As busy as I am with work and all, it's actually something I can manage to plan for since I travel so much.

There's nothing stopping you from adding AA to your steam games library so that your clan or group of steam friends will know that you're playing AA

Miscellaneous / Re: 'Foreign Power' Behind Explosion at Iran Nuclear Facility
« on: Friday, October 24, 2014, 04:34:43 AM »
https://www.google.com/search?q=explosion+Parchin&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=Palemoon:en-US googled for explosion and Parchin (the site).  I'm not sure why it's not in the major news.  New York Times and BBC had a piece.   There's satellite photos that show something happened.  It's a 'secret' Iranian site that everyone knows about, the Iranians aren't going to complain or admit an accident.  The Israelies aren't admitting to it if they did it.  Assassinations of nuclear scientists go on there all the time.  No radiation leakage that we know of.  Not much to be said where there's no proof.

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: mapvote
« on: Sunday, October 12, 2014, 10:34:46 AM »
mapvote updated to 1.2 for Assist 8.15 to just use keywords mapvote and maplist by default.
If you want them to be something different, use the following mapvote.ini file in your  System\Server folder:
Code: [Select]
[mapvote.main]
; How often to spam "Say !mapvote..." in the console.  Doesn't display during a vote.  Default is 60 without this .ini
AdvertiseSecs=60

[mapvote.mapvote]
; Maximum times a player can ask for a mapvote.  Set to 0 to disable.  0 is default without this .ini
MaxVoteStarts=0
; Colors: 0=white 1=yellow 2=green 3=dark blue 4=cyan 5=purple 6=light blue 7=pink 8=magenta 9=red
; personal message, map list...ect.  Default is 8 without this .ini
MsgColor1=8
; broadcast, asked for a mapvote, mapvote running... ect.  Default is 1 without this .ini
MsgColor2=1
; mapvote command.  Default is "mapvote"
Command1=mapvote
; mission list command.  Default is "maplist"
Command2=maplist
You'll need to wait on Eliz to release v8.15

If the user enables it in the 25Assist Client settings, the sound "Get In Position" will be played at the end of each round

How is this enabled in the aa25.ini (linux server owner)?

AFAIK mapvote.u didn't get distributed to linux servers.  You can download it
here
or with full instructions and optional config example here

Assist Support / Mouse button as action key
« on: Wednesday, September 03, 2014, 01:38:27 AM »
I've always had mouse5 set as an action key.  Recently, for objects that you have to hold it down for, it doesn't activate the objective status bar.  For example, in pipeline, turning the valve (turns the valve), but the green meter bar doesn't come up.  Nor for the computer objective.  Setting the 'action' key back to a keyboard binding works ok.  For mouse, it does not.  I recently changed the mouse, so it might be the mouse but I thought I'd run it by here since you guys are always shutting down macros and such to see if maybe that was it.

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Shoutbox content
« on: Saturday, August 30, 2014, 01:36:36 AM »
For starters, the FORUM button in the HELP section on the Assist client probably should point to http://aao25.com/forum/assist-support/
From there they can find the other forums if needed.

If there can be a forum group associated with having permissions to post to the shoutbox, moderation can be accomplished by taking their posting priv (from shoutbox) away if it violates the rules.  You wouldn't need to moderate each post, just repeat offenders.  I dunno how that would work since it's a BT account and not an aao25.com account

Feedback & Suggestions / Shoutbox content
« on: Friday, August 29, 2014, 21:33:53 PM »
I'm guessing the purpose of having the website shoutbox in the Assist client was to foster community.  But the same content on the website on the Assist client seems to be full of drama and whiny people.  Drama and complaints probably shouldn't be on the Assist client.  It gives a false impression of our community.  Well, maybe not a false one...
But it is full of useless reading because now we've made it easier for trolls and people needing support to just use the shoutbox rather than come on here and make a post.  I'm not sure what a solution would be other than to remove it, because the alternative would be to moderate it, which would be difficult to do.  Or, leave it like it is, giving new players the impression that what's left of the community is not worth considering the game.  Many people come to play the game to get away from drama.

Assist Support / Re: Changing your player name through Assist causes problems

You mean use the change name button to link to bt instead of form submit?  Sounds safer, if in fact BT is assuming blank values for clan stuff

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Android Application
« on: Wednesday, August 27, 2014, 02:39:10 AM »
Yep.  The urge to make everything an app really bloats your tablet/phone when most things can be accomplished in html.  Doesn't have to be really mobile format these days either, as most mobile browsers handle 'desktop' browsing adequately anyways, although this site looks different in webkit, firefox and chrome.  So ideally maybe optimize the landing page after login to show everything relevant for both desktops and mobile browsers. The trick is getting things to look nice in a narrow pixel width that might be 720 or so for mobile browsers in vertical mode.
Currently it looks like this in chrome:
which doesn't look useable.  I think that lands squarely on the news page.
My 2 cents:
Maybe the forum page should be the default  page again.  Things I look for when I get here is:  Last few posts with a link to read unread posts, the shoutbox, personal messages waiting.  Maybe add the top few populated servers but I don't think that's what people really want to see when they look at this on a phone or tablet.  Maybe add BT stats.
