News / Army Combat Uniform (Digital Camo)
« on: Tuesday, August 20, 2013, 19:27:41 PM »
The time has come to test the ACU that ELiZ has been working on. For those that don't know, 2.8.5 has ACU (Digital Camo) clothing and models for players. 2.5 Uses the old forest style BDU camouflage blobs. ELiZ has ported this feature and it needs testing before further work is done.

There is now a 32-slot dedicated US-based server hosting this beta version.

This version of Assist also re-implements the feature that caused Critical Errors with the SAI, hopefully with permanent fixes this time. The feature was dead player icons.

News / Forum Relocation
« on: Monday, August 19, 2013, 15:34:58 PM »
We have moved AAO25.com to a new server, hosted by Smoke at http://LowPingServers.com

There are a few reasons for this move including broken cron jobs (the stat modules at the top of the site) and custom server configurations that allow us to query servers for information. This is useful for the server list at http://natescomp.com/list (which will be moved over shortly) and it would be good if we ever decide to build our own tracker or wish to have advanced server stats.

This last unexpected downtime cost us data loss, luckily I had a backup of the site from last night otherwise it would have been 4 days of data loss. Now, on LPS we will have minimum daily backups for the entire site streamed to other servers for redundancy.

I want to thank Pegasus for hosting the site as long as he did. It certainly took a load off of the donations and made sure that the Assist server was paid for and stayed running.

News / SAI & AntiPoke InteractionMaster Critical Errors
« on: Sunday, August 18, 2013, 23:12:13 PM »
These crashes should now be solved in the current release of AntiPoke. If you or anyone you know crashes, please post an ArmyOps.log and full Critical Error message. All servers should be updated, if yours isn't try restarting it. Same goes for clients.

General Chat / Ladies & Gentleman, We got one of the bugs...
« on: Sunday, August 18, 2013, 19:09:19 PM »
Code: [Select]
08/18/13 16:24:56 ScriptLog: Calling Function : private protected final Function SetFOV()
08/18/13 16:24:56 Critical: UObject::ProcessEvent
08/18/13 16:24:56 Critical: (InteractionMaster Package.InteractionMaster,
Function Engine.InteractionMaster.Process_PostRender)

Widescreen FOV function is causing all the problems for SAI-related crashes.

A fix will be pushed soon. Blow up some balloons and get out the vodka, let's party.

*EDIT*
Little bit too soon, there's other problems in the code. More testing, yay!

General Chat / SAI v0.20 Update (CE Fix Attempt) *UPDATED AGAIN*
« on: Sunday, August 18, 2013, 14:45:48 PM »
Jonny has just pushed a new SAI version to clients and servers, version 0.18 internally. This version includes some fixes from James (-SmoKe^) as well as ELiZ to make functions more efficient and hopefully reduce or eliminate Critical Errors.

Please use this thread for any InteractionMaster Critical Errors you receive. Also upload a copy of your ArmyOps.log to http://pastebin.com and post it here. Any description of your hardware, resolution and details of what was going on in-game would be helpful too.

v0.19 released with debugging info. Everybody restart your Assist client to download the new AP.

mAAp Project / [XBOX] AA: Rise of a Soldier
« on: Friday, August 16, 2013, 03:48:34 AM »
Earlier today Possessed sent me a download link for the XBOX ISO of the America's Army Rise of a Soldier game. I downloaded it and while it looks like most of the maps have at least the same name, I think it would be worthwhile to peek at the assets some more. I recall seeing screenshots of slightly different map versions, for one, Bridge had falling snow.

This is where ELiZ comes in; since you decoded 2.8.5, this should be somewhat easier since the devs didn't necessarily have to worry about UScript or injected hacks. I've uploaded the maps, textures and meshes into the mAAp Dev Folder on dropbox called AARS XBOX.7z. If you get some time ELiZ, you know, between working on building your business and working on digital camo and all the other things you're doing here, it might be pretty cool. I know that if nothing else, there's AI code on there but I didn't upload that.

This may or may not be a help but it looks like there was a console-only UT game and from the looks of this thread:
http://forums.epicgames.com/archive/index.php/t-714425.html
People ripped the maps and mods for use in UT2004.

Also, this is a public thread and not a PM because if there is progress, it'd be nice to share it with users :)

mAAp Project / [mAAp] Pipeline - Maintenance Tunnels
« on: Friday, August 16, 2013, 00:21:43 AM »
The maintenance tunnels on mAAp PIpeline have red lights that you can turn on/off. They're dynamic lights and it adds something unique to the gameplay. However, they bother me. They don't look that great and while the tunnels are creepy, it's mostly because they're dark. I want it stressed and to do that you need shadows and brilliant textures and I just can't get that with dynamic lights. It's the reason the bathroom lights can't be turned on/off anymore. It looks so much better.

So, what I'm asking is, what does the community like?

This:

Or this:

Should the lights down there be a specific color/hue? Should there be a lot of light or spots of light with fixtures spread out?

General Chat / Just a year ago...
« on: Wednesday, August 14, 2013, 00:31:27 AM »
So much stuff has gone through AAO25 and Assist, so much drama, so much bullshit, so many things changing. I got bored and decided to go through my PM's to find some information and wow, us admins had a lot of chat and I forgot about a fair bit of it. Frankly, I forgot why Pit left here a while back but realize it was mostly due to my actions. I didn't realize as well that I had offended and confused the other admins when I raged and took over SourceForge and trolled this forum. A lot of shit went down around that time.

So, what is this post about? It's about 2 things really, the first of which is an apology since I never formally made one. I'm sorry to the admins and users of this forum for my actions last year. It created an environment that was less than ideal and added drama when it really wasn't needed. I can't help but feel that I'm at least partially responsible for souring Pit's attitude towards the game and it's players and because of that, this apology is extended to Pit as well.

That brings me to the second point of this thread; Pit. A lot of shit got stirred up lately when Jonny decided to unban him. Without a doubt, it's a controversial decision but going through my PM's was like stepping back in time to when things were different. Some of you may not know or may have forgotten that Pit kept this project going at one time. Frankly, he deserves to be thanked for that, just as ELiZ and Sergio should be. Pit got a lot of shit back in the day for banning players without evidence and several of them were valid, we just didn't have a way to provide proof. Below are some PMs from Pit that I think all of us admins should think about. It comes from a time when he was leader and when he went through the frustrations of contributing to this project. When you try to do something you feel is right for the project but the users just complain. Seeing Jonny's training and ELiZ's SAI threads, I feel these PMs is appropriate:

Yeah, I'm quite nervous, but at the same time I think I can stay distanced from all this. I'm pretty sure that it all doesn't matter so much. Truth is, that the forum community is just a small part of the total AA community, and no dramas on earth can stop people from playing.

I see you don't share my opinion in this case. I also don't like another drama that will explode. But I thought it over few times after my emotions went down, and I still claim all the facts back my conclusion.

Of course people will come and yell. But they always do in such cases. They simply never accepted my person as the project maintainer (cause it become by acccident), and they disagree to every controversial decision I make. The problem is, this environment simply calls for some controversial decisions from time to time. I can't let someone's yelling affect my reasoning. I have a brain and I'm not afraid to use it.

I'm banning this account: Player^Name, for exploiting of a server (not incidential, but 3 times).

Another thing: like many others, I'm also fed up with the crap talk flooding the forum all over the place. This forum looks like junk. I'm going to pay more attention into moderating.

I prefer this forum staying empty, than what is is today. GTFOKTHXBYE rule is now on.

Seeing this PM made me even more assured that unbanning Pit was the right move. He is a good guy and like all of us, got burned by AA's users and our own passion for the game. We are all passionate about this game, even to the point of putting all our effort into contributing something and it's understandable that when it's not well-received or people complain about it, it's a bit easy to go off the deep end. You just have to ignore the odd naysayer and keep doing what you feel is right. This project is built from a community and any one of us couldn't do it alone.

Warning: This thread is NOT about the discussion of Pit's unban. That is a closed matter. Any posts arguing about that matter will be deleted.

News / SAI is released!
« on: Sunday, August 11, 2013, 17:41:10 PM »
The new update from Assist today introduces the 2.8-style SAI into America's Army 2.5. The SAI has most of the features that were available in 2.8 plus a few that didn't exist such as scaling, transparency and locations. Try it out and let us know if you run into any problems by posting in this thread:

General Chat / AAO25 Info Page
« on: Sunday, August 11, 2013, 17:33:47 PM »
For well over a year, various information on the Info page on this site has been outdated or broken. I'm in the process now of fixing and cleaning things up as well as adding new content. BlueBlaster authored a page a couple years ago for a Getting Started tutorial on the AA25.org site. I want to centralize things as much as possible so I copied the page here, edited it and updated some things. I will soon add a SAI tutorial to it as well. The point of this thread is to find feedback from users to make it more understandable and add the information/tutorials you want.

Check it out:

News / Regarding Pit-23
« on: Sunday, August 11, 2013, 15:53:59 PM »
I am getting tired of seeing people argue over this situation. It was a decision by Jonny and that decision is final. We do respect users opinions but only when we ask for them. Some decisions for the project are made that may not be popular but time will tell if they are right. There is nothing more to say about Pit. Because of this, I will issue a warning to anyone with an offensive signature and I will trash any new threads that are not created by Jonny or Pit himself.

You may not agree with this decision and you are free to do what you wish on your servers but please respect this decision and let time tell if it is the right choice.

Hell, mAAp pipeline is just a remake of pipeline, how can it be less realistic?

Must be the BF3 lens dust/flare...
