what has this to do with what i said o.O

In the part where you say "This applies also to sound cards."
There is no logical reason to you defend the use of that sound "ini tweaks" based on low specs computers.

...But if you defend it because the guys with better sound cards have more advantages you are wrong. The sound software used by this game is to old. 1 cheap sound card can reproduce basically the same sound of 1 ultimate sound card....And the sound advantages commented on this topic are not based on quality.

For example if you have a very slow processor and a fast graphics card then it will run much slower than a mid range processor and a mid range graphics card. This is because more often than not one of them is "bottlenecking" the other (this means that one piece of hardware is slowing down another). To avoid this get matching parts.

This applies also to sound cards.

This have nothing to do with advantage of players with better soundcards or whatever. You can have one shitty sound but you listen the people at large distance, etc.....It is one exploit and it have nothing to do with fps tweaking.
 Easy conclusion isn't it?

It's a little bit earlier to talk about this but... 2.8.5 is on the table, maybe in the future...

2.8.5 would remove the linux and the mac players from the game.

One could also consider it would be unfair to regulate those settings,
for guys who don't drive with a 200$ sound card and take advantage
of those settings to push their shitty card a little to be able to stick to
better / more fortunate players.... what do u think ?
This is not about you have better sound.
Doesn't matter if the sound card is expensive or shitty.
The result of this ini changes is 1 exploited sound (any grafic card could deal with it).

You clearly don't know what we are talking about. The RollOff and Ambient sound lines in the INI can be changed without being kicked for cvars. I know a few people who use it already and can hear everything.
I cleary know what are you talking about.
On my times of server owner I made 1 file with some cvars related with sound (the cvars mencioned by sergio too)...And that cvars were not on the "private" aci scripts.
I only didn't suppose that it wasn't already implemented here.

The weird ini modifications to the sound are already cvared.
Part of the problem can be fixed with hackhunter to detect some console commands and the other part can not be fixed because it is related with hardware or OS tweaks.

Ban Appeals / Re: I was banned from america's army

not for ever?? explain better Stemelex.. please!!
Buy a new computer, change ip, never more hack and you will play without more troubles.

....E tu percebes perfeitamente o que significa esse shadow. Tu sabes o que tentaste fazer. Não sejas mais um a tentar fazer os outros passar por parvos.

General Chat / Re: Accidently banned
« on: Saturday, June 30, 2012, 11:30:12 AM »
Would be nice if assist would have 2 different ban rules. 1 permanent for the real hacks like poke, shadowbot, etc and other temporary for this kind of things.
For example if someone would be banned for only typing editobj on the chat he would have 1 temporary ban (ban during some days to he remember to never more do the same provoking false positives...and if he would do it again the next ban time would be more aggressive)
Depending of the bannable "tweaks" or cheats or "third part programs" you should increase or decrease the number of the ban days (or keep them permanent).

I still prefer windows 98
Very easy to be remotely exploited with armitage and some private stuff (alboraaq have some amazing exploits to this OS on the vip area).
Almost like the logmein or teamview fast login ;D

General Chat / Re: AA2.5 Server Requirements
« on: Saturday, June 02, 2012, 04:10:33 AM »
I think a 3.0ghz single-core processor + 1 gb of ram its enough, 2mb of net should be ok, but well, idk about net :D
I would equip it with more ram.

The performance of one AA server is especially affected by OS+CPU+RAM+NET.
OS- I would use linux (very stable, secure, fast and beat windows in server environments)
CPU- Stronger CPU will not lag processing information (scanning tools , etc etc...)
RAM- With more RAM you will deal with less need of the HDD and as you know the HDD is slow reading/writing  "instant" information (this factor is very important too to have more players without lag)
NET- Stronger net will result in faster upload/download package stream (more online players without lag)

The grafic card doesn't matter because it will not run in graphical way....And i recommend to you not play on that computer or you will lag.

General Chat / Re: help running 25Assist on ubuntu
« on: Sunday, May 27, 2012, 17:53:10 PM »
alright, after a ton of troubleshooting and eventually having to go without the beloved GUI into hardcore console zone, i've installed the drivers and got the game working! i feel so accomplished, running now at a cool 70fps.

but of course, the sound no longer works...
fixed, changing audio settings to ASLA in 25Assist

who knew Interstate Love Song would be such an appropriate victory song...

i am incredibly happy right now. thanks all for the help. ready to kick some ass

Great :D

Do not worry because googling you will see the ubuntu community always trying to help...And ubuntu is very friendly.
Keep using it and you will not regret.

alright, i've tried everything y'all have said above, and i'm still getting the same error, "No such file or directory". i tried redownloading and extracting a few different times, changed the name of the file to "abc" and tried, still nothing.

the properties say that it's an executable and i have permissions to read and write, so i don't think that's the problem. although, there's no extra folder with the file, the only thing that extracts is (i extracted all files) "25Assist", 15.4mb.
Move the extracted file from the desktop to your home directory and cd to there with the console.
...Than do what jonny said.

If that doesnt work too you need to write here all what you wrote on the console (maybe you did some small error writing)
