The common causes for this are:
1. Using a VPN. Some VPNs will route traffic differently based on the destination. So the packets going straight to the authentication server may be going straight there whereas the ones going to the server may be going through the VPN server (or the other way around). Disabling any VPN will fix this if this is the case.
2. Using multiple internet connections at once. This shouldn't really happen, but if you're connected both to WiFi and over the cable, it may be that the connection to the auth server went through the WiFi (e.g to a hotspot) and the rest is going through the ethernet cable to the router. Make sure you're only connected to one internet source at a time.
If one of those is not the culprit, then I'm not fully sure.
