General Chat / Re: Merging Normal & mAAp Modes
« on: Monday, January 23, 2012, 04:27:13 AM »
This is not narrow minded at all, but maybe your not explaining your reason's or the changes clear enough for us.

Simply there is no need to change based on your arguments.

I don't play bridge or pipe and I don't Bitch either you asked for comments and that's what your getting, try taking them on board so all parties can be happy.

We do not want the Game play to change and this is exactually the Narrow mindless that lead to AA3 failing, if you go ahead and changes things and this happens I will stop playing after 7 years im sure with allot of others.  It also begs the Reason why you don't look at doing the same for the latest version on V2.8.5.  Personally I think AA2.6 / 2.7 was the best version but I also like the SAI of 2.8.x.

Sorry, I was the one that got bitchy and irate. For me (and I know Jonny felt this in the past as well), I'll have what I think are good ideas with good intentions, I'll make a post about them and someone comes along and pretty much insults my ideas. I realize I/we can't please everybody. So, let me explain what the immediate benefits of initial merging would be:

No more moving mAAp/Normal files before starting the game, No duplicates of files (T_UI2 is an example), Trimmed down files (solely for the purpose of re-downloading), Same PB configs, Ability to improve maps (lighting, FPS, fixing any glitches, possible physics).

That's just off the top of my head. You mentioned "look at doing the same for latest version", what do you mean by that? Do you mean adding/ripping features from 2.8?

I support you could click on the map image and have it open another window where it downloads the image from the web server.

There you go.

Ok. But you could basicly use simple image file as well?

I could but it wouldn't look as good.

I guess the image is ready now, haha.

I'm also interested in making one image, just for fun maybe. Something more simple. What are the requirements for this image file?

It's actually not an image I'm using. It's a 3D map, just like all the other maps;

I can place any object in the box but I'm trying to keep it small for faster loading.

Unstickied this post since it's in the readme which is also a sticky.

I am an admin, on these forums :) I just make mAAp maps. Jonny made Assist by himself. I can't speak for him but I doubt he would want to spend the time setting up a match site and managing stuff that goes along with it. I think Jared's the only one that's actually putting fourth effort to create something like this. See here:

both of u are right.
if u where not qualified for the marksmen slot you where issued an m16 on deployment, how ever if ingame u picked up either of the marksman rifles your scope sway had a hefty bonus amount added to it (being unqualified)

That makes sense, cuz, what do you do with a dropped weapon. I would be curious to look at the code though.

Oh, well, I'll let someone else comment on that. I think Jared was making something like that. I just play for fun so I don't know anything about this kinda stuff. I'm still not sure what pubbing is either.

are u guys thinking about turning this assist more serious? I'm talking about perhaps some real competition?

Real competition? Like allowing another group of guys to develop a competing program that does the same thing?

General Chat / Map Images
« on: Sunday, January 22, 2012, 20:42:42 PM »
Jonny, maybe for the mAAp 7 release, we could do new map images for all the maps? I just forced anti-aliasing in my drivers so I can take some real good shots. Would be cool to have the ability to click on the map image (after clicking on a server in Assist) to have a popup of the 720p version of the screenshot.

No problem I appreciate the opportunity to play at all. :)
I like a couple of the mAAP's that I've played, although I hope they come out with some long range ones as well.

I like hunting more than run and gunning...hehe

Feel free to give suggestions on how maps can be improved. You can also submit ideas or even submit 2.8 maps to be converted to 2.5 :)

mAAp Project / Re: Karma (Physics) Mod
« on: Sunday, January 22, 2012, 17:43:26 PM »
I'm finding out that part of the problem with this mod is (you guessed it) the engine. UT2004 was built on UE2, AA is UE2.5 which is build 3336 in UE. We're using build 2226 of UE Runtime to compile mods. Also, the AA editor we have is UE2.1. 3 different engine versions trying to create compatible stuff... gets things more complicated. But, I haven't heard from VendorX that it's "impossible".

1280x720, it's what I switch to for all my YouTube videos. But, it's like that in 1680x1050 as well.

Every server on our system is a mAAp server, an admin just needs to change the map.

Yea, I get what you mean. Looking at the list, there's only 4 mAAp servers out of 37 and one is mine. I want to advertise mAAp and make people wonder what it is and want to try it out.

*EDIT*
Also, my server is the only one out of 6 US servers that is hosting mAAp.
