Deafening wind in Sandstorm
« on: Thursday, June 21, 2012, 16:41:11 PM »
Do you guys think it would be a good idea to turn down the wind a bit in sandstorm? Not enough to the point where sound whores will be able to know every time you scratch a grain of sand out of your ass but enough so it doesnt make your ears bleed every time you play it?
I need teepee for my bunghole!

my sound is not tweaked! I just have no bass and a whole lot of treble in my headphones and i also play my sound through a stereo cranked all the way up. Tends to get a bit loud up in her.

If you turn wind down then your would hear anything on that map since there aren't other sounds. Its good as it is :)

This right here is why people need to experience quality audio reproduction. Sounds don't hurt on quality components (unless you crank the volume up to "patent pending"). It's the bloated treble that's hurting your ears. On a balanced system, the sounds on Sandstorm and Shipment are balanced well with weapon noise and footsteps. None hurt and you can hear everything.

Trust me being a musician (sort of) i realize this. On the other hand I like to get kills every once in a while and to do that I have to turn my shit way the hell up so i can hear people. Otherwise you dont stand a chance in this game.

Depending on your headphones, I would be leaning to blame them more than the volume knob. Most headphones (and all headsets unless you go for a $500 pair of aviation ones) won't have good sound reproduction, especially bass, so that makes the treble bloated. Combine that with sibilence, you'll get pain. I would be happy to recommend some equipment in any budget if you want to get out of the $20 headsets and gamer products.

Very good value for the dollar. I believe that's the pair that mans has, I'm sure he'll comment on them. I haven't personally tried them but the reviews look fantastic. I would definitely consider these if I was going to get another pair of headphones.

The ATH-AD700 from Audio Technica are the shit! I went from HD555's to these and I could tell a huge difference. These headphones and the right XFI and settings you can pretty much hear everything in game.

Your sentence looked good up until this part. An X-Fi will bottleneck these headphones and you won't get to hear them for what they're really worth.

I solely bought them for gaming. I know this will upset you but I'm not looking for quality but quantity in the sounds I can hear. Even with the XFI these headphones sound really good. The difference with these headphones from other gaming headphones is the bass. The bass is amazing with these things.

It's actually not great bass on those, it's that they're reproducing sounds more accurately. Gaming products aren't meant for quality, they're meant for weird plastic designs and lights. One thing a lot of people don't understand is that with gaming audio, you're never going to hear as much as you would with a decent non-gaming setup. Reproduce the sound accurately and you'll hear things better.
