VSync
« on: Wednesday, February 08, 2012, 18:37:21 PM »
Jonny, can we get VSync enabled by default? Every time I'm in-game and am reminded of it via horrible tearing, I can't access the settings so I say "I'll do it later" but never do. IMO, there's no reason not to have VSync enabled by default but there will be a big discussion about it following this post I imagine.

I say leave it be, if people are on low end machines they will suffer from performance issues.? Right?

I don't see how it would cause performance issues. On Pipeline, my FPS will dip below 60 and with VSync on, nothing happens. I mean, I've seen people complain that VSync will lock them down to 30fps if their computer can't maintain 60 but I have never ever seen this happen on any game and I always have VSync enabled.

I usually dont enable vsync cos I need 60-120fps on all my games

Hard to see all those extra frames as they sit un-used in your GPU's output buffer.

I heard Skrewy plays with a 120Hz refresh rate.

I heard Chuck Norris makes his setup run at 480Hz.

haha!

Well Vsync makes my laptop to even lag more.

But on my desktop I use it on since AA runs well on my desktop...

I have always had troubles with AA performance.~I always played it on max settings since the first time, back in 2003 or 2004... I had the ATI 9600XT. It runned well, but sometimes it just had a huge fps drop.

And all I could see is that if I used low settings, it happend the same, so the settings didn't really affected much my performance. Also I had the shadow bugs, which I could see all enemies from walls :)

Then I bought the X1800GTO which is a lot more powerfull, but same problem as before... Though If I remember well on AA2.6 it started to really work smooth.

Why do you constantly admit to hacking and act like you're cool for it? All you're doing is giving me more reasons to dislike you. It's annoying when people that ruin games brag about it.

Enabling full shadows allows you to see the enemy's shadow near walls or sometimes through. You misunderstood, Killa.

I think.

The shadows poking thru walls bug is really a map design flaw 90% of the time. It's because the walls are too thin and so when player shadows are projected, a lot of times they go thru the wall to the other side. Sometimes this is un-avoidable, but most of the time the solution is to just make thicker walls haha.

Sorry, I should never have talked about that, it was kiddy..., but it was just a point of view to say that 2.5 UC is pretty much alive, and old people all used to know how to hack with uc...

Well about the shadows, I always had problem with that on my computer, it happend to ATI9600XT and to X1800GTO, and the worst is that if I shoot some door, it would become all black and it killed like 20fps or so. I think they fixed that either with AA2.6 or with the latest ATI drivers back then.

ps: They knew about the problem, so since AA2.6 the shadows were always disabled in every official server!

If you shoot a door and it becomes all black, it means the game engine renders decals (aka projectors) in a way that the graphics card doesn't like. A lot of times, the way a game engine does stuff, graphics cards don't all interpret it the same way. Unreal Engine usually works very well on Nvidia cards. Thats just the way it is.

But those are old problems and should all be fixed by now with driver updates.

Now back to the topic of Vsync........if a user has an actual graphics card and has drivers installed from their manufacturer, then vsync is never a problem. Never ever a problem.
