PC problems
« on: Sunday, December 07, 2014, 00:25:56 AM »
my computer is running way slower than usual.  It started about 2 weeks ago and I have no idea why.  It is also affecting my AA gameplay.  I have a low ping but am still having some lag that makes the game unplayable.  I have ran multiple virus scans and they all have said everything is fine. please help

Cleaning your computer is always a good idea if you haven't done it in a couple of months.
Cleaning can have a significant effect on the cooling of a computer.

I'm guessing you have a tabletop PC?
I make that assumption because laptops are harder to clean ;)

EDIT: I read on the shoutbox that you do in fact have a laptop. The easiest thing to clean on a laptop is the fan with compressed air. Other than that, Spanky can probably help :)
I'm also guessing your computer can handle AA without a problem on normal days (spec wise).

Antother thing I would suggest is to use task manager to see what kind of processes are running and how much cpu and memory they are consuming. If you find something that's consuming a lot of resoursces but you don't know what it is, it's best to google it to find out. If you found out you don't need it, you can stop the process. However it would be best to remove the underlying cause, that is the program that starts that process, from your computer as well.

@BraVe: Post your dxdiag.log

BTW: Cleaning hardware is a good idea when you haven't done it in a couple of years, but dust has nothing to do with the significant drop in performance.
Monthly: is a good practice to do stuff like removing unnecessary programs, disk clean-up and defrag (in exactly this order).

Well nowadays, people rarely keep a computer for a couple of years.
Besides, I've had a lot of trouble with my laptop's fan and cleaning it with compressed air has always helped.
And dust can have a significant impact. It rarely does, but if you've got enough of it in your cooling system, hot air doesn't get out and your system overheats instantly. I know, I've had this problem.

But in genearl, you're probably right :)

I also think cleaning the fans helps a lot - my pc was also bloody loud and after cleaning the fan it's running smooth and pretty silent again. I just used the hoover lol

Formatting your PC from time to time can also make a big difference - cause over the years there is so much junk on your pc that you don't have any control of.

I do that like every six months

It must be your computer or isp - I don't think it has anything to do with the Assist
This could have plenty reasons - get someone you know who is good with computers to help you man.
Don't think this can be solved here

Well nowadays, people rarely keep a computer for a couple of years.
Lapsus linguae ... I had in mind: 'if you haven't done this for a year'
... may be more often - it depends on how clean your house is, I suppose (no offence).
Anyways, every year I'm upgrading my PC and doing general cleaning, so I can't really tell what happens to a few years old hardware.
... In addition, I use water cooling and never had the same PC or laptop more than two years.

thats just my specs. i have been able to run the game before with no problems
This is exactly what we need to know to be able to help you. So give us this dxdiag.log
