When American English was standardized in textbooks, the authors wanted the language to be simpler and adhere more to the common man. Also Americans hated Britain so they took whatever chance to change the language.

You open the console and type afc (afc stands for Admin Force Class). This will then give you a weapon code to put after the command. For example, to force class an RPG would be afc rpg, an M4/SF is afc sf, etc. Everything else like to change the round time, change the map, ban/kick people, you'd press F12 for the admin panel. :)
