General Chat / Re: America's Army 2 Remake - Army Ops in development
« on: Monday, January 01, 2018, 11:32:42 AM »
Sounds very good.
I would just request the feature that there is no crosshair - at all! Not even a dot! As if one always has a sniper in hand, because a crosshair is not realistic, a soldier can never keep aim in a certain area.
Additionally if possible make the aim, when not aiming through sight, to not necessarily be in the centre, there needs to be a dispersion area. This will prevent people shooting without aiming through sight, as in reality, shooting without aim is highly inaccurate - the way it's supposed to be ;)

Good luck!

Support / [MAC] Resolution Problems (post Wine bug)
« on: Monday, January 01, 2018, 11:11:54 AM »
I have a 13" MacBook Pro Retina and I would like to play at 1680x1050 resolution, but for some reason the setting is overwritten by something in Armyops.ini to make it 1650x1050 while the Setting tab continues to show 1680x1050! It appears that the image is actually cut on the sides when displayed. This didn't happen before, until I had to fix the WINE bug with Mac to 'disable auto detection of GPU'. https://photos.app.goo.gl/77pBjk36RkQxrhKC2

Another issue is that when I switch to another app, while AA is in background (like when I die), and then return to AA the Full Screen is cut to the right side, perhaps this is related to the resolution issue - again this wan't the case until the WINE bug.
(see my desktop background to the right) https://photos.app.goo.gl/liVUf14rEeagqMDm2

Additional Info:
 - the game works perfect if I play at Mac's default resolution of 1440x900, everything is perfect.
 - the Mac's actual native screen res is 2560x1440 but Apple scales it down for UI

Can anyone help me out pls?

The Lounge / Re: Anyone else miss the way things used to be?
« on: Monday, October 03, 2016, 19:40:34 PM »
Just decided to drop by and leave my opinion.

I don't exactly know in which version I started, but I believe it was around 2005 and it was literally god sent - I'll explain...

The only computers we had in our household were Macs and while these computers were elegant and awesome, they had barely any games written for them. So when a friend of ours showed me this Free, Multiplayer, FPS with MAC compatibility I was totally blown away! Just like all the other kids spent days playing AA since it was literally the only game I could play, but I still loved it, especially due to realism and a more tactical approach rather than the reflex fast Counter Strike :style:

When the servers were shut down I was totally heartbroken and moreover AA3 totally lost the great concept of the game

A few years ago I somehow discovered Assist, but it's not the same anymore - not entirely sure why, maybe we just got too old for sheeet?
Or maybe the fun was in discovering something new, whereas now everyone here is a veteran and knows the drill, but back in the days everything was new.
I don't know if there was much ghosting back in the day (don't think Skype existed yet), but it was quite fun scanning cameras of main viewpoints and looking at enemy position - something which Assist denies, perhaps it's fair but still :P

Dunno, maybe it's just me, but even most modern games don't appeal to me much anymore, they all look like poorly redrawn copies and no originality.
Ah I miss the Golden Age (2000-2010) with America's Army, Need for Speed, Grand Theft Auto, Ronaldinho, the world seemed more peaceful and at least I wasn't bothered much about the future...

General Chat / Tips for better K/D?
« on: Thursday, August 14, 2014, 17:54:57 PM »
I look at many other players' K/D ratio and can't help to notice that they are usually >1. Mine on the other hand is <1 and that is quite annoying.
Does anyone have any tips/tricks/advise on how to play better?  :makemyday:

General Chat / Re: Few Tips/Tricks/Tweaking
« on: Thursday, August 14, 2014, 17:45:48 PM »
So i will post a few of those that i have been using. There is nothing wrong with what i'm posting and the older players should already have them so why not give to the newest also?

Higher FPS:
Type "pb_sleep 500" into the console without the " " for a slight fps boost.
It makes pb only work every 500 miliseconds instead of pb default of every 20 miliseconds.
Most users see 5-15fps boost from using command on most maps. When you type pb_sleep 500, type p_writecfg so you don't have to type pb_sleep 500 everytime you join a server.

Should one still follow these guidelines, even with current version of Assist?

Could anyone also advise me on Sound Settings. I currently have it set to H/W 3D + EAX on a Macbook running in Mac OS. It seams to work fine, so should I change it or not, to another option?

The Lounge / Re: Plane Crash in Ukraine

Its for me clear seperatisten diddent cooperate for 100 %  to led the people from countrys that wanne look for solutions who did it. Seperatisten had control over that part land. Alot privit stuf was already gone wallets ,how you say time (whatses),etz.etz.

I have heard that the OSCE made complaints regarding limited access, damaged and stolen evidence, lack of authority and even drunk rebels. But these accusations so far can only been confirmed by the words from OSCE and news reporters, with no photo or video evidence, that I came across, have been shown to confirm these claims. While they might be truthful, I don't understand how they're a big issue. As many of the bodies have already been transported to their homeland and the black boxes have been sent for an independent examination. As regards the looting that you mentioned, I did see reports mentioning it. The fact is that the rebels aren't your regular army and consist of ordinary people, some on whom may not be moral (which is a sad reality).
You also have to keep in mind that the rebels are fighting a war against  Ukraine's army, so they have can only dedicate a small amount to the site. Ukraine's government was asked numerous times to call a ceasefire, in order to conduct the investigation safely, yet they still decided to continue their ATO (anti terrorist operation) as they call it.
Not to point any fingers, but for some reason Kiev (in Ukraine) appears to be intentionally hiding their air traffic control recordings which could actually provide vital clues. ()

It is deeply upsetting that this conflict has taken with it the lives of the innocent foreign civilians which had nothing to do with the dispute itself, and which could be the cause of someone's political reason.

Also, I just wanted to explain the situation a bit clearer to whomever is interested, than they do in the often biased news. I follow the unrest regularly since combat began in the region of eastern Ukraine, in which I know people and have relatives.
1) Why was the plane flying through a war zone?
Ukraine's air traffic control together with Malaysian airlines agreed on this path to save fuel. It wouldn't have been a bad idea if it wasn't for the fact that Ukraine's military had a plane shot just a few days before, presumably by rebels, who were also believed to have the missile system 'BUK'. So why take such a risk in the first place?
2) Ukraine or Russia?
Many newspapers from the UK claimed that it was the work of Putin on the very first day, before any evidence from an investigation. (http://cs619931.vk.me/v619931145/d55f/Li9p_SlRYMg.jpg) This seams like pure propaganda. The phone conversation which Ukraine's security services provided could be real. But nobody knows yet, as voice recording can be fabricated (they do this all the time in movies). It's also strange the fact that the dialog consists of 3 separate conversations.
3) 'BUK' missile system
While the rebels are believed to be in possession of this vehicle, it is not possible to know if it's in working order or not. Besides it requires another vehicle with a target acquisition radar 'TAR' in order to lock onto the target and the rebels don't have it (no evidence yet). But there could be a possibility that Russia's TAR provided this information, but could still be positioned across the border. Again no undeniable evidence yet, but for one, Ukraine definitely has the entire complex.

There is currently no clear details and it might be some time before the responsible are pinpointed. For now lets just wait until further evidence is discovered and a thorough investigation of this horrific tragedy has been conducted. For future, whatever you do don't listen to one news outlet, follow a variety to get the full picture.

« on: Saturday, April 05, 2014, 04:25:23 AM »
I was trying it on 'SF Hospital', but I think it will be the same all around.
From what I understand Assist was made to run via Wine, instead of Rosetta, but does that actually make any difference? You are still trying to run a virtual system in parallel, which does no good.

Can anyone comment on the performance on an Intel Mac, by referencing their specifications?
After seeing a post that this will work on Intel Mac I decided to try it on my maxed-out 2006 Macbook (integrated GPU), and all I get is 10 FPS, on lowest settings. I agree that I have a rubbish GPU by gaming standards, but this game was playable by most machines back in 2006. So why can't it be the same now?
What kind of FPS are people getting with Macbook Pro's 2010- ?

General Chat / Re: Training !
« on: Wednesday, July 24, 2013, 05:55:09 AM »
Training is a load of crap. I don't want to spend my time passing everything again. It took me ages to hit enough targets out of 40 to do the sniper training (not practising it for hours again). Besides the medic and SF stuff is just a test and you can get answers to the quiz on the web.

Training is pointless by itself, but yes I understand how it will reduce the amount of accounts (but I don't want to pay for it).

Ok, I reinstalled Assist and now everything is fine, bar the fact that when America's Army starts the Windows appearance setting changes... which is a bit irritating.

I am the only user on the PC, and yes I am the administrator.

I deleted the armyops.log but the issue is still there. Also states that Assist now has no writing permissions...

By the way, on launch the programme changes my screen colour settings... I don't want that to happen!

Having problems with the new update also. But for me it kicks me saying that 'armyops.exe is running but it is not running from the 2.5Assist installation, for security reasons this cannot be allowed'.
I tried the reset+repair but no help.
