Hardware/Software / Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
« on: Sunday, December 27, 2009, 14:45:45 PM »
If you've never played Uncharted, I apologize. The original was easily the greatest game I'd ever played, with amazing graphics and a storyline packed with enough action that people would pay to watch it played start to finish. The sequel surpassed it in all ways, making it far ahead of the original (still my second favorite game).

In the original game, you play as Nathan Drake, seeking the treasures of El Dorado with the help of your ancestor Sir Francis Drake's journals.  Now, Drake wants to solve the mystery of Marco Polo's lost fleet, gradually learning of it's connection to the mythical Shambhala and the Cintamani Stone, which grants great power and invincibility. Betrayed by your "friends", you must reach the Stone before they can and destroy it, not allowing the Stone to fall into the wrong hands.

The game was incredible, and just like in the first game Drake could get to anywhere he could see given a few jumps and the use of conveniently-placed rocks or ropes sticking out from a wall.

I give the game a 10/10, similar to the A+, 10/10, 9.5/10, 9.5/10, and 5/5 given by other reviewers.

I’m not 100% certain when it happened. I think it’s when I had Nathan Drake atop a building in a war-torn Nepalese city, cornered and being fired upon by a helicopter, engaged in a fist fight with the screen slowly draining of color, snapping my enemy’s neck and quickly rolling into cover to reload my grenade launcher only to turn and fire upon the chopper one last time as I watched it crash and explode. I think this is when I realized that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was the best single-player game I have ever played.

My sentiments exactly :)

There's so much more I could say, but - like the first game - a twist in the end made me think: "Really? The game was perfect and they throw this into it." Unlike the first game, however, this twist added more to the storyline and the game was still amazing, while the original's twist nearly ruined the game. I'll let you go buy a PS3 and play the game, or there's many videos on youtube if you'd like to see more gameplay.

Told you he deserved Mod  8)

I'd +1 you but that's becoming redundant; great review. I'll have to think about whether to buy a Zune or an iPod to go along with my 16GB iPod Touch that's not nearly big enough for the 55GB of music (and additional movies) I've purchased legally over the past year.

I already bought a game this week though, I'm satisfied. I bought Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee from the PlayStation Store.. $10 was way too high though.

I still respect Crusade. It's hard to lose respect for a guy from one or two of his actions, especially when he already did those things when you originally respected him. (WOW I confused myself writing this. I think you'll understand it though, Dann. It reminded me of something you'd say :D)

I always thought it was a movie version of that one black show on Adult Swim so I never looked into it. I may check it out now.

Haha, I've had people tell me that before when I suggested it to them.

The Boondock Saints is a 1999 crime thriller film written and directed by Troy Duffy. The film stars Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as Catholic Irish American fraternal twins, Conner and Murphy MacManus, who become vigilantes after killing two members of the Russian Mafia in self-defense. After a "message from God", the brothers, together with their friend David Della Rocco, set out to rid their home city of Boston, Massachusetts of crime and evil; all the while being pursued by Special Agent Paul Smecker (Willem Dafoe).

Possibly my favorite movie, definitely my favorite action movie. It was hilarious, action-filled, and had that touch of gore that isn't over-the-top and adds to the movie value. If you're into action movies at all it's a must-watch. I won't go on because I'm not gonna ruin any of it, and if you've seen the second one don't tell me about it because I'm waiting for it to come out on Blu-Ray  :)

Any time, as long as it's on the one map that the demo allows. I remember my PB was f'd up a little last time we played, but I think you helped me fix it then. We'll see I guess haha.

The only games that remain installed on my PC are AssaultCube, the free BF2 demo, Portal, CoD4 (which lags like a mo'fucka'), and Combat Arms and MapleStory, neither of which have been played. The only games I play habitually are Chess Titans and Minesweeper and I haven't found out how to add clan tags yet, but I promise I will when I figure it out.
