Cull the light hazes beyond a distance of 500 or so.
Cull small objects like light figures (especially ones behind coronas and hazes)
Re-jigger the antiportals
Increase the gigahertz

Insanity huh? It's a pity that Mac & Linux users don't get to benefit from RAPID. Glad you got that bad boy in and enjoy modern tech :)

I really wish I got a percentage of every sale. I've probably bought/recommended 2 dozen of the buggers.

But I also liked your previous version. The jungle map. Just look at the effects you made on that map...just amazing. You should re do your work on that map you were based at the start and release another version maap jungle. But overall good job spanky:)
I kind of liked the appeal of that one too but it's just hard to get a really dense and lush jungle in AA. I mean, you have to place, scale and align each shrub/tree by hand. There's a way to "paint" trees on the ground so they're randomly placed but the problem is you can walk through them :) It was just tough for me to get to a point where I was happy with a lush jungle. I'll still have to manually place the dead trees but they should be easier and better for FPS.

well for what i saw i love it.. dont mind the trees its not even a problem... i also like the objectives. my thought is about the choise of weapons to the map.. normal m16s whit 2 snipers. or scope whit red dot.
I think once the layout is done, we can discuss weapon loadouts. For now, I just copy-pasted Urban Assault spawns.

My sugestion is to make that wooden house penetrable.
Like door breachers?

when you get some time, could you make the map name visible at servers browser? also the SAI picture would be nice to be corrected.
I see a server running with it (SWISS's), I don't see an issue. It should be in the tours.ini which will allow you to move a server to it with the F12 control panel.

and maybe a tunnel :D - I would love it, but don't know how much work that would be.
I like the tunnel idea, maybe more of a cellar. Especially with the hill that the house is on.

Install Samsung Magician, set OS Optimization to Maximum Reliability, set Over Provisioning, enable RAPID.

You will be blown away.

RAPID uses the memory as a cache and I have seen read speeds on my latest build of over 3000 mb/s. Granted that's pretty artificial but their software is still awesome.

Then that's really interesting that it took this long for it to take effect. Unless Gamespy kept some services running or replied back with an empty response...

*EDIT*
According to Wikipedia:
Quote
In April 2014, Glu announced that it would shut down the legacy GameSpy servers on May 31, 2014, (server termination was extended until July 16)
That's almost been a month though, maybe the Windows-based AA servers just haven't restarted since then.

Sweet. Thanks for finding a fix so quickly. It was really weird seeing 3/4 of the servers just disappear.

That's really weird that it took 3 months for this to happen.

Someone had said that the remaining servers are Linux-based. Maybe that has something to do with it...

Is it a timeout that happens and it tries again to contact Gamespy?

mAAp Project / mAAp Forest [Beta]
« on: Tuesday, August 12, 2014, 02:14:07 AM »
Some of you may remember a while back, I started a new map called Forest. It was a daytime map then turned into a night map. Long story short, here's the old thread:
http://aao25.com/forum/maap/untitled-forestjungle-map/

The map is now live in Assist. This thread is to serve as a discussion on where to take the map as far as features and layout. There's problems with the map as-is, the trees are crappy and the objectives need tweaking but the basic idea is there. Below is a quick video of the first beta release. Please reply in this thread with any ideas or suggestions for this map.

Good to hear :) Post a screenshot of HDTune's Health tab when you get a chance, that'll let you know what's up.

If you have it hooked up as a slave drive, load up HDTune (I'll PM you a link). See what it says for SMART status. If everything is ok, maybe Windows just shat itself and you can re-install.

At the very least I would take this as an opportunity to get your important stuff on Dropbox if it will fit.

You don't want to copy your entire drive either.

Look, something happened on your hard drive, likely some kind of failure. At this point, you don't even know if the drive's files are still accessible.

If the drive just failed with bad sectors then data got corrupt in your Windows install. If that's the case, you don't want to waste time copying the corruption to another drive.

If there's some other kind of failure that is causing intermittent errors then you still don't want to waste time copying files you don't need (your entire Windows installation).

If there is ANYTHING at all important on the hard drive that you want, quit fucking around. Unplug the bad drive, boot something (fresh Windows install, WinXP on Hiren's Boot CD, whatever) and THEN plug in the drive and copy ONLY the important files off.

I've done this enough to know that the absolute worst thing to do is run the drive unnecessarily.

You might be able to but it would be tedious. The fact is, that really has nothing to do with your bad HDD, that's just the Windows DVD. I really urge you to quit messing around and get a live environment or a fresh install and THEN plug in your drive to copy things over. The longer you run your bad drive, the worse the chances for recovery.
