Background Checks / Re: pit-23 too obvious
« on: Thursday, January 31, 2013, 03:44:33 AM »
in 2.8.5 i used it. I had different settings and programs. You could reduce the sound and smogg in sf sandstorm, bridge crossing, collapsed tunnel .... isn't that advantage ?
so you're still saying programs with it (= nothing to do with ini)

what advantage can you get with ini?

I got my leaning on tab and q, these are also different "ini settings", which are perfectly legal and also changeable in the menu.

All illegal settings are CVARed anyways.

General Chat / Re: ESL Test Cup

tidi already proved for me that his maplist is good he has 28 teams in his league

u cant compare aao with 28 teams and 15$ donators to cs with 300teams and 100000$ sponsors.

if u tell to esl admins that more maps means more teams im sure they ll not have problem with it

but w/e guys do what u think is best i hope u ll succed.

and cmone give some respect to pubbers.....u shud be encouraging em to join competitions even teaching em not shit on their heads anytime u own em...
See, you didnt read what I said, read back why it has 28 teams (exactly, no other leagues to join, people wanted a  league, this is their only option, so they have to play there even if they do not like the full maplist).

And I won't compare the numbers, but how big are the odds that they have never tried the format with more maps which gave them the conclusion less maps in a league is better.
Do you really think they came up with this format and never even thought about changing it or trying other things in all those years their community developped?

And this is not only the case in that game, but in many other games as well.

I do beleive you like the big maplist though ;)

thats what im trying to tell u put to this cup all maps so all teams join.......
you didn't even read did you?

The esl admin already gave the reasoning for this. I already gave a reasoning for this, you will never win this argument because it is evidently proven by other games and in the AA past that a big mappool for 1 cup does not work as well as a cup with a few maps, you can make different cups with different maplists but the other format just is NOT the most attractive one and will NOT be it for ESL because that is not the way they do their leagues.

i dont get u...u want many teams in that cup but ur cuting maps.......maplist in wl was fine try to think why there is 28 teams
The reason there where 28 teams was because there werent other choices for them if they wanted to play.
Cutting maps has been proven in the past and in other competitive games to be better for competition, this is based on experience. Look at CS for example, look at the esports websites and you'll see.

News / Re: AA 25 Winter League - TIME TO START!
« on: Friday, January 04, 2013, 02:45:00 AM »
I remember when the competitive scene was dying in NA some experienced players started casting on e-rev which allowed the game to be noticed by cevo like it was in the past. I really think winter league should utilize this form of advertisement for the game. With that being said, these need to be quality videos with experienced casters who have in game experience.
I agree, but we do need people able to cast/ who have experience with it. I will look into it later.

Ban Appeals / Re: Ban for ServerMOD using?
« on: Tuesday, January 01, 2013, 06:07:07 AM »
As I still see no way that argument of mine being rejected, I still see it as valid.

Furthermore, mods make the playing game harder and easier at the same time: When 203s fly around everywhere it is a lot harder to survive even if you play tactical. For someone forceclassing himself to for example rpg it makes it a lot easier to take cheap kills. Hence you can't say it makes it easier of more difficult, but it makes the skill gap a lot more narrow. For a  new player it's easier to take kills, for a more experienced player it's harder to stay alive, because no matter how good you play, when a spamrpg lands close to you and you are not camping 24/7 in a safe place you will die.

In my opinion those kind of mods destroy the core of the game. The reason AA was different to CoD, BF etc is because of the tactical gameplay instead of the run and gun in for example CoD. And for the CoD fanboys: I have also played CoD competitively so I know that this is way more the case in CoD then in AA.

Such mods just make AA more of an arcade game. A lot of old players who want to come back certainly don't like this. Me neither, so I decided to just only play matches since pub is as boring as it is, only the same 3 maps with non-mods usually... I am quite sure more people had the same feeling, so this does influence the amount of players playing.

so let me just make this clear for myself.

What the people pro mod say:

They don't like playing on oldschool servers all the time because of the self-called (according to them) pro competitive players with tweaked inis. This annoys them because it gives the tweakers an advantage, According to them that is.

BUT

If it's untracked and their stats wont be there, the game will be dead since they will stop playing.

This means they do care for stats a lot, while as far as I know most competitive players couldnt care about it.

If they only want to play for fun, just to shoot around, then why do they want to be tracker per se? Is it the small ego boost which is needed? Is that why they don't like playing against competitive players and why they think it is because of their ini? Is it because otherwise it would contradict their paradigma of them being good and it might hurt their ego? I wonder this when I read all the posts here. I can't think of any good explanation about why tracker is needed per se when they just play for fun to shoot around a bit, it just doesn't make any logic sense for me.

Note: this post is no offense to anyone, I'm just stating that I can not find any reason why that statement would be true based on the other reasons given.

Honestly, this discussion is just useless in my opinion. I couldn't care less about their stats, nor could I care about my own stats. I'll see how well they play in game, that's a better way to judge someone.

There is both pub and competition on aa 2.5 at the moment, every evening you can see locked servers with peopel scrimming and open servers with people pubbing. It might not be as big as it used to be but at least you do have different opponents.

I doubt many people use default keys either, neither do I, and neither do most of the players.

My middle mouse is my push to talk, I'm not going to change Altfire to that.

I have binded my Altfire to a side button on my mouse, but it's plain annoying to change something which has grown as a habit for me.
