I'm serious Koden. I'm not saying Hitler was good or that the holocaust was a blessing. I'm just saying that the core, basic, distilled idea that he started with was a good idea ahead of it's time. Wouldn't it be awesome if we could have less genetic susceptibility to cancer and diseases as a whole population? Healthier and cleaner gene pool. We don't quite have the technology yet (yea, there's 23andme but... eh) but it would be good to allow couples to genetically screen their partners and to see markers that they might pass on to their offspring.

A "healthier" person is not necessarily a better person. Aside of the definition of the normal or "acceptable" level for quality DNA, a person is more than the sum of its genetics (e.g. Stephen Hawking).

P.s. this reminds me of Gattaca btw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gattaca

Seriously, Hitler wanted a healthier Germany. Pure and good bloodlines, culling of the things that make us weak. That's an awesome idea. It's just a shame that we still know very little about genetics (cancer & disease markers) and back then, they knew pretty much nothing. His problem was thinking that Jews beliefs, attitudes and behavior were genetic. If only he realized only the nose was genetic. Like I said, good idea, extremely poor execution.

We, in the United States, actually did it first though. Over 20 states passed laws to sterilize people for bad genetics, basically the first step toward's Hitler's direction. He probably looked at us and thought "that's a damn good idea".

I would pay for a subscription for a quality product if they spent as much time re-thinking their marketing strategy as they do re-building everything in each release of Battlefield.

I think Valve (maybe even Blizzard) and Tripwire with Killing Floor got a similar idea working, updating the game with new content and trying to improve the game itself within time instead of releasing a new game every year. And for that matter (quality) DLC work quite well. As you said, you can't really re-invent the wheel every time while pretending to get the game perfect.

Also, BF2 was one of the best games because it was ahead of it's time and moddable. Sure, EA/Dice can pump out great graphics but they've forgotten about the modding community. Frostbite should allow games to use engine upgrades and allow 3rd party content creation. Of course there's a balance for releasing too many tools but hackers get in one way or another.

They would do so much better to create a series of games (classic (2/3/4), hardline, vintage (vietnam/1942/1943), bad company) and constantly upgrade them then offer a subscription-based marketing strategy. Don't redesign the wheel with BF4, turn BF3 into BF4. Add new features and maps into a game people love. Upgrade the engine and allow 3rd party content kind of like ARMA but better.

I sure as shit won't pay $60-80 for a new game but I'd be pretty content paying $20/year for a subscription. EA would make more money as more people would try the game at $20 rather than $80. They would also make more by keeping games up to date and letting players play the same game for 5+ years.

Why would you pay a subscription for a product like a game from a company like Electronic Arts? They could (and surely) would use the money for nearly everything except developing games in a proper manner. Besides, by now many games are getting sold as "early access" at lower prices.

I still love Novalogic games.

Steve

I didn't know Novalogic is still alive. I might still have a copy of Comanche 4 somewhere at home, awesome sim.

Killa, consumers are stupid :)

EA/DICE needs to fine-tune their games more. You know I'm a perfectionist. I'd love to see them take Frostbite and build a modular game that they constantly update. Don't re-invent the wheel each game. Build something and refine it with community feedback rather than pushing out game after game with full retail pricing and expensive add-ons just to rake in a profit.

But... I'm not a dev, what do I know? :)

I guess they develop games around consoles, which is a common practice. I played L.A. Noire (from Rockstar), the game engine must be similar to the GTA series, the game runs quite horrible on pc and it's even capped at 30fps i believe.

Eletronic Arts must be somewhat desperate or crazy to give away free keys for BF3. Anyway, it's not worth the hype imho. The single player campaign was so useless.

yes, that is true. but we have ELiZ and his tracking system. so let's see what happend. if we are lucky, everything will go on. if not, aa3 and aa4 would have the same impact with bt, so maybe there will be a solution about this all. cross fingers :)

AA3 is nearly dead. Proving Grounds is alive and the launcher has a builtin stats browser (that said, the launcher is still one of the weak parts of the game, its way too buggy).

A disturbed, sick mind. The guy was mentally ill and under therapy since he was 8. I guess they didn't consider him "dangerous" to that point.

Motorcycle FTW but honestly, I think it's wrong to look at the repair being more than the cost of the car. It's not about that, it's about reliability and use. You'll NEVER get the money out of any car you buy for use (not talking about fixing & flipping). If you look at the cost of the repair vs buying a new car that you'll likely have to put money into at some point, it's better to keep what you have as you know exactly what it is.

Just my 2 cents.

There are severe traffic limits for older vehicles here, especially those which are labelled as Euro Zero, those registered before 1993 (mine's dates back 1991), for "pollution" reasons (it sucks of course).

Btw, i just drove a 2005 Toyota Yaris (1st generation), 1.3 petrol. Really well designed and well made. It feels more solid than my parents 2012 Fiat Panda.

Personally I'd say go with a motorcycle since you live in Italy, no more traffic jams for you. I live in The Netherlands and traffic jams are a big problem here, when I am on my bike i can be sure 99% to be on time wherever I want to be.

If you are more a car person who detests motorcycles i'd say go with a french car : Renault Twingo (diesel) these cars are small but tough and are solely made for transporting people.

For a more descent car I'd go with any german car like spankey suggested.

I have a 125cc Honda Pantheon, but now it's sitting because it has some sort of problems when running on idle, i actually have to get it sorted out (might be a dying battery or simply having to adjust the idle).

French cars...honestly i'd rather get a Toyota Yaris. But for one thing: until early 2000 they were made in Japan, after that they started making them in Valenciennes, France ;)

Koden, that's only 100,000 miles on that engine! That's nothing man. We got 2 cars here, one has 150,000 miles and the other is past 225,000 miles. I've seen quite a few people go past 300,000 miles with good maintenance.

That said, I've never seen a FIAT with that many miles :)

The engine repair cost is more than what the car is worth of. These engines can do much more than 100.000 miles but the head gasket is one of the weak points. One of the guys i work with has a Lancia Y (similar chassis to the 90's Fiat Punto) with a 1.2 liter engine that's very similar to mine (except for the fuel injection of course) and he already did almost 250.000km on that one i think (he had to replace the headgasket, along with some other repairs like clutch, radiator, alternator, etc).

I've seen cars with 1 000 000 km (like 620 000 miles I guess).

I knew of this guy who did about 3 millions (!) miles on his Volvo p1800.
