Hardware/Software / TubeMagic A1 Modding
« on: Thursday, September 23, 2010, 23:35:33 PM »
I'm thinking of a few mods to perform just to change a few things up.

My list:
Remove Source switch and put in place a actual switch to enable/disable speaker output
Since Source will be removed, Line-In can now become a 2nd headphone jack (a feature I've seen a few people asking for)
Tidying up the wiring. I know Ryan spent time on this but I really don't think it's wise to run the speaker output lines like 1/4" away from the power transformer.
Cap replacing might be in order as well if I'm going to be doing major work.

Yea, too much time has been wasted with spontaneous "projects" that I get too eager to work on and rush then they just turn out like crap.

Hardware/Software / Speaker Cable
« on: Thursday, September 23, 2010, 21:13:28 PM »
S/T I've been whining for speaker cable for a little bit now cuz I moved my A1 and I'm about 2 feet short on the cable I was using before. What I was using before was 4 strands of 20awg and I used 2 strands per wire so it came out in-between 15 and 16awg. It works ok as far as I know. But since I moved the A1, I had to splice in about 2-3ft of 20awg wire (the same stuff I doubled up) to extend it. Although I notice no difference, I don't like that. A spool of 50ft 12awg from monoprice is pretty cheap but I'm even cheaper. I was wandering around, contemplating something I could do when I saw the old extension cord that's shorted out. Now, I've read people using Home Depot 6awg outdoor extension cables for speaker wire so I'm thinking, why not this? It's 3x16awg as far as I can tell and if I can find and cut out the short, I'd have plenty of length and about 5-6awg cable. Thoughts? (I may get anxious and try it before you even see this message :P)

*EDIT*
The A1 has pretty much 3 ways of connecting speaker wire:
Spade
Banana Plugs
Bare Wire

Seeing that I'm too cheap to buy & solder on spades or banana plugs, I'm limited to bare wire. I've learned that the A1's hole size is 9awg. Using 3x16awg lands somewhere between 5 and 6awg which is too large. 2x16awg (pinch larger than 10awg) would fit but that means stripping off the outer shell of the extension cord and using 2 of the 3 strands inside. 3x18awg (typical computer power cables) would work but I don't have 2 10ft sections and even if I had that much cable, I'd have to solder cables together which sucks. I'm tempted to rip apart the extension cord since it's been sitting un-fixed for months now.

Dann, don't get butthurt when something of yours isn't read. Take it out on mans. I didn't read it because I'm lazy, I didn't read it because I don't get into politics, nothing against you.

I downloaded it and was going to post "Nice to see this back. Good work Jonny." in the shoutbox but I have absolutely no clue where to put my name/account info at lol (probably been too long since I've used it). The cosmetic things I can see different are no DRAAT and no TeamSpeak. If I had any reason to play AA, I'd play with 2.5 Assist :)

Off-topic but oh how I'd love a farm truck. If only I had a couple hundred bucks and some experience in auto mechanics.
