Media & Art / Spanky's P.O.V. Suggestions
« on: Saturday, September 25, 2010, 21:54:11 PM »
A few people seemed to like it so I thought I might try another one. What I was thinking for this is maybe you guys can reply to this thread with questions you want to ask me (silly or serious) and I won't look at this thread until I start recording on the camera. As I'm typing this, this is the only time until then that I will look at the thread. If anyone has any questions, ask them in the shoutbox or even better, create a new thread to ask me in. I'll open this for 1 week (until October 2nd) then I'll find some time after that to go ahead with the video.

Mods, if you could, keep an organized list of the questions listed below the line with the full question as typed (copy pasta) by the asker along with the askers name before the question.

    and GO!

This thread will be an ongoing suggestion box for my POV videos. Things will be removed after I discuss them.

Graphics aren't only about realistic textures and lighting and all that shit. Graphics also involves things such as art style

I'd have to agree. Fluidity, simplistic yet amazing effects, creative use of objects and FPS (not so much on consoles) are also a big part.

I have Wordpress installed but they jew you with a banner across the top. If I can find out how to get rid of it, I'll probably switch the site over.

    Check it out:
    https://sourceforge.net/apps/wordpress/aa25assist/

    *EDIT*
I'm seeing absolutely no way to add a 3rd party theme or edit much. I think it's a dumbed down version of Wordpress, not to mention outdated and no visible way of updating.

Just throwing it out there Jonny but we could see about a subdomain on my hosting? I've been thinking about upgrading my account and Rodger offered me a 500mb/5gb (disk/bandwidth) hosting package that I'm probably going to get once I get the money rounded up. If that's enough for an Assist website, I'd be happy to host something un-restricted and give you FTP and Admin access.

Extension cord I ended up not using:

    Teflon coated cable I used:

    Hooked up:

Old cable, about half the gauge of new:

Thoughts? With literally a couple minutes of listening to 1 album with a fan running in the background I think I hear extended sound (more highs & lows). This could be placebo, it could be the fact that this is my first time listening to this album in FLAC (replaced a old 192kbps MP3 rip). It works, it was free, it looks good, it's larger gauge. The problem is that it wasn't long enough for where I had the A1. I ended up cutting a piece of wood and re-organized equipment so I could use shorter lengths of wire. I'm pleased and happy to have my speakers working again lol. Maybe sometime in the future something "better" will appear.

Hmmmmm. I spent some time stripping the extension cord. Fond memories came rolling back as I saw the inner-side of the hot lead was black. I think this was the overloaded extension cord used for the old AC unit. The cord was always warm/hot to the touch (duh, stupid, I know) and so I'm guessing this is from heat. I don't really want to use it now. I'll probably end up buying the 50ft spool from Monoprice as it's 25 cents a foot. I do have this interesting wire, it's 2 conductor with a shield and it almost feels like it's wrapped in teflon. Seemingly top shit stuff but I would have to move equipment around to try and make the length I need shorter.

Oh, so this website is hosted through sourceforge? I'll register but what I may be able to do might be limited. It might just be a basic html site.

Ok, I think I'm going to use the extension cord. I've read a little bit and while I like buying nice things, it's hard to buy into expensive cables unless they're shielded and that's kinda outside of my price range now.

Someone who's opinion I highly appreciate:

    An interesting article:
    http://consumerist.com/2008/03/do-coat-hangers-sound-as-good-monster-cables.html

I see it a couple ways here:
Either cables are bullshit and I'm not going to notice a difference. Or, the extension cord (due to quality) will be better than the spool of 20awg I picked up at k-mart like 6-7 years ago that I'm currently using. Even if the extension cord isn't better, I'm still getting 2 things: Larger gauge and proper length needed. To me, that makes it worth it.

Now we just need to make a nice web page to go up on AA25.org... Any volunteers?

Wordpress IMO. Easy to get up and running with content.

I really see no reason not to use bare wire, as long as it's "tinned". Adding connectors just adds cost, length (banana plugs) and a possible connection issue. I think I need something other than what I'm using, that's not really debatable. The problem is... what? I always prefer not buying anything if I don't have to and just came across the broken extension cord. Is it a totally bad idea? Would it be worse than the bottom-bucket doubled-up crap I'm using now? Here's what I'm eyeballing at Monoprice:

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2747&seq=1&format=2

Dirt cheap and I only need about 10ft per speaker.
Another question that you probably know the answer to and since your jew-ass isn't on AIM: Is it a bad idea to go like 3ft on one speaker and 10ft on the other? I would think you would want as close as possible length on all speakers so the resistance is identical (or close to).
