I don't think you will be able to run a full 26 slot server but maybe upwards of 10 if all the players are Israelis as long as your ping, packet loss and jitter are ok.
You can try this site with the ports listed above:

Hardware/Software / Re: Liquid Cooling

Yea, I know I won't get a ton of heat but I was kind of thinking using maybe 5-6 hoseclamps to secure the copper pipe to the stovepipe (I thought of AS5 or Thermal Tape but it might just burn up or melt all over). Maybe I don't want a lot of heat transfer since CPU heat is considerably less than that of a burning stove and having too much may overwhelm the radiator or wear out the pump. I think the second thing to think about is that I would probably start off with 2 sections of copper pipe and that would probably approach 15ft of tubing total... I've not seen many computers with 15ft of water cooling tubing.
I'd really hate to cut into the exhaust tubing, that means I'd have to get some high-temp silicone and that would probably break any fire code rules. Not to mention make it harder to clean the inside of the pipe.
Maybe this is just a pipe dream

This query is open to everyone but I'm mostly asking Knight since I would think he has the most "read" knowledge on the subject. I've been thinking about reclaiming some heat from our pellet stove exhaust pipe. They make reclaimers for regular stoves but you have to actually cut out a section and install this ugly device. I'm wondering about running maybe 1/4" copper pipe along the length (floor to ceiling) to extract some heat and then run it through a basic computer water cooling setup to get a little extra heat. Since it will run significantly hotter than a computer, I'm wondering if cheap pumps break down with heat quickly or if there's a heat limit for the plastic tubing... I could probably look this up but I'm just asking for opinions/views. The only problem I see is that I'll have to rig up a computer power supply and that the radiator might not expel all the heat (which is fine, it's not like I'm overclocking and will get a BSOD from heat
) fast enough. I figure maybe under $100 and I could have a mock-up device that could tell me what to do next...

If you

Hardware/Software / Re: First Step Internet
« on: Thursday, November 18, 2010, 19:26:31 PM »Is that speed consistent? Because sometimes SpeedTest.net will mess up.
That's the best I've gotten directly connected. Glitch or not, I'm taking it. I do consistently get just under 4mbps down and just under 1mbps up. Connected to a router, I get a couple more ms latency.

Yea, do this. There's really no point in whining or us helping you if your internet speed will only allow a 2 player server...

I do believe you should also forward the ports on your router to your computer that you're trying to run the server on. This is a bit more complicated though and there isn't a 1 answer fits all solution.
Before doing anything else, go to Speedtest.net and post your results. If your speeds aren't good enough to run a server there's no sense in beating yourself up trying to get one to run...

« on: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 22:19:55 PM »I have no idea whatsoever if you can add an eSATA port to a netbook.I doubt it but who knows, maybe on the really new ones.
In a perfect world I'd have a little netbook with an internal 1TB HDNo. Unless it's a SSD. Do not. Shocks, drops, high temperatures and other nasties are more prone to laptops. If your laptop will never move and the hard drive is properly cooled with a blowing fan, maybe. Do you really want all the data currently on your external to be randomly destroyed in an accident?
In the cheapest possible way - keeping in mind I already have a 1TB external that I'd prefer to work with - what do you guys suggest I do? I guess I could settle for a $249 (on Apple's site) iPod classic with 160GB but that doesn't solve my laptop problem and I have more than 160GB of music so I'd have to pick and choose. They make little HD's like 320GB and 500GB (I saw a couple once, Western Digital) that are actually laptop hard drives powered by the USB port. This might be your best bet.
Also, for fuck's sake, be as gentle as possible with any external drive you get. If it goes in a car or backpack, wrap it in a blanket. Less shock and movement = happier hard drive and a happier hard drive is less likely to destroy your data.
