It's really easy when you get the process down and get your soldering iron super hot. What I do is put some flux on both the wire and the gold parts I will be soldering to then I get a little dab of solder on the iron and "tin" both the wire and the plug then combine the two and it melts together super quick and easy without burning insulation or your hands.
I also picked up my new DAC (Audio-GD NFB-12) today (
http://twitpic.com/5fs0si) and got to use these RCA interconnects for the first time. I really like them. They're way snugger than any other RCA plug I've used and really sturdy too. I used to use the well known brand Neutrik but I will probably switch to these for anything else.
