Assist Support / Re: I want someone to explain to me why I was banned?
« on: Wednesday, May 21, 2025, 09:21:37 AM »
I was banned from the chatbox just the the day, and I was told on Discord which comment caused my ban, with a screenshot. Fortunately, it’s only for 24 hours and you could still comment in the chatbox via the forum (unless you get a ban from that as well. lol).

I saw your comment which lead to your 24 hour ban, and I thought it was such a non-story, I can’t actually remember what you said.....

In the past 7 days, me, Carmy, Playtronics and Bumpy have been given temporary bans. I really don’t understand what the hell is going on to be honest....
I can tell you what is going on. But I've got a feeling you won't like it.

There's a bunch of grown ass adults acting like children. And the 25Assist team is left to deal with these children. Whether we act on something or not, we always get shit thrown back in our face. In fact, we're being told we're dictators whenever we do something about the nonsense and hate going on in the shoutbox. And we're being told we're biased if we don't get to something else one of you thinks is "just as bad" within an hour or two.

There used to be a saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anyhting at all". But clearly this community has self-identified as "if you can't throw fuel to the drama fire, don't bother posting".

EDIT:
I don't know what was said exactly. But my best guess is that it was something that was adding fuel to the fire. And the easiest way to put out a fire is to remove its fuel. Which is what was done.
Perhaps the fuel was unintentional. Perhaps something was said as a joke. Perhaps there was a misunderstand. I don't know. But the only real option for slowing down this toxic behaviour in the shoutbox is for us to give people 24h bans on the shoutbox. Perhaps it would be better if we called it a "time out" instead of a ban. But the effect remains the same.

I don't know whether or when you were banned from shoutbox. All I could see is that shortly before you posted this thread you had - in fact - posted on the shoutbox.

With that said, whenever someone does get banned, there is never any "explanation". It's just not something that's built into that system.

But if you were in fact banned, it was a temporary 24h ban. Probably for something you said. And that something was probably removed as well.
I could probably manually dig through the database to find what you posted and what was removed. But I really don't feel like it.

You were banned from what? The shoutbox? The forums? The game?

I don't see a record of any of those.

Username: hgm2112
Tried to log in and the username doesn't exist. I played like 18 months ago.
The login name for that account is "hgm!". Login names are separate from in game names.

General Chat / Re: How can i download AA 2.5 on Apple M3 Max Sequoia 15.4
« on: Sunday, April 20, 2025, 16:33:12 PM »
The Mac support AA 2.5 had isn't even compatible with old Intel Macs, it's for even older PowerPC macs. a CPU architecture that has been dead on the desktop since around 2005 when Apple ditched it for Intel and x86.
Shows what I know. Never played this on a Mac. But I do recall the issues coming about regarding the inability to load the game when Catalina came around in 2019.

So I suppose the compatibility layer we'd be looking for was Rosetta 1 - to allow it to work on x86 after having been built for the PowerPC versions of MacOS.
Though given that they dropped that in 2011, it's weird that I don't really recall seeing major issues with newer Macs well before the Catalina release. Though it's somewhat less surprising given I joined the team in 2014 (had to look this up, by the way!)...

Regardless, I believe my point that this is going to be hard if not impossible will still stand. But just with an extra step of hard...

EDIT:
By the way - the above made me think of all the releases that AA had. And I compiled a list on our Wiki, just for the sake of it. So if anyone wants to go down memory lane, there might be something there (withink the links):

I'm not entirely sure and certainly no expert, but it used to be possible to VM Windows on Mac, wasn't it. If so, that'd be your best option.
So you might be able to do that, to an extent.

But the problem is that today, an M1/2/3/4 MacBook runs on an ARM based CPU architecture. So all it can do in a VM is run Windows on ARM. And Windows on ARM does provide an emulation layer for x86 to run applications built for that. So if all that works (which is not guaranteed given the age of this game and other specifics), you'd be loosing performance in 2 places: first, the VM emulating Windows; and second the Windows on ARM emulation layer for x86.

The underlying problem here is that the M1/2/3/4 processors are based on ARM. Whereas the processors used by MacBooks before (by Intel) and the processors (mostly!) used by other PCs were/are x86. Those are two different instruction sets for processor architecture. While Apple was able to introduce an emulation for x86 applications (called Rosetta 2), these are only really suitable for native MacOS apps (which at the time were 64bit applications - like said above, 32bit applications were phased out before) and won't be extendible to run 25Assist (or AA).

PS:
If someone does manage to get M1/2/3/4 -> Windows on ARM VM -> 25Assist running, don't hesitate to post a thread about how that went. Or even if you try and it doesn't work - so others can potentially save time.

You can't.

I'm pretty sure there's a massive disclaimer when you're attempting to download the 25Assist client for a Mac. It won't work on any new or newish Mac.

The client (and game) are built for 32bit x86 architecture CPUs. And while Macbooks used to run on x86 (before the M1), they haven't supported 32bit applications for years now.

EDIT:
To quote from the popup you get when triyng to download the MacOS client:
Quote
Assist is 32bit and won't work on the latest Mac OS (Catalina and newer) because those only support 64bit applications
So that means this hasn't been possibel since version 10.15 released in 2019.

AA Support / Re: Another user logged on with my account?
« on: Thursday, April 10, 2025, 09:02:58 AM »
Usually this indicates that the authentication server has a log in session with your account that hasn't been terminated yet.
As you suggested, this will normally happen if the Assist cleint crashes or something else goes wrong such that the authentication server wasn't told of the ending of the session (i.e loss of an interent connection could be another cuplrit).

The sessions are timed out after a certain time (don't know off the top of my head, but minutes rather than hours). And after that you should be fine to log in again on the account.

Now, if this happened hours from when you didn't have a 25Assist client open any time in the immediate past, it would indeed be a more concerning situation. However, we do track some login information on a per account basis - and like Bart said above, your account didn't have any logins from anywhere other than your computer/IP.

I did click on the "make a donation" mark where help keep assist going doante to cover server costs.
I've donated last year though didn't know how to make it also when I go to see my donation I can't see it either
...
If you don't see it on your end, then it must have not gone through for whatever reason. You can try and contact Nick directly if you like - he's the one that handles the donation account.

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Ban Standardization
« on: Thursday, February 27, 2025, 16:52:06 PM »
To answer Hpye's original question, I don't think any precise rules are needed.

Be kind to each other and respectful as you would want to be treated. Joke around but understand there may be consequence if you repeatedly go to far and this community finds what you are doing as offensive. You all know what is socially acceptable and don't act like you don't. Act like you would as if you were in front of that person. Know when you cross the line and be man or woman enough to say sorry when you do or think you did.

This should not be that difficult to follow.
I think this sentiment is correct. But there is nuance that a lot of people seem to miss.

Like I've said before, we're an international community. And as such, many have different cultural backgrounds. Which means different tolerances for certain activities. I don't think anyone is saying you can't joke around with your friends / people you know. I'm pretty sure I call Bart a hacker every time I see him online - I know he can take it :) ! But I don't do that with people I don't know.

I guess the TLDR would be: don't assume that other people have the same tolerance for "trash talk".

PS: What do you do when you assume?
