You can't play them as-is but they can be converted. It takes a LOT of time. I started work on a converter 2 years ago but never finished it. Basically, you open the 2.8 map in the editor, go select all then copy then paste it into a text editor. From there, you rename packages like T_AA2_FX to T2-FX. Once you change every single object and texture, you copy the contents of the text file and paste it into the 2.5 editor, cross your fingers and hit build all.

Actually, SF Refinery is already converted and in mAAp.

Might want to be careful with the version you have, I spy: "mutate ihacknow wpnAccuracy" and "mutate ihacknow poke" which most likely just rename pokes. Crusade made backdoors in a few mods.

Looking around more, Hackhunter might conflict with admins, possibly causing the problems on my server. From the readme:

On the server page and in the options, the server name isn't properly displayed like it is on the deploy page. I set it to light blue and it's green in the server page and options and missing the S in the beginning.

Oh, and other minor things:
For the query engine; "No Players" sounds a bit odd, maybe just put "Players". Same for "No Querys", it should be "Queries".

Submit evidence of hacking and we can Globally ban player from all 2.5Assist server using their AAO Tracker account ID.

can you please make a brightness contrast and gamma to work ingame?

Those settings are in Assist and you can use the F keys to change them as well. You shouldn't really need to change them though, if your monitor is calibrated decently. Unless, you're trying to get an advantage, then I don't see you getting much help.

Updated with the 2 pine trees in the main area as xProcMeshes so they have some life. I also reskinned the clock to make it look better, I'll add a ticking sound and a moving second hand for fun.

Not sure if I like the new trees or not. Blue, maybe you can check them out and see if you can do better? :)

You know, I remember Crusade built a map voter where if say 6 people typed "mutate bridge" it would move the server to bridge. I'm sure something could be done where if a username is in a list on the Assist server, they can mutate to any map. Good idea :)

Assist is ONLY for AA v2.5. There is no way to make it use 2.8.5 files unless Jonny decides to spend a lot of time making another version but why would he do that when 2.5 is cross-platform and has mAAp and, the most important thing, already fully works :)

This is more of a feature request but I would like to see "CommoHandler" warnings omitted from server logs. They're just for PunkBuster messages since technically nobody is giving the message so it errors out.

Kind of useless and just adds to the server log file. Would also be cool to color certain things in Assist like "Open myLevel" for player joins and "Close TcpipConnection" for player leaves. Just to make things more pronounced and easier to read. Also, auto scroll would be cool :)

Pipeline is updated with the things marked as fixed in Skrewy's post. I also modified the break room stairs light particles to be smaller and fading. Let me know if they look better.
