As for changing/editing things, how about enabling VSync by default for people's settings? There's no downside to it and it prevents tearing that seems to happen a lot in AA.

Assist tells you that you don't have mAAp installed and when you click OK it goes through checking authorization and whatnot then launches the normal AA menu.

:D

I added some AA3 sounds, the outside ambient wind and the tunnel echoes. I just need to hone in on the proper radius and volumes. I took notes of other maps' ambient sound settings and I'm going to try those.

I quite like the yellow doors too, the windows in the doors provide an extra layer of caution to the map, you can't just simply camp in main entrance anymore.

You guys should check out the moving garage door, I put some nice haze lights in there. Also the broken lamp in break room can be shot to turn off, that was Skrewy's idea.

Map is certainly coming along :)

Server Support / Running An Assist Server - Ports & IP's
« on: Wednesday, January 11, 2012, 21:13:25 PM »
Since I had a hard time getting my server going, I'm listing out a few things that can help others get theirs going. This is what I did:

Forwarded Incoming UDP Ports:
1716, 1717

Allowed Outgoing UDP Ports:
20046, 20047, 27900

Unblocked IP's in PeerBlock:
63.142.94.250
66.36.231.175
66.117.38.134 - US Army
66.180.170.20
69.10.30.0 - 69.10.30.255 - IGN
188.165.212.209
204.15.228.214
208.88.178.59
209.123.205.212

The 4 red IP's were needed for the server to show up in the browser. The rest were accessing my server at ports 1716-1718 so they wanted something with my AA server.

*EDIT*
I was just looking at my server on PBall and saw there was 10 people in it so I thought I would do a check on how much CPU, memory and bandwidth is required for that. Here's what I got:

At the second half of the bandwidth graph, people started to leave, it was down to about 4 people at that time. I think it's safe to say that for a 10 slot server, you need a minimum of 128MB available memory, a single-core CPU running at 1.5GHz or higher and 500kbps upload. Keep in mind, PBall has physics which puts extra load on the server so for a 1mbps upload internet connection, you should be able to host a 20-26 slot server, depending on the other computers on your network. Maybe these stats will give other people a rough idea of how well their server will perform.

Have change the bones like you said, I think the mod already does headshot message.
Thanks :)

I'm not including a random guns mod, don't like it, But nothing stopping you manually loading a mod.
I don't particularly like it but I do remember a while back having it and a lot of people seemed to enjoy it. Random snipers is pretty cool since it's mostly fair rather than random guns where someone gets an AT4 or RPG.

Even though using the editor is a copyright infringement, I don't really want to add copyrighted music to the game. The in-game usage has to outweigh the download size IMO and custom music wouldn't.

Jonny is it possible to remove flash, and nades? so that people don't knew if the flash hit you?

I didn't ask because the mod would need to be recompiled. I don't know if he has the source or not. I might but it could be a different mod.

I think it might be cool to add random snipers, random weapons and killing spree to Assist for a server option. I have the mods right here with the source code:

Thoughts?

i agree, pipe needs more pazazz behind the building.  It needs to be a place where people want to go and not just walk by it

I added a few more things yesterday after the video. Maybe it's just how my mind works but I have a hard time adding clutter naturally :)

General Chat / Assist File Locations
« on: Wednesday, January 11, 2012, 02:29:34 AM »
Just in case you're required to delete or change files (as recommended by Jonny) or if you feel like you know what you're doing, here are the file locations for Assist:

Mac OSX: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/25Assist/armyops.app/
Linux: /home/USERNAME/25Assist/armyops/
Windows XP: C:\Documents and settings\USERNAME\Application Data\25Assist\armyops\
Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\25Assist\armyops\

You replace USERNAME with the user account of your computer. Windows Vista or 7 users may have to go through these steps to view their Assist install:
http://www.question-defense.com/2008/11/03/cannot-see-appdata-folder-in-vista-unhide-all-files-and-folders-in-vista/

Note: If you download and install 2.5 externally (i.e. AmericasArmy250_Download.exe or any other form outside Assist), Assist will still copy the files to the above location making you have 2 copies of AA. It's recommended to uninstall the second copy that Assist isn't using to save free space.

To quote Jonny:
Quote
Don't piss about with the files in there unless you have to, The way Assist works with these files is quite complex and you could seriously fuck things up.

Blue and you others that have Dropbox access, check out Pipeline. I've spent quite a bit of time today refining the lighting in the bathroom and in Main CP. I think Main CP is finished for lighting, effects and windows.

clearly win7 x64

Windows aren't transparent so it could be XP with a Windows 7 skin.
