blueman, I don't recall getting your PM's (there's none in my inbox currently). If I didn't reply and just deleted it (I don't recall doing this) it was probably because I had nothing to say :) If there's a problem and I can help, I'll speak up.

You keep talking about custom configurations and setups that are broken with updates, what are these? Again, if they're something great that the whole of the community could benefit from, then please share so it can be added to Assist. But, to be blunt and honest, the default Assist stuff (aside from PB messages, although a lot of clans over-do this) is really good. It's the culmination of the best PB configs there are plus 2 anti-hacking mods that actively check many variables and things the user is doing.

To be fair, a lot of things had to change in this last version, it was a major update for files and security. Future updates should be smaller and a lot more flexible.

I looked at your older posts and it seems like your suggestions/issues were all solved. It's great that you've come here with requests and ideas, you're doing more than the majority of the community.

Here's my method to solve this whole discussion:
blueman, you find a way to properly implement tag protection in your Assist install and ask Jonny nicely with a step-by-step guide on how to implement it and maybe he will do it. You can also ask him for a custom PB config file that can be edited in Assist (much like the edit User.ini option). This way you can add your own PB settings into a separate file that gets loaded by Assist that won't be overwritten with new updates. Finally, forget about a ban list. Chances are slim that there's UScript hackers still around (it's been dead since 2.7 came out). All the old hacks are detected and the old banlists aren't valid due to a new user system. If you find someone is hacking, just post it here and they will go away.

The veterans like realistic maps. I personally don't want to see any more aim maps added to mAAp, there's already several quick rush maps and not many realistic objective style.

It's not all about ping. Bad packet loss or high jitter means that your ping could jump higher without visibly raising. For example, if you have packet loss and the packets you're sending get lost, you have to send them again which doubles your ping or perhaps quadruples your ping if you count send and receive. I'm not much of an expert on network communication but I do know these things factor in.

Yea, what's your hard-on about for clan tag protection? I always thought that was such a useless feature. Whoop-de-doo, someone is using your clan tags. Perhaps all he does is TK and someone that got TK'd posts in your forum and rages? It's pretty simple, just tell the rager that the person doing the TK's isn't in your clan. Done, problem solved.

As for your custom uber 1337 banlist, so what? You think a list of names will keep hackers out better than the best PB checks, HackHunter and Anti-Poke combined? Ha. I can only imagine a large list of names slowing down a server, especially when usernames can be changed so easily. If you have proof that someone in 2.5 is currently hacking, let us know and they will be eliminated. Again, it's pretty simple.

I also chuckle that u brought up in your post about money u paid to everybody except john whose doing this work, I paid the electric company and gas company but my water went off sorta thing

This.

Why is it that a bunch of people can come in and say Thank You for the work you've done and all it takes is one ungrateful user to ruin the whole feeling of accomplishment and pride.

First thing that comes to mind; are you trying to run a 2.8 server at the same time?

Always happens to me by default. Typically I'll be listening to music while mapping and go in to test a map and the sound drops. I find it a nice behavior so you're not blasting 2 different streams of audio. Those that listen to music while playing games (other than solitaire) are fail.

x2 If we get the weapon slots open

I have thoughts on how to do this but it would require editing all of the maps which would make for a big update. Not really something we wanna do right now.

Gday guys.

Back around 2.7 unsure exactly which update it was, but there was 2 maps that a lot of people I know seriously miss.
I know I miss them

Canyon and District

These were 2 really good maps that when the 2.8.5 version was released were no longer accessible.

They are still installed in my maps folder and even the tours.ini shows them, however if we tried to switch to either of these maps on the server, it would crash.

If possible can these 2 maps be converted for 2.5???

I love my multiplayer missions but I am also a bit of a coop whore, great to hear that Interdiction will also be an option. just wondering where we stand on SnakePlain though???

Cheers guys we are loving your work.

Canyon and District, they're for 2.8? I wonder why they would crash with 2.8.5... Being the stickler that I am for quality, I'm not really in the mood lately to convert a map with all the hassles to get it properly working like the original. There's a lot of documentation here that you or someone else could convert it and we'll include it :)

As for Interdiction, sorry to burst your bubble but it will be 2 teams in the same complex. No AI. At least, not right now. I have to experiment with it and see if I can get it properly working in 2.5. But I'm mostly in bugfix mode right now.

Well, i like your idea but sorry doesn't work for me.
Nice job btw, i build the first and only dutch server and kept it online for just a month and now offline because of wrong updates,...

I have installed all the updates (Hell,. i tried deleting al the files from 25Assist) and server can be started but without my whole security system. I receive a lot of errors and malfunctions, i need to rewrite the whole system for it to work again and i don't know if i want to,.. What if next week you decide to change the whole thing again with an automatic (that scares me the most actually) update.

Just use the normal PB files and not some files that you created, this isn't going to work for me.

Just posted a message on our portal for all dutch players, hopefully you will give me a correct update soon so i can get the server online ASAP. Because i won't put the server online without any of my protection methods, the protection that you build in is nice but doesn't cut it for me.

Grtz

If you have protection that is greater than Jonny's PB checks, Anti-Poke and Hack Hunter, it would benefit the whole of the AA community to share them. If they truly are better, I know Jonny would add them.

You can use the file locations in the readme to browse to the Maps folder and get a good list:

QUESTION: Where the hell does assist store the game system files and all its data?

ANSWER MAC-OSX: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/25Assist/
ANSWER LINUX: /home/USERNAME/25Assist/
ANSWER WINDOWS XP: C:\Documents and settings\USERNAME\Application Data\25Assist\
ANSWER WINDOWS VISTA/7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\25Assist\

As for Anti-Poke Mismatch, make sure your client and server is updated (restart both).

You'll have to edit the fog color in all the level info and the light color on the bigger lights for a start.

For the rain on shipment, I used an emitter with 1200 particles that had a lifetime of 2 seconds or so. There's a special FX drop texture for it. If it's raining, you won't have direct light so you'll want to remove sunlight actors (rather than just changing the color and brightness of them). This should give you a good start.

Welcome :) I haven't been playing as long as you but I still remember the glory days. For your question about servers, there seems to be a growing amount but 50+ is a reliable number as of now. I think there was around 70 this morning and there's 53 now. Not sure how that works but it gives you a good idea. There was also something like 130 players on earlier all at once that I saw. There's probably more and that number keeps growing as well. I haven't seen numbers like these in years.

You shouldn't have to reinstall the whole server. It's just Assist's files, PB & server configurations and mAAp. Probably no more than 90mb in total.
