That's a bad way to look at things. Your vote counted, it was part of the vote, but your side lost. It counted. It might not have counted on the fdederal level, but it counted on the state level, and that's more important in our system.

It is a bad way, especially since it was the first and only time I voted. But, looking at what Obama has done and how much people are pissed off with him, voting is a lose-lose battle. The whole 4 years thing is crap too. It's probably more beneficial to contact your rep/congressman to voice your concerns and sway the vote for bills.

Also, saying that a vote doesn't count towards the election of the president is crazy, because all evidence says it does.

My evidence says it doesn't. I voted Obama and the majority in my redneck state voted McCain. My vote did absolutely nothing.

some people understand engineering good like you, some people understand philosiphy good. none of them is more important than the other. money is just this idea that has also been spoon fed to us remeber its just a piece of paper. people used to trade goods in order to survive, thats what it needs to go back to. trade for what you need, not trade a usless object for what you need. trading a useful object for another useful object is much more satisfying,

I really agree with this. Money is fake. It's accepted as real though. Small communities are awesome where you can barter goods for goods or services for goods or goods for services. I always try to solicit labor for goods.

Come one Spanky, more generalizations. A typical work day is 8 hours. There is time to do stuff, even on the weekdays. It's stupid to claim people go to work, eat, and then go to sleep, that's not true at all. I don't know anybody that does that.

Also, debt isn't a bad thing, it's actually a great thing. It's only when debt gets out of hand that it becomes problematic. If you're using the money you borrow wisely and make it worth it, you will have no problems. Borrowing money to go to college is a great idea, as long as you're learning something useful. Borrowing money to get a philosophy degree is bad. Borrowing money to get an engineering degree is good. It all comes down to how you use the money.

Typical work day = 8 hours. 8 hours + 2 hours driving time = 10 hours. Let's say an hour for pre-work prep time and post-work unwinding time. 11 hours. Toss in an hour for dinner. 12 hours. 9 hours of sleep so there's 3 hours left. 3 hours of wiggle room a day. Not much time if you have overtime or you work slightly longer than a typical work day. Plus, you just worked all day, you're tired and in the winter months, you likely get home when it's dark. It's a lifestyle that leaves so much to be desired really.

A little loan here and there isn't bad, as long as you can manage it. I still call student loans a bad thing because you're stuck for 4 years and like I said earlier, you don't get a dream job right out of college, nobody pays of their student loans immediately. Being in debt for thousands of dollars for several years... that's just asking for trouble. American society allows it though. What if we were run by a mob? Lots more people would be wearing concrete shoes if you catch my drift.

It seems that you think your way of life is better than others. Why do you care if others choose to go to school and collect debt? That's how they want to live. Not to mention having a 9-5 job leaves plenty of time to do thing, even on the weekdays. It's extremely ignorant to call these people drones. You don't know what they do, you're assuming they go to work, then sleep, which isn't true in most cases. You're judging them as lesser individuals than, is your life really any more meaningful?

I do think my way of life is better than others. It's not the best but it's certainly not the worst. I care that others collect debt because it's become an American standard. We spend money we don't have. Isn't that scary to you? Doesn't the nation's debt bother you? I don't care about what other people do unless it affects other people. Insensitive things like smoking, pollution, resource wasting and debt affect more than just the person that decides to do it. It's selfish because they're only thinking about their self. Again, I'm not perfect, I'm not high and mighty. I pollute, waste and have a credit card. But I try to limit that as much as possible and I KNOW that other people can limit theirs as well. That's the first step to becoming a better nation as a whole.

I don't think it's ignorant to call those people drones. It's exactly what they are. I've seen it in person. Wake up early to drive an hour to work, work all day, drive an hour back home, grab dinner and go straight to bed. Get up and do it again! Then when the weekend comes, you're exhausted so you sleep in and boom! 1/4 of your weekend is gone so you have Saturday afternoon before anything gets done, money is tight because of loans and debt. It's a malicious cycle that doesn't really sustain anything, it doesn't allow you to accomplish anything in life.

Occupy was silly, just a bunch of people doing nothing.

More and more generalizations. You can't work and not be a drone at the same time? That seems illogical.

I'm talking about the majority of workers, the ones chasing the American dream. That's exactly what Grapes is talking about too. Those people that beat themselves every day and live for the weekend. It's such a rat race. Great reason why I don't go into town on the weekend, all the rushing people. Take a look outside at a highway on Memorial Day weekend. All those people, rushing to try and go camping, try and grab a pinch of nature because they never see any in their drone lifestyles. It's funny really.

I find myself siding with Grapes more actually. I'm not a nut or a conspiracy theorist. I look at the facts. There are so many things that are better than the American dream. I believe self-teaching and experience can make you more educated than college can, at a cheaper price too. A lot of specific jobs require more than college as well such as trade schools or certification. Just skip college and get those things. You'll gain 4 years of your life and you won't be in debt!

Possessed, I'm glad you touched on the drug issue and thanks for sharing your views and experiences. Marijuana is a drug, there's no getting around it. It alters your state of mind. But, a lot of other things do as well that are legal and shouldn't be. Cigarettes, alcohol, energy drinks and more are all hazardous to your health and alter your mind. Making things legal or illegal won't solve issues because humans (more specifically Americans) live in such a weak and easy fix culture that grabbing a health-reducing crutch is far easier than dealing with issues.

+50000 respect for Possessed. He's said the best things so far in this thread.

lol Killaman, your presidential vote doesn't matter. Direct action matters. I'm actually not going to vote in this next election. You won't improve the world by saying "guy x should be president", you change the world by changing your life and then improving your local world (environment, habitat, dwelling, community, whatever you want to call it). Then inspire others to change and improve for the better.

What's the purpose of life?

OH OH OH I KNOW I KNOW!!!

Sex. There's nothing religious, spiritual or philosophical. We're here to breed and make more of us. That's what all animals do. We're pretty good at it too.

Wow, 4 new replies. Hot thread!

Grapes touched on something in one of the last posts. I too am not a worker drone. It's really laughable that the American way is to loan yourself into debt then spend all day every week day working your ass off and then on the weekends try to do things but never accomplish anything because you're too tired from the week and still don't have any money.

nope, weed is not a drug.
Shocking.

we dont need college that cost 50 thousand a year. information is free go to the library.
I fully agree.

Grapes, there are a lot of things in this world that are un-necessary that people get hooked on and dump money into while other people are just trying to have their first meal in the last week. Personally, I think loans, especially student loans, are one of those things. You rack up debt and can't get a decent job to pay it off because most of the time you're in school so what little time you do have for a job doesn't pay most of the bills. It takes so long to get back on your feet after college because your dream job isn't waiting for you and then you either rent an apartment which is money wasted or you buy a house with yet another loan and spend the rest of your life paying it off. All this financial shit is interwoven.

why blue collars get paid less then white collar =/= why poverty is still an issue today

I think we can all agree on this even though Skrewy said it. There's jobs that demand more from you and thus compensate you more. Poverty is an issue of a lack of people saving combined with inflation and a lack of jobs due to outsourcing and under qualification.

I'm not rich, I can't randomly buy things I want but I live comfortably. If I came into a large sum of money, I would donate to a degree. You can't help everybody and those you do, they might not appreciate it or have an appreciation for a dollar so they don't know how to manage their money and they blow it. There's a lot of wasted money and a lot of needy people out there. There's also a lot of groups and organizations that are under-funded and there's a lot of big corporations that have too much money. The whole financial system is out of balance. The majority of Americans need a whack in the head to wake up and realize that a dollar is important, as is what you do with it.

Like I said, it depends on the type of blue collar work. It takes money and time to learn a trade like welding or becoming a linesman.

I understand and accept the "paid for how hard you are to replace", that makes sense. Think about it for a bit, on a factory line, you're instructed to put x part here, tighten x nut. You do that over and over. For a coder or designer (there's many ways to code and many ways to design) it takes a lot more than strict steps. You need a creative mind to come up with creative ways to solve a problem or complete a specific task. Nobody tells an artist how to work because there is no manual, yet there is a manual for a factory worker. Although, saying that just made me think of Skrewy. That puts a different perspective on things because he is a blue collar worker but there is no manual for what he does, it requires experience and talent to weld something in a way that it won't fail while under load. Welders do fetch a fair bit of money though so I guess it depends on the type of blue collar work.

:) Effectively, you have a 2.5 install and the editor install. Your maps are made, edited and saved in the 2.5 install, this is where RunServer lives (system folder). Make a change to a map, save it, open RunServer, type map name and have a sip of coffee.

Before it was make a change to a map, save it, go to the AA 2.5 System folder, edit runserver.bat with the map name, launch the server, launch AA, type "open 127.0.0.1" in the console and wait. Doing all those steps is fine a couple of times but after a while it's so tedious and really pissed me off :)
