mAAp Project / 2.5 Editor
« on: Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 13:09:11 PM »
This is an open discussion about making the UnrealEd map editor that we have which happens to work for 2.5. For those that don't know, it's not an official editor, it's actually version 2.4.1 but it works for 2.5 as well.

These are the pros and cons I can think of, others will be added later:

Pros:
- Building a better community with the draw of custom missions.
- More diverse & creative maps.

Cons:
- Setting up a sub forum or another website for managing maps, where people can vote on them and people can see them.
- People complaining if their map doesn't make it into Assist.
- Packing the editor into a download that can be extracted and run with minimal hassle. The editor we have has many quirks. There are different packages and package names which would have to be gone through and changed to avoid bug reports.
- Answering the same "how do i" or "wtf is this" questions over and over again.
- Players that create maps that don't make it into Assist will fight back and put maps on their server anyway. Custom maps (.aao files in the Maps folder) are technically grounds for a permanent ban. We don't know if it's a hack or a map.
- Legal issues. This software is copyright and it's an expensive license. It's possible that lawyers could be contacted.
- This isn't just a map editor, it's a code editor and debugger. This could be used for developing hacks.

Plus, you could have the greatest internet in the world but if you use Wi-Fi on it, you might be bordering on range which would add latency, packet loss and jitter.

Good work. We really do need to have more site news. I think I'm going to write up a post for the improved server list.

I just now looked at your screenshots. Looks like your Night Eyes map gives my Shipment a run for it's money :)

How about you hang around here a bit more. We do have a 2.8>2.5 converter...

*EDIT*
Possessed, 7zipped it's 336MB, uncompressed it's closed to 1GB.

I submitted the Facebook page for deletion, did you cancel it? If so, good man! With Brussels having backed out, I would have hated to see the AAO25 one disappear right after getting started.

Why should others be graced with my presence? It is up to others to fill Spanky's Fun Place.

Sounds good. Ganja PM'd me earlier today and was wondering how he could contribute. Maybe he's our media guy and tests maps out, posts news (aside from your TNF which you can keep posting) and things like that.

I say a post every week. It's automatically sent to Twitter so anybody following (and not necessarily a member of this forum) can see it. Sometimes people need a little reminder. I wish we had other news to post but this is all we have. Keep it up I say.

Ha, thanks. The bike is a Honda CT90. Great vintage bike, lightweight, sips gas and you can easily find them under $1k.

nate is a hxc biker

I've got a project bike going in my spare time:

Haven't put but 2 miles on it but I've dropped $400 into it in the last 10 months. It's running pretty decent but I may get a new aftermarket carb to fix a few issues. Then comes tires and lights and it'll be a good rider.

Good idea Sergio. I back this 100%, not because Ronny is warned but because this is something that needs to happen to make these forums a better place.

Well.... he could mess with MD5 checks

Look at that! I said could. Do you know what could means Ronny? I didn't say that you probably did or that I know you did, I said you could have. One of these days you'll have an appreciation for basic education.
