It could be done on the web or in Assist itself but the main problem is that Assist doesn't support external protocols yet. Until it does... not much any of us can do.

With that said, maybe someone could explain to me how a randomized 4v4 is better than random players in a full server? Logic tells me, you're wanting to take longer to get into the game AND play with less people. Why?

I made one, check it out here:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AAO25

I'm going to take a look and see if there's some automatic way to add Assist to Steam.

*EDIT*
Should we try to submit Assist to Steam, even though it technically uses copyrighted content?

add a 25Assist:// protocol
edit, that protocol will open assist & assist will auth the player

That would be a good way to do it, that way it still uses Assist instead of allowing 3rd party programs to bypass hardware ID bans and other protection. Unfortunately, this has to be coded in Assist so we have to wait for Pit to see this and give some feedback.

Instead of implementing it into Assist do you think you could make a web based thing on AAO25 that does the same thing?

I could easily make a web based thing. I built the shoutbox (backend, Jared made it pretty) and the server list page. Problem is, joining a server. Assist does extra communications that weren't done before. Before you could just go like armyops://64.126.161.69?pass=blah or something. But now there's extra talk to the Auth server and without that, you couldn't join any server that runs on auth.

There COULD be a way to do it but I don't know enough about Assist to rummage through the source code to find out how to build an extension for it. I don't see why Jonny would have implemented such a feature to authenticate outside of Assist though.

More and more people getting the editor means exponential chances of a leak. We can remove the converter tools from the thread easily and nobody will know different. We can then say, make your map on 2.8 and we'll convert it and include it if it's good enough (votes by community or admin).

I just... it's been fine dealing with Killa and Max, I really don't mind helping you guys because it's obvious that you enjoy it and take what you've learned and apply it. But, I just know there's going to be a shit storm of noob questions over and over and over if the editor goes public. Not to mention we have to handle the map kicks appropriately. Technically people should be banned for custom maps because they could easily be hacks.

First one is:
cl1ckftw+
reCkless.dave^
SPR
;cl1ck+
reckless;cl1ck_

Second one is:
vexx.ejr^
RedJohn
reCkless.vexx^

I think it's quite amusing actually. You have fans :) You could turn around and make reCkless.namechanger^ though it might not fit.

Ceiling fans of death would be nice in the offices. I know there's several here that have a special place in their heart for the one on Pipeline. It has a tendency to attract bunny hoppers.

It's in the mAAp forum somewhere, maybe that converter sticky thread.

Let me see if I get this;
You're wanting a chatroom where once there's 8 people, teams are generated and you get sent in-game to a passworded server?

The only person that could implement something into Assist is Pit. Assist as it is doesn't have a way (as far as I know, due to the new Auth) to externally launch the game, authenticate properly and join a server. You would have to actually launch Assist and join the PUG server like you would any other server.

the editor would be made public to anyone who wants it.

That's what I'm hesitant about. The editor would have to be repackaged because it has a lot of problems as-is. If it were made public, anybody could make a map and stick it in their server. It really would need to be organized. I haven't tested the converter out very much, maybe it would just be easier to have people use 2.8...

Easier talking than typing but you want a text-based chat? TS3 is a good example that I forgot in my last post.

Anyway, I'll leave this to those that understand what pugs is.

Yea, pretty much something like that. There has to be some kind of incentive for people to want their map included in mAAp, downloaded via Assist rather than noob servers running noob maps. This would have to be something that would take a lot of planning.

I don't understand any of this but what's so bad about using the shoutbox or creating a forum thread or using MSN, X-Fire, Steam, AIM, YIM, GTalk, etc?
