It's the hues. I just recently started messing with the ZoneInfo hue & saturation, it makes a WORLD of difference. Since this isn't the mAAp Pipe thread, I'll post screenshots over there and link here:

Messing with hue and saturation in ZoneInfo really makes areas come alive:

Grey and flat looking break room:

Bright sunlit yet dusty/hazy north pump room:

Dark and dirty yet detailed exterior:

Very dramatic, dark, red-only tunnels:

Bright orange morning sunlight outside:

Dramatic fluorescent-lit yellowish bathroom:

But that's awesome. It adds a realistic dynamic to the game that hasn't existed in the past.

Thanks :) I think it looks better than the previous grass:

A bit more... detailed, not just a dark green color. It'll be interesting to see how people use it for cover.

Yeah it might be twice as big as mAAP Pipeline but I get 4x the performance on it. :P

 :suck: :wanker:

I think mine looks 4x better though so it evens out  :style:

The maps compress quite well. Contingency was around 60MB but came down to under 12 or so when I downloaded it if I recall right. There was a LOT of useless maps in v4.5. It's nice to see this upcoming release have many quality maps without having bloat. Look at any modern games' DLC, you won't find anything that's under 100MB :D

Your computer sounds like a laptop. Your CPU running at 2GHz might be part of the issue since AA only uses 1 core, the faster the core runs, the better. There also might be overheating, driver, throttling or other issues. Make sure everything is updated, that's free and only take a bit of time then you can look at temperatures. There's tons of threads here about that.

General Chat / Re: Assist server browser

I never said anything before but for me, on the main startup page of Assist, it pings the auth server. Most always for me it has to ping it twice resulting in a 3000-4000ms (course, now I just started Assist 3 times and it was all under 600ms). Even with this, I wouldn't describe the server browser as slow to me. It's a lot of data to handle. Look at the server list I coded at the top of this page. When there's 200+ players, it takes a good 6-7 seconds for a super-fast web server to handle that data. Granted, my code probably isn't optimized but still, handling data takes time.

I'd like to see what players prone in the grass look like too opfor. This brings a very COD4ish aspect to the game where one could hide in high grass. Interesting.

Here you go:

I've removed about 100,000 polygons in terrain foliage. Even on full settings with forced 16x anti-aliasing, I'm getting 25-30FPS at 720p with my ancient 8600GT 256MB graphics card. This map should be quite playable. Even with onboard graphics, going inside the building, FPS just climbs sky high.

What about old Pipeline delete in incoming update?
As ELiZ said, no original maps are getting deleted. This is off-topic but Urban Assault, Hospital, Tunnel and original Pipeline are getting a few bugs fixed and a few lighting tweaks. No sounds, objects or anything critical to gameplay has been altered.

Wow lol, still 60MB :) I don't think it matters a whole lot though. If you think of 60MB of lightmap textures (which it isn't), that's nothing on a modern graphics card's memory.

Since I haven't commented on your map yet, it's a real badass. It's like Weapons Cache on steroids. Very good job done on it.

*EDIT*
Also, out of curiosity, I packed the update (on top of the unedited files from the previous version) and it's 40kb shy of being the 2nd largest mAAp release yes. v4.5 was a sheer pig (had 5 variations of Bridge). It was before Assist came around and included a bunch of extra stuff. This upcoming release will be the largest one ever in Assist.

I worked on some new grass today:

Looks better in-game than on YouTube, oh well.

Will the flashes change?

This update/thread is regarding maps only. I realize Possessed made a modification to adjust flashes but it should be addressed in another thread.

Ok with you guys if I make the 7.19Beta Windows and Linux only?

I don't have anything against that. The majority play on Windows anyway :)

Killa, can you try it again with v4? The only reason I could see for that would be either terrain or decolayers...

There was an FPS problem? I guess I haven't looked at it in a while...

Sounds perfect!

I agree. In my experience with prior releases, there are many bugs that come out with real gameplay, it's just the nature of the beast. Having a beta allows us to check for that and make final tweaks for a full version that people use for quite a while.

I might release my jungle map if I can get a couple things done on Pipeline in time.

Feel free to update, I just added them since it wasn't done yet.
I'll use the dropbox version when the deadline expires

To be fair, I was too lazy to do it myself anyway :) Something's better than nothing!

Thanks for doing this update, it's not just me but Killa, Max and Koden that have quite a bit of effort & time into the updates.

I think your timeline sounds pretty good. Is there going to be a beta or just a straight release and then maybe a followup release to fix any bugs like a week later or something?
