Bug Reports / Assist Server Issue
« on: Wednesday, December 26, 2012, 17:05:36 PM »
For the first time on this install I went to the server tab, it downloaded all the goodies then I went to the settings. That screen took forever to come up, each of the boxes came up one at a time. Probably took a good 5-10 seconds for the whole screen to show up. Checking of the boxes was laggy as well. Then I checked and unchecked Disable mAAp TeamView and it crashed:

Looks epic, Spanky! The only issue I've ever had with this map was being able to shoot at assault spawn through certain windows (which greatly favors defense). Have you done anything about those?

Yea, I've removed that break room window and the others at break room stairs are too tall to shoot through. There's a few other windows that I've removed as well which seems to help FPS.

Well, I think this is it. The mAAp beta is right around the corner and I can't think of much else to do on Pipeline. I thought I would go back and edit up the comparison I made almost a year ago and add this new version to it:

Obviously not a whole lot changed outside, except for the sky. I did go through and optimize things as much as I can and implemented detail scaling. Right now, on full settings at 1680x1050 FPS is above 55 pretty much everywhere. That's as good as it's going to get I think without sacrificing detail.

Nah, sorry I was a bit unclear.
It is still planned for the 27:Th, so about 36 hours from now.
That is the deadline for updates to make it into the Beta.

Great. I've been feeling a bit procrastinate tonight though I got some pointless things done on Pipeline :)

I'll start with packaging the content of the dropbox at 14:00 (CET).
Hopefully a Beta download will be availible later in the day.

That just confuses me... it's the 25th here. As far as I can tell, it's 3:20am on the 26th in CET... you're talking about a 2PM CET release? So... 12 hours from now essentially?

I think Ganja and Pit have/had the only worthwhile replies in this thread.

Christmas is a religion-based holiday. If you don't celebrate the religious aspect then you're not celebrating the holiday.

I also firmly believe that showing people you appreciate them by giving gifts once a year is pretty stupid. If you really appreciate someone then you shouldn't have to wait to give them something. Being spontaneous and unexpected means much more and it also shows that person that you truly thought about them instead of instead of being forced into tradition and doing the same boring thing that everyone else does.

As far as family, I believe that just because you're related (aren't we all to some degree?) doesn't mean that you have to like them or be forced to spend time with them. I know I'm not the only person that think that you can have friends that are much closer than your family could be. Family means nothing, it's like being neighbors. Another forced relationship. On the other hand, if you care about your family and want to spend time with them, why wait until a holiday when everybody else in the world is running around in a rat race to do the same thing?

TL;DR: Why wait for a once-a-year holiday to show someone you appreciate them or spend time with people?

27th should be fine with me. I would like to get my Jungle map out there but, it needs some work. I just wanted to verify that the 27th was indeed the deadline so I can give myself a swift kick in the ass :)

Are we for sure putting out a beta on the 27th? Is that what was decided?

Normal, regular days. Nothing special, nothing interesting.

I wasn't going to say it but since tidididi already did, I'll just quote it. Not everybody celebrates Christmas, that's why it's always best to say "Happy Holidays" because nobody can deny that there are holidays this time of year :)

EDIT: wow there actually is. I'm not sure why they put it in a daytime map...
I'll get rid of it.

Every bit of it looks fun to play, are all the flammable-marked barrels in north pump explosive? That would be a wannabe terrorist dream  :style:
No they aren't. A while back me and Blue worked on exploding barrels but it requires coding to create effects that spawn server-side (and replicated to all clients) to make the barrels work. Also, I'm having a hard time getting ViewShaker to work... it's hidden somewhere in Pipeline, I don't want to give it away :)

mAAp Project / Re: Suggestion about maps
« on: Sunday, December 23, 2012, 17:26:18 PM »
Jared's brought this up a few times as well, though his opinion was to delete all the original maps and only have a few of the perfected mAAp maps available.

I agree that trimming is great (which is why we no longer have as many mAAp maps as we did) but if we start messing with the original gameplay & content, the users will rage and I don't want to be on the receiving end of that (not that I would since I'm not admin anymore).

*EDIT*
I think something that isn't so radical is maybe somehow nudge people to try/play other maps instead of Bridge, Pipe, Urban and Hospital. The only way I can think of doing that is to reduce player slots to like 4v4 or something in those maps :)

That would be an issue querying the server then.
