Server Support / Re: Couple of server questions
« on: Saturday, December 29, 2012, 16:44:07 PM »
heh been around from 2004, but been also missing for last umm, lets say two or three years when quit americas army mentor project and turned to part time GSP.  thats also the reason why im interested in fine tuning systems, cause like said, in 2002 some things werent there :)

Welcome back then :) Your name somewhat rings a bell, now that you've changed your avatar.

I think Assist creates some ini files but there's got to be a way for you to alter them. Or, ELiZ can create a custom server build for you to play around with I'm sure.

Yea, I've always wanted to do that but to do it properly... pain in the ass. The problems would be:

- Getting straight-down, aligned image with no rotation (could be done with locked AGP_Viewport)
- Removing roofs on all buildings to be able to see inside (Invisible surface flag)
- Disabling fog (removing fog from ZoneInfo)
- The usual Anti-Aliasing and eye-candy forced
- Larger T-Maps size

But, I'm just a perfectionist...

Ban Appeals / Re: Ban for ServerMOD using?

Does anyone else find it funny when this happens and these people come to the forum and pretend like it's no big deal to scam/cheat more points? I mean, ultimately, it's just a game and who gives a fuck but really, how sad do you have to be to want a bigger number on a dead website for a 10 year old game?

It just boggles the mind as to why people can't play fair.

No offense but I somehow missed all the old well-known classic players despite having been around AA for 7-8 years or so. My apologies if I don't know who you are :)

I'll get right to my point, I remember being admin of servers and trying different tweaks and there was a bunch we would always install but I honestly don't remember them doing anything. I can't recall any tweak client or server-side that did any noticeable amount of improvement, aside from the settings already available in the AA menu. So, that's why I said, if you do a bit of research and can find tweaks that actually improve things on varying hardware, I see no reason why they wouldn't be used globally in Assist.

Assist supports 30 players and we've updated some maps to support 32. Having more efficient network settings that better use the faster speeds we have now (as opposed to those used in 2002...) then that would be great.

I think if you can prove that tweaking gives better server performance then the tweaks could be added into Assist permanently.

Bug Reports / Re: Working with Os X system & VirtualBox

Perhaps you need to update Ubuntu. Your issue is with OpenGL which might point to your graphics card... beyond that, I don't know enough about Ubuntu to help.

my first feedback is about Square:
nice to see that map with 32 player slots :). also good to see that side changes will not give anymore honor points. and the problem with the ladders is also gone i guess.

some points to watch at:
- if you go from middle tower at computer-room one level higher to 2nd floor, you can see at the stairs for a while
  the sky.  http://postimage.org/image/pd7jp47ht/
this is not good and should be checked/corrected.
- it is not possible anymore to walk on the small wall headers (for example at the balcony, where the clothes are put
on the lines to dry or on the upper stairs at the black whole). thats a pitty. wished to be back as it was before if
  possible.

Stairs issue is fixed, pretty easy :)
You're probably talking about the ledges, that's a glitch and I removed that. It's not realistic to walk out on a 4 inch ledge and be able to crouch and fire. Plus you can get to areas that are unfair.

Thanks for reporting!

Looking over the posts, I'm thinking most if not all the bugs have been sorted out. This is going quite well.

General Chat / Re: Re-downloading america's army everytime i close 25assist.

I would guess that Assist isn't able to create a settings file. Maybe try to delete Assist entirely and re-download the program. That or use another location for installing. This is all covered in the FAQ.

I think I fixed Breakout's issues. The map isn't that great of a build so it's hard to fix things without redoing most of it.

Scratch it off the list!

Pool Day:

-Critical error occurs every time a grenade comes into contact with any water

I just removed the water in the pool. It didn't serve much purpose anyway, especially being as low as it was. Later on I might re-add water and a physics volume for shits and giggles. I also removed a stray playerstart.

Sounds like Killa didn't make ladders properly :) You have to use a playerblock to set you away from the ladder mesh then extend up past the top of the ladder as high as the player is tall (probably anything more than 64 is good).

For the opfor sounds, I'm hoping I can get someone to piss themselves in fear :)

Which windows and what objects? If you're talking about the lights in the warehouses, I put player blocks around them so people could jump on them.

I have no idea where :D There's windows just above an outside eating area. You can break them and jump down 2 stories and land on various things.
