Games from this era are not multi-threaded and thus won't take advantage of more than one core/thread.
So if that is the usage of your entire modern CPU, then you'll find that AA only runs on one of those threads. And if what it's doing is saturating that thread, I could wager a guess that you have a 16 thread CPU.
As for MSI Afterburner, I've got no idea. The actual error might help, though.

From discord I gather this is your current issue:
We managed to work this out in the end.
It turned our the issue was that that antivirus was blocking 25Assist.
The antivirus in this instance was Bitdefender.
Adding "master.dl.sourceforge.net" to exclusions fixed the issue.

I have tried that but i get the below message from the 25assist client
" Your account has been set-up OK, you will now have to wait for a 2.5Assist Admin to activate your account, An email has been sent to the assist admin team, they will activate your account as soon as possible. Please try again in a few hours. See aa025.com for help"
And I've activated it.

Hey eveyone!
Just a reminder to all of you that we're still here.
And we've been seeing more activity due to (generally unfortunate) pandemic.
Small updates to the forums:

And we've been seeing more activity due to (generally unfortunate) pandemic.
Small updates to the forums:
- You'll notice there's the "Assist Account" tab on the top of the page now. This is where you get links to
- Register a new account
- Change account name
- Reset account password
- The above mentioned pages were made to all look alike
- Previously they were different (some were more basic)
- MacOS Catalina (and newer) does not support 32bit applications
- Assist is a 32bit application and thus will not work on newer MacOS versions
- Extremely unlikely to ever change
- There's a message about this in the Downloads menu
- You'll need to hover over either the link or the 'Check OS compatibility' message to see the full explenation
