Reason is, 2.8.5 maps are encrypted and AA 2.5 doesn't know how to read that stuff so all the regular map information is like, in another language and it crashes because it doesn't understand.
I know, that's why ELiZ made the converter. Because of that in order to play/test a map made for 2.8.5 you need to use that version of the game (or the equivalent editor).

That's what I did.
Went to start-> typed in ArmyOps.exe, found the version in Assist, opened that folder, went up a folder and dropped in Maps, then ran ArmyOps.exe and used the 'open' command.  'start OBT' doesn't work either
That's exactly what I said you SHOULDN'T do. Assist runs on 2.5, but what I said was to use 2.8.5.

He might, in theory, be a genuinely new player.
I remember a friend of mine started playing this game and then when he once changed sides, he killed all the friendlies, because they looked like the friendlies had looked on the other team, so he assumed they would now be enemies.

Did you run it on 2.8.5? Because that's the version it was made for and that's the one it will work on.

And I don't think opening maps 'with' armyops.exe has ever worked. What you need to do is start armyops.exe and when it's loaded type

From reading the other thread he posted it seemed like he's moving the game after it's downloaded (not sure though, his English isn't the greatest).

If so, this could definitely cause some problems.

I say green because it takes both teams time to get there and they could be ambushed/flanked easier. You don't want the objectives close to spawn so each team gets one within 20 seconds of round start and then it's just a standstill in the middle of the map. You should have to fight and push your way through.
That's the reason I tried to think of 2 possibilities. It depends on whether we wan't to do it like 'hold you obj and hope you get the enemies' or 'fight to get one, then think about the other'.
Another variant could even be where it would be equally hard for both teams to get either objective, but I couldn't think of a way to place objectives to make it so.

And I also want to add that these are just my suggestions. While I have nothing against having one of those as the layout, I think someone else could also give a fresh layout with a different feeling, then the community could vote on which to keep. (Although such a vote would be extremely hard to do inside Assist I guess).

I would go with red honestly.
It's just my thought/examples of what it could be, nothing is set in stone and you can offer your own proposition as well.

I know, right now you could do whatever you guys wanted, but for me it just feels like it's good to let it be like it is right now (US military get a one-size-fits-all icon). Just because it was still who made this game a reality.

But it's just my opinion.

I'm pretty sure it's reserved for people in the US military as that's who payed for the development of the game.
