Not sure what to think about this. I think you'd have to consider the custom maps deal and what to do if someone were to run a map that's not "in" Assist. Of course, the mac & linux support would be gone too. Less mods/no would be nice but the modern hacks would still work. Tough call IMO.

That's actually HL2 mod called Cinematic Mod which uses an updated engine and a lot of tricks to get desired effects.

AI does exist in 2.5. There's a couple issues though;
- The code for AI isn't as advanced as 2.8.
- The editor we have for 2.5 is technically 2.4.1 and has even LESS code than what's in 2.5. We can make maps but a lot of the features are missing/broken like carryable objectives. Behavior and options that exist in 2.4.1 might do something entirely different or nothing at all in 2.5.
- I have personally tried Hospital as a Co-Op map by adding AI and removing a team. Although the AI was dumb (guy walked off a roof), it worked except the round never ended. I don't have that map anymore to experiment.

It's basically really difficult to get it to work at all and it may not be possible without coding. It's vast amounts of effort that nobody wants to put in anymore.

IPs are in ranges. Mine is 64.126.x.x it will never be 98.154.x.x. Since modems only hold one IP at a time, you couldn't have multiple accounts on at the same time. I doubt LANs are done much for AA so that wouldn't be an issue. What could be done is log the most recent IP and if another account matches it, deny it. That way you always have an updated IP. Sure, it's a lot of work to implement but let's face it, it never will be implemented :) Just ramblings from me.

What would be nifty if you guys took over auth from BT is to limit 1 account per IP. That would fuck over quite a few people like those stats whores with idle computers.

Shad, that's the problem. Very few are willing to be the ones that go sit in a server and wait for people to join. Then people do join and it's rare that they stay since it takes a while for a server to get balanced out. Same thing has been going on for years.

You're right. I bet the defense research guys absolutely hate the idea of infantry seeing locations of friendlies and objectives/targets in real time on miniature displays. It would also be stupid to share that information with other branches of military to avoid friendly casualties when support is sent in. Fucking unrealistic.

An update to stop server admins using mods would be good

For a proper SAI(where you can report enemies) server must be involved to replicate data beween clients, is that easy to do?
I have only done client side scripting, never used replication.

I dabbled in replication with the physics mod (seen on PBall). It's not rocket science but it is tricky.
