You sure it only crashes if with colors or special chars? I'm always getting a critical after each tournament on a server without those...

Exactly, we also have similiar issues (CEs, kicks), even with no colors or mods.

Has anyone managed to run assist-based server in tournament mode without any problems? Or is it no supported?

[...] Jonny will have to unblock servers or raise the max request amount.

Whitelist is not the way to go, as it should be possible to create tracker by anyone. Limits are necessary to prevent DOS. Therefore we should just extend query functionality, so that's its possible to create tracker without spamming the master server. First thing to do is possibility to query more players at once (or maybe its already possible by multiplicating the query string, i don't know).

I'll take care of this, just give me a little time to get acquainted with new stuff.

Jonny has just given me access to lots of stuff, so I consider the hand-over as complete. Thank you all for the trust - I can assure you I will rule the assist with wisdom and responsibility. I won't fail you.

My first decisions are:

1. I change my nickname to "His_Majesty_PIT-23". Calling me any other way (e.g. simply "pit") will result in a BAN.
2. I change my honor to 1000. Everyone else is limited to 110 (ok, to 120, I'm generous).
3. I assign myself a special in-game icon. I still haven't decided, but I will choose from one of those: http://www.google.pl/search?q=crown+icon&hl=pl&client=firefox-a&hs=tC0&rls=org.mozilla:pl:official&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ZvKST4rIIen64QS-rcDQDw&ved=0CCcQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=785&sei=bPKST5-3PMTOsgauoP3EBA
4. Killing me in game (or even flashing) will result in a BAN.
5. Failing to die when I shoot at someone will result in a BAN.
6. It will be _legal_ for me (and only me) to use god mode hack, when I feel like it. (Note that rules 4 and 5 are still necessary, cause I suck even in god mode...)

General Chat / SMF: user registration and bots
« on: Saturday, April 21, 2012, 13:10:54 PM »
I have the following problem with our SMF-based forum, which I couldn't solve by quick googling.

There are a lot of bots which register even though the image verification is enabled. Because of this we turned on manual acceptation of new users, but that is pain in the ass.

Does anyone know the solution?

Relax guys, this is not presidential campaign :-D, there is not much sense in choosing between me, Sergio or whoever. I'll do my stuff (coding + running auth server if needed), Sergio will do his (hunting for bad guys), others will do theirs, and everything will be just fine.

And I completely agree with Sergio - going down is not an option.

No English button on the site?

Unfortunately not, although the threads to which I pointed contain english translation. If you need any help let me know.

Currently it is hosted on a VPS at a hosting company, Usage is around 1% so it is a very small load. [...]

So it's not running on this one http://aao25.com/2-5-assist/new-beast-server/msg10139/#msg10139 anymore? That would clarify my doubts.

[...] it will have enough credit on it to run for 3 or 4 months, when the credit runs out then you can move it to another server [...]

Great, during that time I can familiarize with it, and also setup a second instance in advance.

Since this is quite a significant event, I think it would be good to see what we can each contribute to the project to keep it going.

Personally I'm mostly interested in coding, and that's the area where I can contribute most.

Hosting the server at CFC (Chicken Farm) is another possibility, but that's really up to the CFC owner (I don't own it, I just help to keep it running).

There's a thread here where he bought himself a 4-CPU 2UU rackmount server and ran it out of his shed then moved it to a datacenter (centre :D) for Assist. The game servers aren't required but the master server and web server is.

Hmm, maybe I'm missing something, but I'd expect such machine to mosly idle when running the auth/master server + website, which handles the amount of clients we have in AA2.5 community (i.e. low).

I think Jonny just bought himself a rig to play BF3, and the whole assist thing is just a smoke screen ;-DDD.

But seriously, it would be much easier and practical to move just the software, not the whole box.

In the meantime I will talk to the guy who owns all the stuff at my place (Chicken Farm), to check what are the possibilities.
