General Chat / Re: Battletracker player rank issue
« on: Saturday, December 29, 2012, 14:49:50 PM »
If i understand you right, then it really could be a reason. A while ago i started playing on new maps, like Bridge Crossing, UA, Weapons Cache or Insurgent Camp. My goal was to raise my playerrank from major to the next rank, but i had a really bad fr/ratio on these 'new' maps, compared to my usual fr/ratio from the old and familiar maps. My average frrate sank from 2.12-.13 to 2.10 right now, only because i played on these maps recently.

Agree 100%! But if they are all afk i doesn't make sense to loose a playerrank all of a sudden. That's really strange..

General Chat / Battletracker player rank issue
« on: Saturday, December 29, 2012, 12:05:22 PM »
Just recently, i started to play maps which i haven't played before in old AA2.8.5 versions. I wanted to gain the next battletracker rank. I have been Major, but then all of a sudden my bt-playerrank got set even back to Captain. Back then, this occured only when new maps had been integrated into battletracker. Now, i can't see any new maps being integrated into bt, despite of the fact that the bt admins are afk for months. That makes it even more curious why i've lost a player rank. Is anyone experiencing the same problem or can clarify this?

Server Support / Re: how do i get this logo on server 3
« on: Thursday, December 27, 2012, 09:10:30 AM »
I think he have some custom mod on his server, ultimate have that logo adder

From all that i know of PUF servers, they are modded and allow lower gravity so that you can jump higher (what i personally will never ever understand, since we are playing aao and not UT or CS).

@Vanoke

One of your servers are running on Border. There is still a good Border community out there and playing on your server, but PLEASE stop these gravity mod, it's destroying the classic Border gameplay. Not to mention that you play with SF slots. Sometimes i ask myself why you need to setup a Border server with SF guns and low gravity aka moon jumps? Is the game for you guys easier like this? Come on, keep it classic!

Hardware/Software / Re: Get the most out of your computer sound
« on: Thursday, December 27, 2012, 07:41:55 AM »
I think the reason your new headphones' ambient and gunfire is too loud is because of the headphones' own integrated sound chip. While x-Fi has SVM (don't remember what it stands for) in the drivers, which pretty much cuts down the maximum noise when there's a lot of it, but I'm guessing your p531 doesn't have that option (or you haven't enabled it). Since the p531 has its own sound chip, it doesn't go through your x-Fi card and the options you use there don't make any difference.

And I don't know anything about modern/good headphones.

I used to have Medusas as well, but Spanky said they're crap (pretty much). I believe him, but I don't have money for an amp + good pair of headphones anyway.

I didn't make clear that i'm not using my x-fi card atm for gaming. An exception is when i listen to music or for watching movies with my creative 7.1 surround system. The Arctic P531 is connected via usb and that's what im using for gaming most of the time. I was refering to a headset/headphones which can be attached to my soundcard via cinch (or however it is called). From what i've read today in the other thread on that topic i think the best choice for a decent price are the AD700 from Audio Technica, but they still cost around 130€. That is pretty much but still okayish. Is there anything recommendable (50-100€) below this price in combo with my x-fi extreme gamer soundcard ?

I'm very interested in good sound quality while gaming. I mostly play with headphones, because the aao sounds can really be loud and i don't want to get on the nerves of my neighbours.
I've used for quite some time the 5.1 Speedlink Medusa Surround headset and variants of it and connected it with my creative x-fi extreme gamer soundcard. I was quite content with that configuration. A while ago, for a year or l a bit longer, i switched over to the arctic p531 headset which is connected via usb and has an integrated surround chip, up to 7.1 if i'm not wrong. I'm quite happy with that headset too. Positioning works well, but footsteps are a bit too quite and overall ambient and gunfire sounds too loud. I haven't played with the EQ settings yet, maybe i will give it a try. But, what headphones can you really suggest if you already own an x-fi card? I haven't heard fo these audio technica products yet. I'd appreciate it, if you can give me some tips on up-to-date gaming headphones wthin a price range of 50-150€. Either if it's from audio-technica or other companies

yesterday I removed this cvars OLNY, period.
BUT , it will only be removed on servers that have had a restart(read stopped on assist client/ ded. server) since I changed it.

looks like some  AA players don't know how to remove their binds / change their keys or even dont know what the kick is about :/

Does that mean, that you can bind altfire with mousewheel again?

Balestra, I saw on IE that your signature was incorrect, I fixed it. hope u wanted it to be lol;

Dunno what you are talking about since i don't use IE, but if it was for a good reason, why not.

I can't report something like the things some of you mentioned. I'm still enjoying the game and don't get bored at all. Yea, our player community is small, but that doesn't mean that every round is the same than the round before, that's just not possible. It may happen that certain players behave in a certain way on certain mapy, but that has always been the case. Trying to find workarounds or counter tactics is what still evolve the game.

This may seam an inconvenience for some but the point was they needed to get the command Fire off the scroll to stop the single shot noobs using it as an auto for less recoil simple as that.

Yes if you have a mouse that does macros you could set that to use another key as a fire button, nothing can control that but at least they are making an attempt to equal the playing field.

With my suggestion you don't need to make a macro. Just play with the default AA2 ingame control settings for altfire 'Z' and supported/203 'H'. Then assign on your 4-way mousewheel the right mousewheel button with the letter H (to tick to the left) and the left mousewheel button (to tick it to the right) with the letter Z.

I'd suggest to change the 390 into 250 which is approximatley the highest ammount of players we got ....

I think that the player amount being online every day (600) on the poster is the bigger problem  :hihih:

Like i've said earlier. If you have a 4-way mousewheel you can make use of it and it will be pretty much the same, imo even better. Back then and until v7.14 was released and blocked these settings i had put Z on left mousewheel click (also cooking nades) and H for supported/203 on the right mousewheel, that means i had to make a scroll movement from mid-top for altfire/nade cooking and a a scroll movement from mid to down for supported/203.
Depending on your mousewheelscroll characteristics it could possibly happen that you make more scrolls than neccessary.

With my current mouse configuration i just tick the mousewheel to left(Z) or right(H). These are even smaller movements if you compare it to my 'before-v7.14 mouse configuration', especially if you have messy mouse(scroll)wheel.

I like it and i recommend it if you want an alternative key binding configured solely on your mouse instead of keyboard bindings.

I can understand most of you since i've had altfire on mousewheel up, supported/203 on mousewheeldown and reload on middle mouse click. I've done so, because i'm not a touch typing system user. Generally, i've always to have a slight look on my keyboard before pressing a key. That's what i didn't want to do during gaming, because every single look on your keyboard while being on a server in a game session can make a huge difference between death/survival. So i've sticked to the before mentioned mouse configuration. But, i have found a good alternative, all you need is a mouse with a 4-way mousewheel. I've assigned the keys 'z' to left mousewheel and 'h' to right mousewheel, reload is stil on middle mouse click in my mouse settings. I can tell that it works pretty well.

News / Re: 25Assist v7.14 has been released!!!!
« on: Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 05:21:22 AM »
Hi all,
i am a web marketing analyst (and also an Italian America's Army old player)
i know is a little bit off-topic but, i tryed to know why "America's Army 2 nostalgic players" don't want play AA2.5 Assist..

  • 1st: there is not a competitive community (Italian community in particular)
  • 2nd: there are few players
  • 3rd: players play always the same maps (bridge crossing and Hospital)

these are the "problems" for them. I also asked if they found a free game like AA, and all the people says: "NO".

40% of them now are playing Battlefield 3
25% are playing other multiplayer games (not only FPS)
35% are no playing multiplayer games

The solution is (not simple) "CREATE A SOLID INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY"... How is the problem, we need something to "touch nostalgic players feelings and interest".

Another question is: "Can someone contact the old AAO developers (Virtual Heroes Studios) to create again a FPS like AAO2, maybe using the same source code?

(sorry for my bad eng)

I hope AAO 2 (AA2.5Assist) will return the most played game.

Hi kaledo, sounds quite interesting what you have analyzed. If i understand it correctly (referring to your points 1.-3.) then the italian ex-AA2 players won't play AA25, because there is no competitive community anymore, because there are too few players currently playing AA25 and too little servers (mostly Bridge, SF Hospital).

If i got that right i would answer, that those players who are playing AA25 now are mostly competitive, because that are the players most dedicated to the game. Most of them/us are game veterans who know/play the game for years. If i join a server today on AA25 i still have the feeling like playing AA2 to old way, like back in the times when i played v2.8.5. It's not that there is no challenge at all and noobs all around, there is still competition!Today maybe even more than before AA25, because those players who are playing now are kinda map whores. I like it.

To 2.) If ex-players complain that there are too few players playing AA25 then i would say to them: if any veteran AA-player would think like this, then AA2 would be dead today. What we need instead are players who give AA25 a try, actually we could need every single ex-player. That's the only way how we can keep up the game, and laying back doing nothing than complaining won't change anything. I'm glad that i'm one of those 200-300 players who are still attached to the game and keep it alive, but i would have nothing against more players coming back ofc. And that leads to your third point. The more players the more servers/maps we can fill and play. Imo those players judging from a distance that aa25 has too few players/servers should stop complaining and come back instead, because with each single player we can offer more and keep up a vital AA2-community, never as big as in ou best times, but enough to have every day/night some good playing sessions on at least 5-10 filled mapservers. The more players willing to come back, the better it would be.

If you are in contact with ex-players (what i assume when you've made a poll like this), tell them that there is still a vital, competitive AA community playing AA25 and that all we need are players willing to come back - simple as that.
