Server Support / Re: Server - CacheSizeMegs=?
« on: Saturday, March 22, 2014, 15:31:57 PM »
It's going on 9 years now since I've learned that increasing cachesizemegs generally degrades performance, and that reducing it is much more likely to increase performance (if you're coming from it being increased). I've had it at '1' for quite some time. The first time I noticed this, it was VERY noticeable, especially coming from cachesizemegs being set to 1024/512, etc.

As for tickrate, we valued this dearly back in the days of intense competition, money tournaments, etc. We were so obsessed by it that there were server companies (like "velocity servers") who had 100-tick servers. The servers were so damn smooth that playing on them was like heaven, sheer bliss. It all made sense in our competition servers, even when we were killed; we always knew exactly 'why' we died, which was great information to have. lol

One thing that I never realized about tickrate all these years, until recently, after I set up one of these assist servers on my PC, was that it actually DID seem to affect the ping, making it lower for everyone. I'm not entirely sure why it did this, but it did. I'm setting up another server now to do further testing on this and other things.

Well to me there are 2 types of ghosting.
1. Where people in TS are on different teams and one is reporting enemy locations to the other. This is pretty lame and shouldn't be done.

2. Where people in TS are on the same team and when one dies, he reports where he was shot from. I don't really have a problem with this one, although this is the one 99% of the bitching is about. I don't get all the rage. Yeah, I get "dead people don't talk", but this game isn't 100% realism and you could always move from the location you were reported in.

I agree. Not to mention -- dead people don't get to come back. :-o

I'm still quite baffled by the whole "ghosted" phenomenon. I'm quite surprised that we still hear complaints about it, even though it seems as if it barely ever happens, at least to me. Personally, I wish it happened to me more (if it happens to me at all). In fact, I encourage people to ghost me out. For me, it's much better when the enemy comes to me, rather than the other way around, especially if the opfor is camping in some obscure place. "Ghosting" typically prompts people to 'do something' with the precious knowledge they've just received. So they'll make a sound, pull a nade, go for the enemy, or something that usually involves movement, which really helps me.  :style:  MUWWHAHAHAHAAHAHAAAAAAA

Hmmm, I wish I understood the contentiousness in this topic, but I just don't. Why are we angry again? I've read through the topic twice and still cannot see a real reason to be upset. The language filter hasn't stopped me from swearing. Lately, when I've used bad words in the console, it was a kind of spontaneous reaction to something that made me angry, like dying when I felt there was no reason to die. lol -- And after I type the 'bad' word as a quick reflex and see the asterisk, I've been realizing (most of the time) that the swearing was a pointless, useless exercise anyway. So the language filter, believe it or not, hasn't really bothered me since it's been enabled. Oh yeah, and it hasn't prevented me from "ghosting" and "hacking" (aka pwning) either.

If you wanna cuss, put an extra space between the letters in the swear word. And since there's not an endless pool of swear/censored words, it's not difficult to deduce what someone's trying to get across if their message includes the asterisks -- UNLESS they're just being funny and manually typing them in, which is easy to notice (which *single* letter in the alphabet is censored? Anyone?). And even if there is a whole message full of nothing but asterisks (not the manual ones), it won't be an actual sentence anyway, just a bunch of cuss words strung together. So it shouldn't be a big mystery.

Now why are we upset or frustrated again?

Blame the few that exploited those settings.

I'm not sure that everyone realizes exactly why it was rendered untouchable, ELiZ.

The asterisks were definitely manually typed in. Roids, I, and a few others do this. We're saying nothing; it's basically making fun of the language filter.

Exactly! while we are at it, lets stop those people with the AR, all they do is shoot and i hate hearing it over and over.

LMAO, why did I get the distinct impression that you're taking a personal stab at my AR whoring! <3 And I think we've hijacked this thread with our own facetiousness, which is probably a good thing, if you think about it.

I agree no nonesense. We also need to do something about these people who keep spamming the chat with all these kill and death messages. I want to be able to see people talk, who cares about the functionality of the game?

Meanie! lol

But, in fact, I agree. We also need to disable writing in all caps, because it makes my ears hurt really, really bad. I can't stand when people scream in my ear. :-/

I have Report-In binds, and I wish everyone had them, so that everyone can stay on the SAI. That would prevent more TKs. Like someone said, you can't really spam reports, as it stops you from typing for a while. And if there's beeping for you, then goodness gracious; how have you've managed to listen to those beeps all these years (if you've been playing for years)?

General Chat / Re: Video card problem maybe?
« on: Friday, March 07, 2014, 20:19:05 PM »
Nope, it's my mouse-wheel Up. It was another button before I changed it to that, and it still did it. Dang, I wish I knew what was causing it. :-/

And there are no programs like Fraps running, either. :-(

Edit: Okay, so I'm on IC right now, and it looks like it only happens when looking at ANY exterior/outside textures. When I'm inside, it's just fine, but if I look at a window, it'll stutter with NV, or if I come close to any exterior aspect of Insurgent Camp, it'll do this. Hmmmm

Given that finding, it probably does this on more than just IC for me.

General Chat / Video card problem maybe?
« on: Thursday, March 06, 2014, 16:22:19 PM »
So Assist hasn't introduced this problem; it's been happening for quite a while, I believe. Usually, on Insurgent Camp, when I click on my Night Vision, it stutters/pauses. If I keep pressing night vision on and off, it's so 'stuttery' and hitchy that it looks like photos being taken, like a cartoon strip. I've long adjusted my playing to this anomaly, but it'd be awesome if it were not an issue anymore. It doesn't happen on Pipeline. I haven't played many other maps with NV, but I don't think it happens on MOUT -- just Insurgent Camp, from what I can recall.

My video card is the ATI HD Radeon (Sapphire version) 4670 1GB DDR3, new edition. I've tried many drivers, settings, stress tests, and INI tweaks, but perhaps I have the combination of modifications/tweaks wrong. Any ideas? I've tried all the basic stuff, I'd surmise. I have an Intel Quad Core PC, 8GB of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I've also disabled 3 of the cores to see if maybe this night-vision stuttering was the multi-core bug with AA2.

Actually if you look at my last sessions on there server you'll see no kills or death in 43 minutes, and then 22 then 18 minutes.  Really??? This is obviously tracker not registering anything. I mean who is on a server for that much time without at least registering something? And I wasn't in spectating mode. Obviously a bug in tracker.

Regardless, I think a few of you are missing the point. Its not whether or not I camp or how I play or FR or whether I am a "lonewolf" or whatever other label you want to throw at me, it's the fact that in simple terms I was banned for "being too good" for them and that is simply not a very good reason to ban anyone from a server.

I don't feel I am a great player or a bad player I just don't usually go out into the line of fire, kamikaze style like some do.

Now, I said what I have to say and really I think we should all move on and close this thread. The PUF fellas have there opinion and I have mine.

I agree that you shouldn't have been banned for how you play, but I haven't seen tracker register things incorrectly in this manner, unless you were reconnecting a lot. If you were RC'ing a lot, then yeah -- the scores and FR won't register properly if you leave too soon, like immediately after being killed.

The Engineer, why don't you just tell them to examine your "FR" a little more closely. With just a little bit of analysis, it's easy to deduce how you're playing ingame. The_Engineer has 8 recent sessions in which he has 0 kills and 0 deaths, and each of these sessions are at least 16 minutes in duration, and some are even as long as 43 minutes. Roughly, on average, in these 0-0 sessions, he spent about a half-hour in the server with no action. And he wasn't merely waiting on people to come in the server, because he has a positive score in each of these 0-0 sessions. Then, take a look at how in ALL his recent sessions, his highest kill count is 15 kills. In that very session, he died only twice and played a total of 46 minutes.

Basically, PUF clan, what The_Engineer is doing is pretty much nothing but waiting -- waiting on clear, clean shots. He is inevitably camping, certainly playing it very safe (perhaps to an extreme degree), and maybe even letting E take the OBJ (depending on the map and what side he ended up on). I think I've only played with The_Engineer once, so I haven't really seen him play, but these types of tracker stats cannot manifest without doing some of the most hardcore camping and patience ever witnessed in AA pubs.

Personally, I wouldn't call that being "too good." And if there's any subtle suggestion that he's hacking, then that'd be awkward, considering his stats, which show he doesn't like getting up in the enemy's face. Just change the way you approach him while in-game and force him to play differently; or maybe force him onto assault. :-)

But banning him, based on what's been said, is a bit odd and unnecessary.
