mAAp Project / Re: Server launching for devs
« on: Friday, June 28, 2013, 19:21:08 PM »
Updated to v3.2. There are now server checks before launching AA and while AA is running. If the server fails to start or crashes, this program will tell you and automatically close AA.

I've updated this for AA 2.8.5 as it requires a username be set before joining a LAN server. I will do some other improvements such as server.ini enabling cheats and armyops.ini for brightness/contrast/gamma setting in the editor and game.

I don't have a 'compiled' script yet so just copy the code into a .txt and rename to a .bat then stick it in your System folder.

If you can do that really quick at the beginning of the round on Assault, you might catch vent or north defending assaulters by surprise. Aside from that, I can't see it being very useful.

@Spanky

By all means, this has to do with "trust".
If I use the software of somebody else I have to be sure he don't do anything that may harm the environment this software runs.

Full disclosure is the cornerstone of such an collaboration.

But who needs Assist when no one runs a server...
 :?

The Assist admins could only mess with your files if they created and released an update to Assist. Did that happen?

Assist has control over its files only, there wouldn't ever be anything in the Assist code that messed with other things on the computer not related to AA. It's not going to start looking at your browser history :) Everything that Assist and the admins do is to make the game better.

The thing is, if one of the admins did do this to Assist, you have 2 choices; use it or don't. The admins have control of the project and they can do as they please. As always, nobody is entitled to use Assist, it is all available out of the kindness of the admins hearts. Donating isn't bribing to demand features, it simply pays for server costs so the admins are more inclined to keep the project going. Good luck playing AA without Assist.

If for one am gutted. I thought AA would get a new lease of life with the mods shutting down.

You underestimate the desire for people to run mods. Crusade made many versions and there's other people like me that hoard files and have versions that work fine.

That's why I said dual-core would probably be good enough. One to run Wine, the other to run AA. Perhaps the processor core assignment for programs could be accessed to force Wine to one core and AA to the other?

If we update to 2.8.5 will everyone go over or will we have a choice?
No, everybody will go. Of course, you could still play 2.5, just the same way you can play 2.8.5 now :)

AA2 uses just 1 core. It's because of the engine. I don't think Unreal ever updated it. They did put out a 64-bit patch but I don't think AA released it and even if they did, it's a slight performance boost.

Also, unless you have a 120hz monitor, anything above 60FPS is useless.

Jonny, you didn't happen to try mAAp Pipe did you? :P

probably will require better hardware

Which isn't saying much for AA. Probably dual-core or better would work fine.

Have you done all of the Windows Updates? Even the optional ones?

This happens with me sometimes when I format a computer, some programs won't install/run until .NET is updated.

It didn't look like it was very responsive. Not to mention, the actions on this fake gun take longer than hitting a key or clicking a mouse. It will only be fair if people have the same hardware...
