Feedback & Suggestions / Re: AA3 Maps Discussion

Your computer is largely irrelevant as long as it's dual-core or higher.
... :D ...

Well, good Gaming PC is not only because of multiple CPU cores and believe or not, but dual-core or higher in these days is standard... You should know this better than that - like you I am a computer scientist.
As for 'newer games', you're wrong - especially when it comes to impact on the performance by game content.
...More staticmeshes is a good thing, they're faster to render than BSP which a lot of 2.5 maps are made out of (Pipeline...).
Yeah, but height polygons SM will have the same effect... Besides, conversion of BSP to SM entails a deterioration of visual quality (shadows, lighting...). Generally, in such cases, is used LightMap, but probably AA2.5 engine doesn't support it. There is many more aspects, but we are already Off Topic.

It's always been like that: only a tiny part of all players come to this forum.

What's funny is how admins keep creating those polls, and base their decisions on such an illusion of "community".

Still only 37 votes (+1)... Now I see, what you have in mind...

...no one should have a problem with this little increase of space. I don't even think they make 250MB thumb drives anymore, that's so small and pointless now an days....
True: it's not about the HD space - it's about the performance. AA3 maps are more complex (static meshes are more detailed, textures with higher resolution, sounds with higher quality etc.) and this will have direct impact on...
...Yes one of the best things about this game is how many can play with very low resources, computers, laptops including don't exactly come with high specs for RAM and video card specs...
...those people.
I not worried about me, my PC is one level up than Hi-End, but for most people even the middle-high end pc is beyond the reach.

If AA community want more maps, then there is many good Tactic-Ops UE2/2.5 based games - i.e. Rainbow 6 have very good maps - so why not convert these maps..? Same engine, same climate and very well balanced.
Besides, devs should publish AA2.5 editor and let the people be creative. Take example from UT community... Start new Contest thread with two Child Boards: Betas and Release. I assume that purpose of these two is known... At the end, only the best maps will be added to the official map-pack.

BTW: Shame - almost 5000 users and after 48 hours only 36 votes...

Hey guys, tried to recover my old PC to find some possible screenshots to provide my most recent known Honor but it was not possible as my old tower wont even start.
Use GetDataBack to recover data from HD.

Oh, so you want to increase the number of available maps that won't be played anyway? When will you recognize the fact that most of original maps and all of mAAp maps are practically not played at all? One could expect that complete failure of mAAp project should teach you a lesson.
Agree - why..? Some time ago, there was a thread started by ELiZ, where most of people was against... There is no point to discuss AA3 maps in AA2 once again. Besides, you're about to release these maps in alpha state (not finished, not tested...) - this will cause a new wave of complaints.

Off topic:
Pit go fuck itself, go hang itself in ur bathroom...
...and you schmuck, you need to learn some good manners...

...what it would accomplish for this game...
In these days, the image quality is what people like. In this case AA3 is not too bad - only gameplay sucks. Imagine AA3 with AA2.5 gameplay... Rewriting AA3 will be much easier than to move the entire AA2.5 to the new engine (where I'll suggest to use AA3 content any way...).
Biggest problem of this community is Linux support, if not, UDK is free - as long as you don't make money you don't need to worry about copyright. Eliz already has proved, that porting AA3 (maps) to UDK can be done very easily thanks to the large similarity.

The entire thing would have to be redone from the ground up
Not really...

Those that are good with creating content either have jobs in the field and have very little if no time for FREE work or they are on other games.
Better ad should do the job in finding the right people.

The big modding community for UT exists because they like that game.
...because of flexibility of the gameplay and engine accessibility - here, this is not the case.

If the AA devs couldn't rebuild the game (AA3, AA:PG) and keep the core AA2 players, what chance do we have? The gameplay would be different.
True, but I think it would be worthwhile to try.

What would that accomplish? The gameplay dynamics would be different...
It's just an engine like any others - mostly when it comes to Unreal Engine. Greatest in the UE is backwards compatibility - basically, you can rewrite i.e. AA3 to behave like AA2.5 - or port AA2.5 directly to the new engine with only minor changes to the code.

...it'd be hard finding enough developers to devote to the game for free and it would take quite a while.
+/- 1 year for:
- rewriting AA3 - strong team of min 3 coders. In this case you will lose support for Linux.
- new engine - First you need to find one, then as above plus animation team. There was only one leaked UE3 with Linux support, but it will be difficult to get it - people won't share...

So the guy who coded trojan and then shut the auth down was polish??? I thought he was brit. I'm confused now...
Where is the difference..?

AA2 is not dead. When I still see players on the server, the game is alive. When there will be 0 players online, then I can say the game is dead...
No, isn't - this is the "agony" ...

I believe people are moving on after what happen...
What happened was wrong but this has nothing to do with it. It's because of 'evolution' - gaming evolution...

...they will get bored with fast gameplay and come back,,, just a matter of time.
Don't think so...

What could be done, to bring the player back to AA2?
Only one thing: a brand new engine...

Off topic:
...arma is a continuation of operation flashpoint once the most realistic army shooter, but its modern versions wearing that name are not so "real"...
Yeah, even OF2 is not the same... Still - from time to time - I play once again in the original OF. Graphic quality is nil, but the gameplay is a masterpiece.

AA2 for the win. I dont need a callofdutystyle Gameplay in americas army. 2.5 is still the most tacticool game;)
You said that because you never played in Arma...

On topic: This question is nonsense - it depends on who you ask ...

- Old school players will vote for AA2.5 because of gameplay, cause they know it and it's hard to change for them the way they play it.
- For the noobies AA3/4 is better because they don't like too much any kind of simulations (soldier classes etc...) - easy gameplay => easy kill.

There is many aspects, which will vote for AA3/4 like new Engine, much better graphic quality, new server system - but for oldies it doesn't matter...

Some time ago, the UT community asked themselves the same question and at the end, they split for the same reasons.

For me, none of them is better than Arma 2/3 - in any aspect (gameplay, simulation, graphic quality etc.).

Don't like the SAI? Disable it. Very easy.
It's not that easy... You need to understand, that small things like SAI is changing the gameplay...

267
you don't need to know uscript or UE to see our packages and their sources :D
You can't make i.e. a new map simply by looking at the game content. First you need to know how to do it, then you can do it by hard work. In my case, knowledge isn't a problem.

but but, are you Eliot (UE Explorer dev)?
Sorry to disappoint you...
I ask because I don't think you've showed us what you're capable of. Just curious.
Don't worry, you've made your choice and I wll respect that - nothing (if any...) will goes public.

... IP matches...
...mine is dynamic...

268
Maybe... First I need to collect some info about this version of UE, then we'll see what I can do.

269
I just wanted you to know that I have access to AA25 content / uscript.

270
Oh, I see...
Anyways, this 'config' work for me. There are some limitations, but...
