This isn't news.

You have to go into your server.ini to host a custom map on a server. To play offline, just go to the game and hit the console. Then type: open mp_sf_contingency

If you wouldn't mind, yes. :) When do you plan on doing this? I'd like to get as many people in it to test the map as possible.

This being said, would anyone be willing to host this map on a server to be tested?

Ban Appeals / Re: Bans without "hard proofs"
« on: Thursday, August 02, 2012, 10:00:26 AM »
This topic is asinine. Look. Bans should require proof (like they used to) because there is the possibility of banning legit players. You can claim to have a perfect streak all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that you can still take a video and discuss it with other admins. Banning people on your own without consulting any of the other anti-cheat members when there is no proof is abuse of authority. Abuse of authority will destroy what's left of the community if it lasts too long. Is that worth catching a few more possible cheaters? Are you kidding me?

In addition to this, you also appear to be making these rash decisions without running them by other members of the staff, which is total bullshit because even I know that running Assist is a team effort. The last thing it needs is a breach of trust among the staff.

Back to the point: You must provide evidence if you honestly care about the truth. Otherwise you should lock this topic and abuse authority further by putting these rules in place anyway.

I think it's quite balanced. And it's not like I'm spending whole days looking for cheaters, trying to "manually" ban them all. I only focus on suspicious stuff that comes across my way.

Note that so far I only banned a few players this way (if you don't count the multiple accounts of theirs). It looks otherwise, because each such ban generates a lot of upset and noise.

If you want to make the people that are banned look like asses instead, you display proof. Then it looks good for the staff, even if the person banned keeps bitching. Give one good reason why proof shouldn't be required to ban people. Just because it's hard to find proof doesn't mean you should get to "eyeball" it even if you "reserve the right." I'm curious in what Sergio has to say about this, because it seems ridiculous to me.

As a matter of fact, did you even discuss any of this with the other admins before announcing this new joke of a "rule?"

I really disagree with this. If it's obvious he's wall hacking from viewing him, then use fraps and record it. At least something to show the guy was sketchy. There is just too much room to ban people who do nothing wrong.

Exactly. It looks better for the community and most likely won't drive players away, cursing. Pit, if you didn't catch what I was saying before - if you squeeze the sand to tight, it all slips through your fingers. Incoming players want to see a friendly community, and banning without proof just makes asses out of the whole staff, regardless of their involvement. Find a balance. You're not going to catch every cheater.

All I have to say about this is simply: You have a handful of sand. Your fist represents authority. The sand represents those under your authority. It's up to you to figure out how hard you should squeeze it.

We are trying to solve the cheater accusation problem. The cheater submissions system will be revamped so there's less bullshit posts with no proof. Just not sure how it is going to be done yet. We've also talked about removing honor from servers running mods like the pick a weapon mod in the past, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

I think that is a great idea. Back in the official times of AA, they were very firm when it came to honor servers. Honor should only be gained when playing the way it was meant to be played.

And Thanks, Ganja. I'll edit my first post with a link in a few minutes.

Competing is good, it generates the best content for the users but at the same time it also makes entry really hard. Goose, I don't mean to give you a bad attitude or get you down about working in UnrealEd for AA. If you enjoy it and enjoy the game, keep it up because you are doing good work. I'm just saying, it's frustrating with AA and I'm sure it would be frustrating with another game, just different kinds of frustration. There's no real middle ground unless you're a paid game dev working for a big company :)

Don't worry, I'm not flipping out. It's just, Max and I found Assist not that long ago, and now AA is dying again. I'm surprised it had two lives, but the only reason it's dying is because stupidity is taking over. People accusing others of cheating left and right is taking over the forum, while other topics just get buried. It's all drama and stupid bullshit now, wheres the enthusiasm?

On a side note, I think the modded servers are helping dig Assist's grave. You probably have, but have you considered "official" servers?

Thanks, I'll check those out. I'll still work in this map for now, but it's not going to be released if it isn't tested.

Of course I nailed it. The only subjects anyone posts on anymore is cheaters. This is a total joke. I wish newer games had public editors so I could make something people might actually give to flying fucks about.
