Games & Programming / Word Processing Programs
« on: Sunday, April 04, 2010, 23:34:14 PM »
So like many Windows users, I use Microsoft Word to do any and all typing (with the except of needing to use Notepad++ for coding and other things). Recently I did some cleaning up, removing programs, etc and I thought about why I keep MS Office. It's pretty huge considering all I need it to do is type some things in a clean, professional presentation, and probably use Powerpoint to create slideshows every once in a while. It was Google time! I found 3 programs that are possible to be compared to Word: AbiWord, OpenOffice (obviously), and LyX.
Personally I don't like OpenOffice too much because it's large and because I think it still needs java to do anything. I don't know about AbiWord and LyX, they looked tiny and were capable of doing what you can do on Word.

Has anyone used any other word processing programs other than Word? Talk cajones!

Yes, also, the ads look fine. Obviously they are just a box thrown on the bottom of the page though. But thats okay considering the site doesnt even have a theme yet.

=\
The worst part about soldering is when you need a solder sucker. Sometimes you can get lucky and heat up the solder and quickly flick it off with your finger, but when your working in a cramped space with capacitors . . . have fun.

Hardware/Software / Super Nintendo Controller to Parallel Port Pinout
« on: Monday, March 01, 2010, 14:07:33 PM »
Many years ago I converted a SNES controller to parallel with a friend using some old controllers we had. The whole purpose was for the playing experience on emulators to be more authentic since we played over IP a lot and real SNES controllers are more fun. So I made this pinout in Photoshop:

It's 300 dpi & grayscale so you can print it if you want :)

Maybe I'll put up the tutorial for this another day since this is just good for the people who already know their electrics and soldering. This project requires diodes and such so it's not nice for newbies.

Game looks like it would be a lot of fun. Graphics look kinda cartoony though, but they are still good. The lighting and particle effects are really nice :)
