Only one thing: a brand new engine...

What would that accomplish? The gameplay dynamics would be different, it'd be hard finding enough developers to devote to the game for free and it would take quite a while.

Microsoft rebuilt the audio stack to make it better and add an API to allow direct access to the sound device to bypass the system. It absolutely boggles my mind how people constantly have problems with Vista/7/8 audio and AA.

External headphone amps are always a good idea. The reason being is that all drivers (headphones, speakers, etc) need power. They are a physically moving device. Without enough power available, that device cannot perform to it's maximum and that's when you get audio quality loss.

A reason for an external device is that computers are very noisy with many high-frequency sources inside and while there are quality power supplies, they are all switching types and that is very dirty power for analog audio. While the Schiit Modi unit I have is USB powered, it has a filter circuit in it that effectively isolates it.

I didnt know if it was the card or the fact it was AA2 on W7. I went for Xfi to be sure.

Either it did or didn't work for all programs/games. Just because you can't hear enemies across the map in AA doesn't mean the sound card is faulty :)

I thought this screenshot would get more people interested. Perhaps this video will do the trick:

I don't have a ton of experience with ASUS cards but I got one for a customer and it was good. I'd say to ignore the opamps for now. Unless you need 7.1 or DTS/Dolby then I'd highly suggest getting something external. There's not a lot of external products at the $60 range but that's not too far off, you could save a bit more and get a nice setup. It's been a while since I've kept up on audio products but as usual, http://head-fi.org has good info :) That said, I really enjoy my Schiit Modi for $100 bucks. USB power, small, simple circuit and it just works, no hassle. You could get one of these and a budget tube headphone amp on eBay.

Kari, if the card was defective, you should have tried a new one.

A 1000 players?????? and 850 the other day????? Obviously your player stats program has a severe flaw ....all that mountain air is clouding your judgement Spanky...the game we all love is on life support and will slowly die off.

Hopefully I'm wrong on this, but I just don't see people coming back...

Nothing wrong with my code. It queries a custom list made by Assist that shows BTID's (Battletracker ID number) of players currently logged into Assist. The code processes that list and adds the BTID's to a database, checking first to see if that specific BTID is already in the database. Then, at the end of the day, it counts all the BTID's in the database and saves the number. Those numbers are then charted. The number is unique accounts across a 24-hour period. Lots of people come and go throughout the day.

I have another graph that shows maximum number of players on at any given time as well.

If you check BT stats you see a drop from ~950/day to ~650/day since the AC-shutdown scenario.
That means over 30% are gone.

If we would get rid of Assist it may bring back a lot of them, even without scoring.

I wouldn't live on BT stats.

Before the shutdown, we were hovering between 1,000 and 1,100 unique players and the other day we hit 850 and it's slowly climbing. I'd say we've lost under 20% and some of those might be people that just haven't re-installed or had issues with Assist when it came back online.

Check the graphs, there was no more than 1100 unique logins during the day and the other day there was about 850. Not as good as it was but it's coming back very well.

It seems to me that the only thing that will keep this game alive is an updated (this time legal) AC system. Maybe this is what you mean by developers, idk.

Yea, that'd be great. Anti-cheat developers. It would also be great to port Assist to a platform that's faster. Have a chance to rewrite the code and make things more efficient/user friendly as well as implement some new features. Just because something 'works' doesn't mean it can't be improved. Have a look at every piece of software around you.

well all that info is wrong.

I play fine on 7.

ofcourse it's playable, and ofcourse the sound is decent. Just not enough loud for you, to hear enemies from spawn to spawn ;)

These are the best posts ever about the ongoing sound complaining.

Hahaha....maybe? maybe not...You want to compare phds?  ;)

Last thing I want to do is see whose piece of paper is prettier. What matters is how you carry on a conversation.
