mAAp Project / Interdiction converting
« on: Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 06:41:36 AM »

This post is mostly for Koden (who logged off while I was typing...) but I will sticky it in case anybody else wants to try to convert a 2.8 map to 2.5. Basically, the AA developers renamed texture/staticmesh/sound packages for 2.8. Why they did this... I have no idea, it serves absolutely no purpose and gave them more work. So, this is the main obstacle for converting maps.

[...] cut [...]

Thank you for posting the guide, i followed the same process you described...one thing i wonder, i might have messed with the line(s) that seems missing on Interdiction, as mistyping a piece of code i was replacing (163.354 lines of code). I'm going to look and correcting the mess.

For SnakePlain i think the main central fort would still fit perfect for Assault and Defense. I used to play Snakeplain a lot and i know the mission gameplay and tactics are entirely different from a pure PvP assault/defense (it was an object-pow rescue mission with 2 humvees, 50cal and Mk19 shells) but the map is indeed too big for a team without vehicles. And if you get killed at some point at the beginning it's gonna be a long wait if you plan a 20/25 minuts timelapse.

Pshh, we'll just add some cheap drive-able cardboard boxes. You can imagine the cardboard box to be anything you like as you drive it.

The ability of driving any kind of object would be a plus (since there's already a chance of surfing on boxes lol).

DG Hack Hunter false positives, don't bother about them...unfortunatly it does depend only on DGHH itself (and the player ofcourse). Running while using your gun would be a quite recognizable exploit, while spectating a player that uses it.

That's just off the top of my head. You mentioned "look at doing the same for latest version", what do you mean by that? Do you mean adding/ripping features from 2.8?

I'd guess he might mean the SAI, for one (situational awareness indicator, army would make an acronym even for toilet paper).

Yep i remember of the Team view Nate.

Code: [Select]
Major-Skrewupâ„¢: lol
Major-Skrewupâ„¢: 213268 lines
Major-Skrewupâ„¢: he can get fucked
Spanky: interdiction would be easy
Spanky: once you remove the ai paths and bots, there's going to be a LOT less code

I agree with Skrewy the code is huge, i was aware that the map is a complex one, as i said before. If the converting has to be done manually and if you have some reference/info to drop about it i would be willing to do the job :) .

I'm turning glass kill house into double assault and added an objective. Except it's a small map, so not much stalking lol.

sweet :D an obj that can be trasported?

Feel free to give suggestions on how maps can be improved. You can also submit ideas or even submit 2.8 maps to be converted to 2.5 :)

Interdiction :3 i luv that map. Even without bots (it is a complex map though, and heavy too).

512Kbps Internet Connection .
A dual core CPU or fast single core
A 256MB Graphics Card (i.e. 6600).
2GB of Ram.

My first laptop (that i used until not long ago) was actually a t2400 Centrino 1.8 with 1gb of ram and a x1800 mobile, downclocked (thank you Fujitsu) at 400 mhz on the core, with 256 mb of ram. Heck it was a little beast (5 years ago). AA wasn't running that nice on it though (the very reason Skrewy wrotes about, crappy roads/things).

I don't get why the discussion went down this way, if you read through and especially first Spanky's post, it is a practical matter, not a gameplay one.

Honor Claims / Re: Honor claim
« on: Monday, January 23, 2012, 03:35:40 AM »
yes koden i was, i got no clue how the heck i ended up at 25?

Authorization was stopped since Dec. 18th. Everyone that played from that day to a certain date, was given a 15 points honor level because it is how the system works when the authorization system isn't available. AA25Assist uses Battletracker for authorization and tracking.

Btw: 1236,413(total score) the next milestone at 91 is at 1.103.000 points. Fairly close * .

*Obviously calculating honor level over Battletracker tracked score since it is the only practical proof i have.
=92.6 honor rounded to 92

Given your total score it seems reasonable that you were at least in the first 90's.

All the bugs that are left make the game the game we all love, change it and we are going to kill it even more like with AA3.

i honestly struggle to find a bug that made the game enjoyable or something that made it unique, lol. While i understand that sound effects and quality is a separate matter that also relies on personal taste (like, mine's is not everyone's cup of tea), performance and game client fix would really make for a better experience. I would bet there might be space for improvement even in client to server communication.

The idea is definatly a go, the way it's going now it's really time wasting as people rarely offer evidence.

you dont want all the junk/unused data cropped out to make AA2.5's overall filesize(s) reduced? so when u need to repair aa ur downloading less data (for aussies who have an internet cap thats a +)
you dont want the maps optimised for FPS? so the map looks the same (or even better in some cases) and no less (but more in most cases) FPS while playing?
AA3 sounds are better of a higher quality then aa 2.5 but I can see how some people would be against such a large change in there game even if it would be in the long run a nice update.

I would like to see the basics of the games engine changed to use more cores and pass its graphics load off to my gpus. but thats just a pipe dream

I would love that, the game engine changes would really bring more freedom and resources to spend on visual features and other things.

General Chat / Re: Hor+ widescreen?
« on: Friday, January 20, 2012, 16:33:08 PM »
I never did understand the whole widescreen push. Some movies have such a wide aspect ratio that even on 16:9 you have thick black bars. Some people rotate their monitors to be in portrait mode which is fine for web but sucks for most games unless you do something like this:

That doesn't look like a great solution, i think the bezels get a lot in the way, or at least they get in the way of the main object in your screen (the car).

Picture ration in movies is a different thing imho.

General Chat / Understanding honor level through ACI hazard account link
« on: Friday, January 20, 2012, 09:53:12 AM »
I'm posting this since i'm trying to understand how ACI honor info works, as there happens to be more than 1 honor grade related icon (or i suppose they actually are honor icon) but it doesn't seems like they can be added in a linear way (like 1+1). Skrewy originally came up with ACI honor link info but that was about an account having one simple grade icon info.

Obviously if ACI honor level info could be taken as the main source it would be a clear time saving opportunity.

I'm also aware that ACI private members are able to perform a deeper and complete account analysis. So i guess they might be a precious resource too (i know there's a private ACI member in many AA2 clans).
