General Chat / Re: Merging Normal & mAAp Modes
« on: Monday, January 23, 2012, 03:41:00 AM »
My replies are in red above. You guys are just so narrow minded. "It won't benefit me so it's stupid". It comes to a point where I start thinking "why even help if people are just going to bitch and moan without thinking. Why bother to improve FPS, make the maps look better, add nice features WITHOUT changing the gameplay when people like yourself are closed-minded". *shrug* I guess that's why the majority of people on AA are still on Bridge and regular Pipeline.

This is not narrow minded at all, but maybe your not explaining your reason's or the changes clear enough for us.

Simply there is no need to change based on your arguments.

I don't play bridge or pipe and I don't Bitch either you asked for comments and that's what your getting, try taking them on board so all parties can be happy.

We do not want the Game play to change and this is exactually the Narrow mindless that lead to AA3 failing, if you go ahead and changes things and this happens I will stop playing after 7 years im sure with allot of others.  It also begs the Reason why you don't look at doing the same for the latest version on V2.8.5.  Personally I think AA2.6 / 2.7 was the best version but I also like the SAI of 2.8.x.

The changes I've seen already are good to revive the game so don't take this as me not appreciating (or bitching) what is being done but there are allot of things I don't like that has been done as far as locking menu's, configs ect.  It makes it hard to change settings or servers while in game.  While I understand there is probably a  valid reason to get things to work so it must be done.  I would like things to keep the essence of the game as normal as possible.

Any one playing the game now or in the past will have the same or better equipment / connection and plays it like it is.  Do you really think a change now will get all the people on all the binned computer sent to china playing now when they didn't previously?

The resources to play this game are really minimal.  Can anyone post and tell me who doesn't have at least the following:

512Kbps Internet Connection .
A dual core CPU or fast single core
A 256MB Graphics Card (i.e. 6600).
2GB of Ram.

General Chat / Re: Eliminate Honor Claims
« on: Monday, January 23, 2012, 02:55:12 AM »
good idea only drawback i can see is,  the players who have been on servers with a ridiculous points scale,  they would end up 110?

Points based on Honor should only be for mp maps so this should not happen if done right.

Is there anyway to get your original account points or only trackers?  Would AA release it ?

It would have been easily to manipulate tracker honor with a high honor account say with 100H.  By then making a new account getting it tracked and then making another one ect.  You could then have multiple 100H tracker accounts with very little points..

Not sure if you could use your Tracker name and changes to then Manipulate multiple Assist accounts to get 100H.

Isnt it only 15 Honor accounts that have problems all the rest should show the current Honors or close to in there tracker or if not then they would have had this issue all along.

I think base it on there current Honor or if they have more points on there tracker then automatically increase the honor to match.

I am an aussie and I will still play on us servers, stop caring about ur stats so much, although its easier for me to say seeing as I play bf3 and AA when ever someone invites me so my tracker stats for AA arent important to me. but mans and orton who are also aussies played in eu servers and got + fr's and they participated in eu server clan battles. so really its not an excuse its a winge.

I'm the same.  You just need to anticipate where the player will move and shoot there.

I will try and keep my Aussie Server up..  I'm heading off this weekend so go your hardest..

Server Support / Re: Server hosting companys suitable for running Assist server
« on: Friday, January 20, 2012, 18:21:20 PM »
Clients / Customers its all the same ;)
Currently iam working on the auth system on my server so i can't help you with a server at this moment,..
But what you need is the following;

- Setup  a server with remote access like RealVNC, TightVNC, etc
- Install 25Assist on it and run it in server mode
- If you rent it to your customer(s) make sure that you block everything else (like harddisk acces, shutdown of the system, etc)

If you logon to remote access you can manage your server at the highest level;
If you logon as admin in the AAO2 server you can change your settings there too;
When you are a advanced user you can install PBUCON (from punkbuster) then you can manage your server through web-based pages;

Good luck :)

I you don't want to give full access, why don't you just use firedaemon or TCAdmin.  I have setup and used Both they provide a Web interface that can be customised to display what ever you want.

you dont want all the junk/unused data cropped out to make AA2.5's overall filesize(s) reduced? so when u need to repair aa ur downloading less data (for aussies who have an internet cap thats a +)
you dont want the maps optimised for FPS? so the map looks the same (or even better in some cases) and no less (but more in most cases) FPS while playing?
AA3 sounds are better of a higher quality then aa 2.5 but I can see how some people would be against such a large change in there game even if it would be in the long run a nice update.

I would like to see the basics of the games engine changed to use more cores and pass its graphics load off to my gpus. but thats just a pipe dream

As I said before the Game in old, computers and internet are faster it was designed for the average computer back in 2005..

It takes me less than 5 minutes to download the entire game
FPS can be maxed out even with on board graphics cards.  My 275GTX is running at idle.
As far as processor goes I could run at least 50 simultaneous copies on the one computer.
As far as ram goes I could run over 40 simultaneous copies.
We used to play this version on dial up 56-64k.  Now we use Adsl 2 or faster 12000-20000K.

All the bugs that are left make the game the game we all love, change it and we are going to kill it even more like with AA3.

Honor Claims / Re: Honor Claim and possible tracker return?
« on: Friday, January 20, 2012, 02:30:37 AM »
Never seen some many name changes.
No doubt about the honor, but can't give honor on a new account for one you no longer have.  You would need to prove it is your account.  The only way really is through battletracker.

General Chat / Re: Hor+ widescreen?
« on: Thursday, January 19, 2012, 08:17:58 AM »
Is it possible to add widescreen support that doesn't cut out half of the view?

He meas he can see more in 4:3 than he can in 16:9.  This limit is on the screen width so by its own design ratio you can't fit a 4:3 screen in 16:9 without chopping off the top and bottom.

General Chat / Re: Player Slots
« on: Thursday, January 19, 2012, 08:15:10 AM »
No need to fiddle with it... the maximum slots are there for a reason and the maps are professionally fine-tuned for them. And it's a rare sight to see even 20 players on a server.

I could run quite comfortably 26 slots on our server while other server that ran 20 or 22 started have big problems.

It depends on a few things, hardware, connection location, and bw of the connection.  We were in the data centre in Australia that linked directly into the pipes that serviced USA, Europe, Japan and New Zealand.  Japan in particular was a hugh pipe.  We had a 40Mbps connection minimum QoS and running quad core xeon's with hugh ram.  15 servers was not a challenge on this combination.

Bug Reports / Re: Default keyboard layout from AA 2.8.5 (or custom)
« on: Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 04:37:36 AM »
Hello people and thank you for helping AA.

I think 2.8.5 keyboard layout or a subset of it (important keys are: q, e, alt fire...) should be the default layout for new AA installations. This helps a bit to switch from 2.8.5 to 2.5, as well as it is just better.

While I am at it: does the server default configuration to print a blue text about 25Assist while playing? If it is so. then should be in a different colour, as blue is used for team mate death messages.

except people like me who like the 2.5 layout and use it in 2.8.5...  It was always a pain, as it used to reset every now and then..
