General Chat / Re: Issues getting Players to join AA2.5

I tend to agree with Langy... AA25 is not exactly the most populated game, why disenfranchise a person from becoming a potential contributor to the community?

Yes, incognito admin is a pretty good word for that what I need :)

Best way to be incognito is to remove yourself from playeradmin and setup pbucon so you can monitor the server from a terminal window.

I issue commands via the terminal such as screenshot requests, CVAR lists etc...

I appreciate your opinion and you do make a good point, but your opinion runs contrary to most of the community. Any time we touch an original map we get blasted. Spanky added a railing to WWR to try to get rid of the "invisible player" issue and that went over so poorly we had to change it back. A fucking railing got that response, I'm assuming moving structures would be even worse.

Definitely understand the sentiment.  However, sometimes the parent must guide the child... While I do not advocate the 25Assist developers and maintainers/curators of maps to become dictatorial, there is an opportunity for these people to contribute positive changes, regardless of the emotional outbursts of the community.

Regarding the rail on WWR (SF_Hospital).  It was a good idea with resulting effects that were not known nor eeked out.  As far as I'm concerned, Spanky attempted to fix a problem everyone agreed was worth fixing, only to have his efforts thrown back at him.  This, IMHO, was a child-like response, consequently my aforementioned view on parental guidance.  I'm surprised that Spanky even spends time modifiying this game, as it seems that a lot of his efforts go unnoticed, same for Eliz.

As for me, after six months of AA:PG, I'm headed back to 25Assist again.  I'll continue to play both games, as I still love AA2, being the only FPS series I've ever played (or really want to play).  Can't believe it's been eleven years since I first downloaded v1.7.

Good games people, see you on the battlefield.

The setting to disable sniper(No Advanced Marksman) on the Parental Control page is now always set to False. It has been exploited to gain weaponry that was not intended.

In 1 hour all Clients/Servers should have the new Antipoke.u, until then you might get version mismatch on the file.

This is a good patch... however, it should be stated that it was indeed the intent to eliminate the S24 via parental control and substitute it for an alternate weapon.  Since the slot was an SF slot, the default M4A1 was used instead.

A better mod would have been to include a barrier just outside WW Lower door, which prevents spamming into 1st floor lobby (underpass) and eliminated the 203 spam from escort (eg: AA4 has a less clear line of sight (LOS) and you have to be on the 4th floor escort building or on the ground to hit a target in WW Lower).

I don't like any server that enforces a rule for spam (i.e. time).  If the map has issues, then change the map, not the rules.  Same goes for the game in general.  Eliminating the parental control is a great example of how to change the game to better suit the audience, though, personally, i think a sniper on such a small LOS map as hospy is just plain illogical.

Bug Reports / Re: Download Failed! Check your connection and Retry

Was there any solution to this problem?

I am getting the same message.

I've done the following:
1) service iptables stop (disables firewall)
2) double checked chmod values for the directory structure

Things to note:  I took the old installation I had from November last year and placed it on a new VPS (CentOS 65)

I can't load the page, I got the 'Unable to connect' error on firefox. I really need this guide.

Sorry man, the AUS 2.5 community server has been taken down.  Australia has moved on to AA4...

There is a copy in Langy's new clan forums... (http://www.ausaao25.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=getit&lid=6)

Yea, shared IP will do it, one account per.

So how does this work if my son and I both play via NAT on a single static IP address? We both play together on occasion...

Seems extreme to only allow one account per IP...

release an update in the morning when the game is quiet

OK, this is sort of funny... mainly because as you update the system, it's in the evening for us in Australia and we get booted from the server as it updates...

No perfect solution, as the world has 24 time zones... and generally someone is playing somewhere.

Keep up the work Jonny, we do appreciate it.

General Chat / Re: Linux server issue - Server Offline or Logfile not present
« on: Tuesday, July 16, 2013, 06:56:41 AM »
You can type the following command to kill all AA/25Assist processes...

Code: [Select]
kill -9 `ps -aef | grep "System/server" | grep -v grep | awk ' { print $2 } ' `

Not sure if this is a new problem or not. There are three processes started - the aa server, the 'serverx', and the bash export processes.  I created a script to end task on all three processes, and restart the server.  The only change was that before, I was killing them off using groupid instead of killing them off by each pid.
When I go into the server, it seems to work ok for about a min, then gun quits working.
When I exit the server, Assist will say at the bottom "Server logfile not present" or "Server Offline" and it will persist in saying that on random occasions.
Any insight as to why that happens?

Three processes are normal and the minimum complement.

If you'd like to see my script for managing AA/25Assist... download it from http://111.67.16.10/files/

As for the logfile, make sure you have write permissions in the System directory of the installation.

Bug Reports / Re: 25Assist v7.32 - AVG Detection
« on: Sunday, July 14, 2013, 08:17:54 AM »
The problem isn0t Assist but people using AVG :P

Please install http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html ;)

It isn't that simple... AVG may have a false positive this time, but maybe another AV may have it next time... best way is to make sure the fingerprint is registered with AV programs so that there is no further false positives...
