Miscellaneous / Re: Paper filter modding to air filter - scooter
« on: Sunday, April 08, 2012, 15:51:49 PM »
I think the most important thing is that the length and diameter of the intake stays the same. Thinking about it more, I don't imagine different filters will do much for you and if it's a matter of cost, foam should be good enough. Does the scooter have an oil filter?

Yes it has, it sits just over the drain plug so i check it everytime i change the engine oil (every 4000 km which translate in about every 4 months for my mileage).

About the filter, it's also about being practical as foam it's much easier to find around, clean, and eventually replace without having to replace the whole plastic filter housing.

That's a lot of plastic. Looks like it would be a good candidate for sticking a foam filter in there. I would say if you can find another paper one for cheap, go for it.

Well most likely they ask 15 € at least, while a 210x297mm wide double layered piece of foam costed me 10 and would be enough for 2 or maybe 3 filtering elements. Gonna take the thing apart, applying the foam and going out for  a test tomorrow, it's raining by now, hoping it's going to better tomorrow as i have to travel back to my place which is about 60 km away - by scooter.

Really? How about eBay? A lot of filters fit a lot of models. You could try just removing the paper filter completely and adding a piece of stiff foam, that should be easy to find. Ultimately, you won't know until you try it :)

I can find it even in some stores, didn't wanted to buy over Ebay because shipping takes convenience off.

I already have the stiff foam 8) (double layered - wider holes in front, tighter behind), that's why i opened the thread. The thing is, i just want 1 more spare air filter to use in case foam doesn't work good at all.

The air filter is this one anyway

Hmmm, I had always thought that while foam is easy to use and replace, paper gives better performance. I mean, you see a lot of older engines use foam (and some newish ones use a foam pre-filter) but most modern ones are just paper filter. Personally, I've looked into it and thought about it a lot for my Honda and I've come to the conclusion that the manufacturers designed the intake and exhaust systems to have a certain restriction and flow to get the best performance out of the engine. If you start changing things, carb adjustments may be required at the very least.

I tried looking for info over the net and came up to the same idea...in the end the engine has a fuel electronic injection system so it theorically could adjust for a different airflow, but i don't really feel like daring to cut out the paper from the only filter i have (little hard to find a spare one as it's a not so common model).

So, as the title already explains, i'm wondering if its actually possible to switch paper with foam in the air filter. The scooter has a (125cc) electronic injected engine, so my guess is that it's gonna adjust itself for the different amount of air coming in from the filter (foam should let it "breath" easier than paper). The obvious advantage is that a foam filter is easier to replace and/or clean when dirty (it also has bigger holes tho, as paper has much tighter fiber holes which in fact makes for a different air flow).

Willing to share your opinions? -

Is there a way to increase chat text size because it is very hard to read on higher resolutions?

Hmm, i'm totally not the website developer, but the chat box is rather small. The font size might be increased by a few points only me thinks. Jared and/or Spanky knows fo sho.

Whoops. Right.

for some reason my assist have a prob with Authorization server is it a problem of assist or battletracker ?

It's hard to tell what's the issue without the error message. Care to show a screenshot or sharing the message?

dont worry about spanky, hes the resident troll and abusive idiot. its best u just communicate with him in grunts and eyebrow moves anything more complex scares and angers the poor guy.

Yes, you should take Skrewy as a model of behave, his posts are always helpful and he never scares newbies off with an almost artistic sense of literature, he uses that for drawing the perfect bright line for them to walk on with tears of joy and a sense of perfection coming through his words, like "This- my child- is The Way".

Yeah I like it too, but I prefer the one I'm using in my current laptop (The other pics were from my very old laptop which Is under the bed :P).

This is how I have my current laptop:

But I always loose a lot of time to organize everything, every time I have to format windows.

The start menu is pretty divided. The desktop is still not clean, and full of AA server files and mods :(.

ps: And screw Wind7 it sucks bad. I have to have wind7 in my desktop because of the newer software features, but I hate it, you can't even organize things the way you want, you can't organize that crap start menu, GOSH I REALLY HATE IT. And Wind8 looks even worst, maybe M$ wanna bring android to computers or something...
Keep Cool

Yeah 64 bits are useless anyway.

ps: But I wouldn't exchange windows 4 linux anytime. I can't have any system other than windows in my computer. I don't like much any theme from any linux distribution, not even the ones that look near windows. But worst is really the macs, yack I hate that system, looks more like a mobile phone than a professional PC, Kinda what the crap windows8 looks like. My fav is still windows XP with official M$ "zune theme".
Keep Cool

Lol. I used Solaris powered workstations, Windows and Mac powered personal computers, a few Linux distro on mine, i need to stay on Windows because of many graphic sofware tools i use. You really seems a Microsoft boy anyway, that "M$ zune theme" made me lol :D

Watched a couple of movie previews, kind of too much emphasizing due to the rhetoric. If you're actually supposed to tell about a real military unit, a war movie-like soundtrack isn't really fitted. Voices and testimonials from the soldiers, or the people who they helped, that would have been more interesting that a few phrases and numbers scattered over a black to image transition.

P.s. actually i first thought that the website was just a fiction movie thing, it's just using a wierd visual language to me, for that kind of thing it's supposed to communicate about.

Why would you even bother about thinking of deleting or making unusable maps content that aside of its quality also makes for variety? Content that already resides on your hdd once you install AA 2.5...

Quite a big nono.
