General Chat / Re: A few questions for a New "Old" Player
« on: Monday, April 16, 2012, 13:22:43 PM »
Exploits are something that ruined the game for me when I moved to 2.5. Believe it or not, even though I hacked in 2.3, I never really used exploits on a regular basis. I can't really think of one that I used... maybe setfire a few times... Anyway, on 2.5, for most players it seems that it's more about keybinds and tweaks than it is about playing. I don't know if it's because it's a free game and a lot of immature kids play it or if it's just the game/engine itself... or perhaps both. Other games don't seem to have as many exploits or unfair tweaks as AA does.

Like mans said, Skrewy has his place on this forum. Everybody is welcome here no matter how rude, arrogant or just plain stupid. Just be happy that Skrewy lost his moderator rights a while back.

Well, i used to play Unreal Tournament 2004 some years ago, it was a game made from the start for the community to mod maps and many parts of the gameplay (e.g. mutators). AA simply shares a whole lot of features with Unreal, so it's relatively easy tweaking gameplay related settings in comparison to other games (whether it's made to exploit or rather to benefit of particular settings).

I use to read Skrewy's posts, take out the useless part and keep on reading. Neverthless, at times he is so freaking immature and/or behaving just like your average rough little troll that he gets on my nerves aswell.

Smartphones also come with a big fucking price and seem to get outdated very quickly. My phone cost me $15 and I have no monthly contract and pay when I want, usually $25 every 2-3 months. I looked into it and for the same service, it's $40 a month with a contract.

To each their own.

So true. My first mobile phone was a Siemens A50. Lovely ergonomics, it was much more hand-fitting than most modern smartphones. Though and nicely built aswell. My 2009 crappy nokia 62xx series instead it's quite buggy and it's just not decently built at all.

Honor Claims / Re: Honor Request
« on: Sunday, April 15, 2012, 16:38:15 PM »
Hello All,

i have a honor request, have been playing this game from version 2.3 played allot with Valkondo. My honor was like 73 or something. I always played as drouble or littledevill, but I cant login anyway. I cant remember, maybe it had a clan or something. I always registered to aaotracker.com but that site is not available anymore.

Greetings,
drouble.

Your AAOtracker account is still valid, you just need to login at www.Battletracker.com. If you don't remember the password, go for a password reminder, and if you eventually need further help (e.g. because you can't use the mail address you registered that account with) you will have to ask for support on Battletracker for that matter.

Is this your account?

http://battletracker.com/playerstats/aao/815172/drouble/

Or either one of those?

Way too much indeed.

P.s. are you wA'tNc in that pic? Noticed the official Beta icon, i thought it wasn't working anymore after the official auth. shutdown.

Edit: yeah i knew about that but i thought it was of a different colour.

General Chat / Re: Problem with Connection HELP!
« on: Saturday, April 14, 2012, 21:23:38 PM »
You get removed from server because you stop answering server queries. Any firewall maybe blocking or something?

Common kick. Player looses the connection, server waits a little while and then decides that the game client is actually no more replying. If i am correct Punkbuster server timings for communication routines can be customized by the server admins so i guess those kick works in a slight different way for each server (unless you use a default timing).

It sounds like you're simply disconnecting from the game/server.

Yeppers. Check your connection, stop every process that can suck up any amount of bandwidth, and if you share that connection with other family members and/or people you live with, check back and forth to be sure that someone else isn't taking a toll on the line because he's/she's downloading his latest fav. sitcom episode.

Also check out your modem, verify if it's overheating and if it works properly even on full load (cheaper modem/router models have such shortcomings). Yesterday i threw out a dirty cheap Intelli-something modem my roomates were using since a couple months, the wifi net was helding but the overall quality was poor, decaying once on load and poor maximum speed (which it wasn't capable to keep anyway). Replaced with a D-Link 2740b i had sitting around (kinda lol, i was going to sell it in fact), definatly a smoother experience by far.

Haha, is that thing any good? Haven't seen the specs, but it does look like it won't make anything better :P.

I also don't like USB cards, which has a lower speed transfer, unless you gonna use it in a laptop!
Keep Cool

USB3 allows for a theoretical maximum bandwidth of 400mb/s, i can hardly figure how you can saturate that bandwidth.

That little thing is truly compact, cute indeed.

So to make the text back into a map or a .aao file do I just coppy all the text then past it back in to edd?
If so its not working?

Possessed used the AARE tool made by Eliz to convert his custom maps, the tool is actually very reliable and unless you choose to use game material that was published in later version after 2.5, you shouldn't have huge issues.

Not sure if mAAp has this or not. But could one of are talented map peeps make Steamroller?  Was one my fav maps on 2.8 but was never really played cause it was hard on some computers but with 2.5 graphics everyone should be able to play it. Would it be to much work and a waste of time I hope not.

Thanks to Eliz work we have the to chance of a version of the map completely ported, but you will need the related packages to be able to play the map. (almost all of the buildings are static meshes actors i believe).

p.s. by "related" i mean all of the packages the map makes use of (and note that it's made almost entirely of packages published along with version newer than 2.5).

I remember one crappy 2.1 from creative which are the standards for (low-mid bidget of 50€) which are the standards as 2x6w + 17w subwoofer if I'm not mistaking. Here in my little full of things bedroom, they aren't anything impressive. But when I used them in a huge empty room full of metal and glass on the sides damnnnnnnn.

That crap sounded like I had a million dollars system for real lol, 17 w never sounded so much powerfull with all the probably 30 huge thin glasses shaking all over the place. All I could say is wtf, it was so damn loud. (the fidelity was million of years away, but it sounded powerful, and that makes me a happy customer ;D).

I don't get why people need to blow things apart using audio equipment. Aside from blowing the equip itself which anyway depends on your spending capability. Personally i almost never use standalone speakers but i prefer headphones (it's a totally different approach of course).

A little history for your entertainment (please note that the last card in the video being a Creative its not meant to make any point):

mAAp Project / Re: 2.5 Map made with 2.8 Editor
« on: Saturday, April 14, 2012, 05:02:16 AM »
I'll read/watch some AA Editor tuts, because I'm far from editor's full potential. maybe one day I'll come here and release a decent map, maybe... ::)

I made this map copying & renaming the 2.8.5 packages to match with 2.5 packs (UTPT to browse 2.5 files and find the correct package for each resource) and then converted the map with Eliz 2.8.5 converter.

for those who do not know, only packages with "AA2" in its name should be used for a 2.5 map, "AAO" packs won't exist in 2.5.

-----
did you guys asked other mappers to make/try something for 2.5?
what about a map contest lol ?(not now i know..)

Nice approach, btw there's some newer material in the AA2 packages too, but if you stick to basic materials you don't really have to worry. That's a small map too so you also have a very small amount of materials being used. If you want a tip, you can use PlayerBlock collisions to shape they way you want something to be walked on/around, e.g. a small object laying on the floor as much as a chair or a table (you can even ease the collision by avoiding chances of getting stuck, or either just making it easier to walk on).

I think it's a totally reasonable thing to ask. Unless you used to play on the same side of the same map for ages, which honestly i can't describe as anything else than deathly boring.

I am trying to convert a map I did for 2.8 and cant find -
" StaticMesh'M_AAO_Equipment.Plastic_Containers.Large_plastic_bottle " in M or the M2.
What do you think?

I've taken a look aswell, it seems to be a 2.8 asset, not available in 2.5 (until we decide to port 2.8 assets to 2.5 as a whole).

Most or likely all of the *_AAO assets belong to game versions published after 2.5.
