The problem is most likely:
a) Disk drive related
---> Insert a random CD
b) Flash drive related (you had a flashdrive and didn't remove it safely)
---> Connect the flash drive again and remove it safely this time (it might be specific to a USB port, I don't know).
You say you don't have a flash drive, but maybe someone still used on on your computer earlier? In any case, I'm sure you'd be able to find someone to borrow you a flash drive.
If you still have a CD/DVD drive try inserting a random disk and playing that way.

I thought I already answered the 2nd part. Yes, you just do it on battletracker.
Are you sure you're running the game in full screen mode? Usually it doesn't let you change gamma-brightness and so on when you're in windowed mode and you might not even notice that. Try Alt+Enter to enter/escape full screen mode and see if you can change the settings afterwards.
Another thing you can try is to open Assist as an administrator and see if anything changes.

I might be wrong here, but I think you need to register your server on battletracker and therefore would need to register each time your IP changes.

It is very easy to make such a private board in the forums. It is probably more difficult to get people to actually check it.
Also, the loading screens already sometimes point to this website:

The other ideas seem good, I just don't know how easy they are to implement.
For example, the server messages and messages of the day can be changed by the admins and I'm not sure if there's a way to force a specific message to stay.

You're not banned. You just can't play with a username with such characters.
Since we don't control battletracker, there is unfortunately nothing we can do about it. Even an admin had to wait 24 hours once...

It is shown to me in different charset than it is used in server, I guess charsets have been mixed up in textedit program I've used. But still you got the point.I think it's more likely that the site here doesn't properly support some symbols. I have seen it time and time again, unfortunately.
