General Chat / Re: AA is currently pathetic

Killa, as usual, I agree with you. But on the other hand, AA's current state isn't like what it used to be. Something's gotta be done or AA will continue the decline it's been doing.
AA's problem isn't really the game itself, but the players. You can't change who plays the game. The same maps are played, the same bugs are exploited, and the same shit continuously happens not because that's all the game has to offer, but because that's what the players want. Of course it's not like it used to be, the game only appeals to the old hardcore AA 2 fans. AA 2 has next to no appeal to newcomers anymore so I think that catering to the already existent fanbase is about all that can be done.

Honestly, moving to another game would be easier and better than these fixes. AA 2 is simply outdated. Edit the usual maps and you'll lose even more players. Forcing players to play certain maps would be an even bigger disaster. I know I would be pissed if the game I played limited what I could play for no reason at all. There isn't going to be some big resurrection of AA2, most people have moved on to newer games. Those that are still playing AA aren't playing it for the new and exciting stuff, they're playing it because it's the same old AA they loved the play. Change that and you're left with very little users.

It's not like it gives you any actual advantage...

When did this topic become a PC pissing contest? Jonny was simply stating that he could run 2.8.5 on a mac and what hardware it had.

Which isn't saying much for AA. Probably dual-core or better would work fine.
Does AA even use 2 cores? I thought it only used 1....

I think keeping the posts on progress private is the perfect way to keep the community up to date!

That was sarcastic by the way.

Must be nice to have that much cash to blow on a computer.
I'm pretty sure he's joking...

Common sense would also say to take a map that's been balanced perfectly for years and bring it up to modern graphics like I did with Pipeline. It's still the same map, just has new tactics and more realism but everybody already knows the layout.
This is also a great point. Balancing is probably the hardest thing to do for a map.

In my opinion you will reach higher with an original design of the map.
Yeah you'd think but that's not really the case. In reality you have to make a gimmicky map like poolday to get people to play it.

Also, an unrelated note; if moving to 2.8 does happen, I think it would be a shame to do it without getting in touch with Darky over at DRAAT to setup a custom tracker and account system that is harder to abuse and easier to maintain.
I'm not sure that would be a good idea. He was never around even when 2.5 and Draat were still relevant. Crunk basically ran that site.

Thanks Jason. Always shooting for more.

I think ill hold off on the SSD.

I did some reading and in agreeance with many comments made i like this combo

Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz
Radeon HD 7950 3GB

I was looking at the Gigabyte Radeon.
The Gigabyte Windforce one? I have that GPU, although I think the current ones being sold are an upgrade from mine with a locked core voltage. Must be because I only paid $300 for mine and it's now $310. The locked core voltage isn't a big deal unless you plan on heavily overclocking the GPU.

Anyways, the card is quieter and cooler than any card I've ever had. Also comes with 3 games (Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, and FC3: Blood Dragon. $135 worth of games.

Save the $$ on the SSD unless you go Intel or Samsung 840 PRO. The Crucial M4's are getting pretty old now and have easily 1/4 the write speed of the Samsungs.

I have no comments on Intel CPU's and modern GPU's.
Looking further into it, you're right. I was just recalling stuff from the last time I was looking into getting one. I don't stay up to date on SSDs like I do on CPUs and GPUs.

Honestly... i might just go balls deep and get both the Ti and the solid state. Yolo
I'd definitely suggest a 7950 over a 660Ti. It's the same price, has a bigger memory bandwidth, more memory, and outperforms the 660Ti in most game benchmarks.

The Crucial M4 is suggested a lot. I think it's $130 for a 128gb one. Intel makes some good SSDs as well. But the GPU should come first, it's the most important component when it comes to gaming so if an SSD is going to keep you at a GTX 660, you should go without it and get a better GPU.

Bump down the i7 and get a better GPU. Games are way more dependent on the GPU and the i5 3570K easily maxes any game on the market. It'd be stupid to buy a 3770K while settling for a measly GTX 660. Go for at least a 660Ti, or 7950 (which is the better performing card).
Not to mention Nvidia is currently releasing their 7xx GPUs so I'd hold off for a bit to see how it will change prices.
