General Chat / Re: New User - Basic Questions
« on: Wednesday, August 01, 2012, 18:09:58 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm interested in playing but have a few questions.

1 - Do I have to download the games files as well as 2.5Assist, or does 2.5Assist have them?
2 - I currently am a Mac user. If I download the Mac version, can I only play other Mac players, or can I play other platforms?
3 - If I do need to download game files, are there links anywhere?

Thanks.

1 - You can download the Assist, and then download the game files using the Assist itself.
2 - if your Mac runs on an Intel processor, you can use bootcamp and play the game on windows aswell (if you have a windows install aswell). However you can play against everyone, no matter if he's running on a pc or on a Mac.
3 - use the Assist, or pick this download from Softpedia http://games.softpedia.com/get/Freeware-Games/Americas-Army.shtml

mAAp Project / Re: Map Testers Wanted

Your map looks interesting actually, looking forward to play it.

Only interesting one is ARMA2. That's the downside to public editors though, EVERYBODY has it and the community for custom maps & mods is HUGE. How can you compete when you're a noob? But with AA, you can count the modders & mappers on 2 hands.

Is competing the point? Some impressive mods were born from not one but a collection of mods made by different players (look at some mods made for Half Life or even the Stalker series, some for Shadow of Chernobyl even take back the original gameplay from the alpha version of the game - lets say, going back to the roots).

Im still in school for this stuff. So im no expert, but isn't c++ only real plus side that its closer to the hardware. Java is pretty much the same thing except it runs through the java platform, as well as better cross platform from what i have read.

correct me plz if im wrong here.

It's just a virtual machine, the jvm so as far as you have the right jvm for the os you need to run it on...

cool beans, as ginger correctly says:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10533903/is-obfuscated-c-sharp-or-java-easier-to-decompile-than-c-because-of-stack-machin

Anyway, Jonnym used to release the Assist source, so...

I'd be wondering if it's part of the compass. I think the edges bend down like that.

Yep, either way it looks like a part of the interface.

It's a part of the message box stroke, it's green. Punkbuster screenshot might sometimes be corrupted or missing parts of the actual screenshot.

At a certain time, and all together they jump on the server and start playing. Now their names...Mr. Corleone, Jonny Stecchino and Frank Costello. Yep, not kidding. Most likely the 3 guys we know of.

Accounts created on 22/07 (when the older ones were banned).

Yes but I still need a home :(

There still is a bunch of good people keeping up a couple clans, if you really need to play with a clan tag. South African Special Forces (SASF) are among them.

I personally can play without a clan, but that adds fun to the gameplay and you can draw much better tactics, talk on teamspeak, etc.

Didn't know there were walls on bridge lol..

Let's say they can shoot and kill so easily from the defense tower to the assault tower without hassle. Like there was no fog. I also noticed a couple of onscreen server messages right now.
