Interesting. I could still argue that our guys in AA just forgot to pack their snow parkas :)

We could also talk about players cheating the system's texture settings to make enemy more visible by blurring the camo patterns or their surroundings to enable a contrast.

Also, it's not like camo actually ever played a role in AA. The jittery non-fluid movement animations give you away much sooner than the lack of realism in the camo.

I researched all I could and couldn't find anything other than the standard ACU for US Army. For the Marines, it's totally different, they got MARPAT which has something like half a dozen different varieties.

I could be wrong but I believe the "attachments" such as hats, glasses and other things are randomized by the mod and assigned on round start.

We had a server full (22 players) but there was too much ragequitting in my opinion. People didn't stay more than 10 minutes or after they got killed twice without getting a kill.

Welcome to AA gameplay.

News / Re: AA2 Development roadmap
« on: Wednesday, March 26, 2014, 02:12:33 AM »
Sure, a complete game is possible. It's been done many times. There's one on kickstarter (or it was) that aims to be a real small-scale combat simulator.

The problem is; no matter how hard you try, you will never reproduce America's Army on any engine other than UE2 and with any code other than the code the devs used. Even upgrading the UE2 engine up a few builds caused chaos back in the day with how mechanics were handled. We all see what happened when AA3 was released. So, anyone could create a new game, it just wouldn't be AA.

As far as kickstarter and retaining the AA code/engine, you then have the curious legal question of what happens when funds are sourced to pay people for their time/knowledge in editing code on a game for which they have no permission.

It's been talked about before but I'll distill it for you;

The US Army has 1 type of camo, for budgetary reasons:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_Combat_Uniform

All that was done is the camo was updated in-game to the version used in 2.8.5, which is more modern. The death uniform is an unavoidable bug where the original camo overrides the mod which forces the updated camo.

We had a promising lead that could have turned into something much larger but it has died. What you see now is what you get. Unless, ELiZ and/or some other very talented coders come along to port more features or build a new version by reverse engineering.

AA Support / Re: AA2.5 faster on old xp machine than Win 8?
« on: Monday, March 17, 2014, 17:51:52 PM »
The new laptop has an AMD dual core running at 1.3GHz. The old one has an Intel single core running at 1.6GHz.

Even though the AMD is newer and likely more efficient, the Intel probably runs faster in single-threaded applications. That's where you're seeing the difference.

The P4 around 2.8GHz should do better than the two laptops. The FX5200 is questionable though. I used to play on one ages ago and you'd do real good if you could update that to a 6000 series or 7000 series (PCI-E).

Still, you've put in a fair bit of work to disable this feature and the people that are still using it are blatantly exploiting.

i confirm this.
no idea how he does it... he only says: cause i can

Sounds like it's time to permanently ban for blatant exploitation of the system.

Nice job!

The main page at aao25.com still says 8.06 instead of 8.09, though.

It's just raw text. It doesn't pull the information from anywhere. IMO, it should be removed until it pulls the information directly from Assist.

Sure you can run those servers, they just won't be tracked.

No issues or difficulties with Low Ping Servers, you just have to configure it how you want.
