It is a glitch, which is why the devs took it out with later version of AA2.

Hmm i don't think the animation is as fast as on AA2. Overall the animations are more "fluid" than AA3, and to be honest i haven't seen so many people trying that kind of thing, you can just move and cover faster instead of going prone (imho).
