Game freezes
« on: Wednesday, March 28, 2012, 16:50:42 PM »
Hello!

When I start to play AA 2.5 I can play about 20 minutes and after that the game freezes and the sounds start to loop. I cant go to desktop or start task manager so I have to restart my computer. I have tried to reinstall all of my drivers and update them, I have tried to run it as an administratror and run it in compatibility mode for win xp. I have also tried to reinstalling AA 2.5 and AA 2.5 assist but after 20 minutes it freezes again. And only game that I have this problem with is AA 2.5.

My specs :
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
Operation System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro

It could be possible a part of your computer is overheating. You'll have to wait for someone else who knows more to suggest what to do, this isn't my area of expertise :D

Update DirectX:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
Update your graphics card driver:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-296.10-whql-driver.html

What other games do you play that don't cause crashing?

Give ATI Tool a try, "Scan For Artifacts", run it for an hour and see what happens. If all is good there, run Prime95 overnight on Blend Stress Test and see if it comes back with errors.

Sound looping and a complete freeze can be bad overclock settings, overheating or faulty memory. I don't think it's a GPU issue but still try everything above. Let us know.

I recommend what Spanky said...

Test your ramm overnight to see if there's any error.

Update the drivers of your hardware specially (graphic card; sound card; chipset).

Do a test like Spanky said, charge the GPU at 100% for a few time and check the temperatures, if the temperatures are really bad, I recommend you open your PC and start cleaning the fans, specially the GPU FAN, use a "compressed air-can" to clean them, but remember to disconnect them first from the hardware, because spinning fans produce electrycity, and if they spin too fast they could damage some components...

Run programs to fix errors on ur PC. I Recommend Registry Mechanic for registry based errors, and Ashampoo Winoptimizer for general cleaning and error fixing.

Check if your power supply is in good conditions, and if it's enough 4 all your hardware.

If you still get freezes, go into the BIOS and load default settings and try again. If you have any kind of app to overclock ON, make all go back into normal clocks and try AA...

ps: If nothing works, all I could recommend is probably a fresh system reinstall.
Keep Cool

use a "compressed air-can" to clean them

I never recommend these. They're not just air but mixed propellants and other shit kids huff to get high. Just use an air compressor or hand pump if you can. You can buy cheap hand pumps for like $5-$10 and you'll get more compressed air out of them than the equivalent spent on can-o-air.

Whatever you do, please do it outside, breathing in that dust isn't good.

some times my game freezes too, and i have to kill it with task manager, but in case i dont think its a hardware failure, its more something with windows.
try cleaning windows registry and such things.

i recommend:
click in the names to download.

CCleaner - to Clean crappy / useless files in your computer
CC Enhancer, an addon for CCleaner add more things to be cleaned.
MV RegClean - to Clean Windows registry
MV RegCompact - to Defrag and Compact Windows Registry
UltraDefrag - to defragment an optimize your HD. rly good. defrags the PageFile.
Advanced SytemCare - find the PRO version :D. have all the tools above and a lot more, but theres no perfect program, so use with the ones above.

Mainly just starcraft 2

I havent overclocked anything so we can rule that out.

I'll update the results of stress tests when I get them.

EDIT: i had prime runnin for 10 hours and 0 errors
EDIT2: Max GPU temperature was at 77 C in an hour

It feels like these two have helped, but not able to remove the problem

Oh you're getting a blue screen? Usually that is a driver issue, but it can also be a hardware issue.

Hmmm. Grab HDTune and run a full error scan on your hard drive. Also see if there's anything red or yellow in the Health tab.

In before Jonny or another Linux fanboy posts :)

Windows doesn't degrade over time by itself. All issues are either user or hardware-caused. 3rd party drivers and stuff make things more complicated. I had an issue where I couldn't use my Logitech webcam, it just showed a grey screen. Uninstalled and re-installed the software, performed wipes that was recommended by Logitech but what fixed it, a re-install. Even after everything is re-installed, it still works.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it working again. At least you don't have hardware issues :)
